Dad and Princess Time.
Once and awhile Anya needed some Dad and Princess time. When she was growing up there was a lot of time with Dad, but as she got older the time with him diminished and now it was almost nonexistent. Dad had a company to run along with a wife and a newborn son to deal with. She had school, a team and a boyfriend and they both had more family members to deal with. Before it was just the two of them for the majority of the time and it was them against the world. Now the team had gotten bigger and it meant less time with just the two of them.

Friday afternoon saw her stopping by the company to ambush him in his office. He had left for work by the time she got home from the Avengers mansion and Steve. Mom had said that he went in to sign paperwork Pepper had been nagging him about. Though Anya suspected it has something to do with Nick being fussy.

She knocked on the door and stuck her head in.

"That's my baby girl." Tony says, wrapping his arms around Anya in short order. He hugs her, probably longer than she's used to, as being with Eddie has reminded him how much older he's gotten.

Once upon a time, a newborn was a challenge that Tony could have worked through with sheer force of will. Now, it took sheer will, at least eight hours of sleep and two cups of coffee to keep up with his son.

And then there was slightly-grumpy-from-getting-up-all-night wife to deal with, too. Mood affects Team-Ups...and Tony did love his Team-Ups.

"How are things in The City That Stole My Daughter?" Tony asks.

Anya returned the hug because Dad Hugs were the best. No matter how old she got, she would always love Dad Hugs.

"Things are good. Quiet. Which means we're due for some trouble soon."

She looked around the office. The man would never change the decor. It was almost the same as she remembered it from her childhood. She had spent many hours in here after school while he worked and Mom was out of town.

"I was wondering if you wanted to grab some lunch or something." Anya couldn't just come out and say she needed time with Dad.

"Well, I really have to finish signing these papers or I think Pepper will make good on her threat and finally kill me. Sadly, I think your mother will understand and help her hide the body.

But...what if we order in? I have something I need to tell you, anyway, Anya. I want you to be the first to know." Tony says.

"Knowing Mom? Yeah, she would understand and help Pepper. Ordering in is fine, but what disturbs me is this thing you need to tell me. You know I don't like surprises and neither does Mom."

"Well, it's not a surprise to your mother, because I told her already. I told her during the Charity Ball last month." Tony says, taking a deep breath.

"Your life, and Eddie's birth, have made me rethink a lot of things, Anya. There were a lot of times I wasn't there for you because I was out punching some bad guy in the face. You turned out pretty good, despite all of my best attempts otherwise." Tony jokes, smiling at his daughter.

"But now, I see that you, Misha and Justin are carrying on where Rhodey and I left off. Rhodhey hasn't suited up in years and I think he has about four or five less gray hairs for it. Those really count if you know Rhodey like I do." Tony says.

"What I'm saying, Anya, is that while the rodeo should still go on...it's time for this cowboy to hang up his hat and settle down.

Iron Man is done, Anya. Or, /my/ time as Iron Man is done." Tony says.

"Now, do you want Chinese or Italin food?"

Of all of the things he could have told her, this was the least surprising. Though a small part of her did feel a little disappointed that it wasn't one of Dad's out of the blue earth shattering announcements. There had been plenty of them throughout the years.

"Of all the things you have ever announced, this is the least surprising." She smiled and kissed his cheek. "It's about time and I'm glad you are fully retiring. You need to start taking it easy because you're not getting any younger and Mom and Nick need you around."

"And for the record, Dad, I was always proud that you were out there kicking butt. My Dad was Iron Man. I couldn't ask for more." A pause. "Okay, well maybe Captain America," she teased.

"Ouch, honey. I was really feeling the love there until the Captain America comment came up. Cap looked up to me, and not just because I was taller than him when I put the armor on." Tony says.

"Cap was my wingman once when we went out to a bar. Of course, Sharon walked in ten seconds later and Steve left me hanging, but I understood. I took two for the team." Tony says.

"Now, there was a point to me telling you that, but I lost it among your total indifference to my announcement. Now, how about you tell your old man something that's going to shock him to the core.

Tell me that you came to say you need me to have all your stuff moved out of Boston ASAP because you're moving back home." Tony says, waiting for his daughter to tell him exactly that.

"As great as Uncle Steve is, I'm really glad you're my dad. I would have had non-stop lectures otherwise. He gave me a four hour lecture about sex. FOUR hours. I tried to tell him that you and Mom took care of The Talk, but he wouldn't have any of it."

She had to laugh at the Boston thing. Here she thought she was the one with separation issues. Now she found out it was him. "You know full well that I'm not leaving Boston. I have school and my team. I can just leave them."

Anya laughed. "I won't be there forever. I have another two and a half years of school left and then I'll come back home to New York. I promise."

"Chinese," she said answering his question about food. "As long as you get Peking Ravioli for me."

She fell into one of the chair directly in front of his desk. "How are you? How are you and Mom doing?" She saw her parents on a daily basis since coming home for winter break, but she had to ask.

Tony sighs. He'd tried, as usual.

"Two and half years and not another day; I'm holding you to that, sweetheart." Tony says. "And, of course, the Peking Ravioli. You've loved that stuff since the first time I fed it to you."

Tony laughs and calls Tiffany with their order. Tiffany lets him know that she'll take care of it.

"Mom and I are good. We're both getting back into the routine of dealing with a baby. Eddie is challenging us both. He's so smart and inquisitive for one so little. A lot like someone else I know..." he says, grinning at Anya.

"I think your mother is cursing her spy days, though. She can wake from a sound sleep at the drop of a hat. And you know me...if it's World War III out, I require a cannonball wake-up along with a marching band to get out of bed at times." Tony says.

Anya smiled. It was good to hear that Mom and Dad were doing okay. Not that Dad would tell her if they weren't. She had so many concerns when they got back together and for once she was glad to be proven wrong.

"I'm glad," she said. "I worry about you two."

"Oh I know how deeply you can sleep. I used to crawl into bed with you in the middle of the night when I was little and you wouldn't even so much as stir."

"How's my company doing?"

"Your company is doing just fine with Pepper at the reigns. That woman is a lifesaver, literally. One of these days, I really am going to offer her a real vacation and not just a working one." Tony smiles.

"Justin is doing a lot of good work in R&D and there are government contracts coming up that Stark Inc. has the inside track on. I'm going to have to meet with the President and the Secretary of Defense again. You know how those things go.

Not to mention we've got political candidates hitting us up for contributions for next year already. So, the plate is getting full, but I'm going to ease my way back into working here. Pepper is scheduling everything." he says, pausing for a moment before he speaks again.

"I heard that Steve is back." Tony says. "Is that true?"

Anya nodded as he told her about the company. Just because she was living in Boston didn't mean she was out of the loop of going ons at Stark. She made it a point to keep on top of stuff and talked to Pepper frequently.

"When you get back you should make Pepper take some time off. Give her time to get to know Justin and Harvey."

"He is. Why do you think I haven't been coming home at night? I've been staying with him at the mansion."

"You're right. She deserves a chance to know both of her sons without work being in the way. I'm going to do that today, give her some time off." Tony says.

"Does Steve know about your friend, the actor? I forget his name. You might want to make sure the guy understands that you're off the market and that he's going to have to move on, Anya. If you don't want to, I'd be happy to tell him for you.

And, I'm glad Steve is back, if for no other reason than it seems like you're back to your old self." Tony smiles.

"Good. She deserves it and I'm sure Mom will appreciate a break as well." Starks were a lot to put up with and Anya knew her mother was probably looking for some Stark-free time. Anya was amazed her father hadn't been on the receiving end of a bullet yet.

"I told Steve about Austin," she said. "And how we were only friends. Austin knows Steve is back and him and I are still friends." Anya made a mental note to give Austin a call.

"Yeah. He's been through a lot so right now it's a little rough. I hope he'll keep going to Doc Samson. His nightmares are really bad right now."

"What does your mother need a break for? I daresay she loves having Eddie and me at home to keep her on her toes. She also gets all the coffee and chocolate she wants. Eddie and I watch her consume it with utter fascination." Tony smiles.

One of the gophers knocks on the door with their food just then, bringing in the Peking Ravioli.

"I'm sure your mother and brother would love it if you stopped by to hang out with them while I'm working. I think Eddie is very fond of you." Tony smiles.

"It's amazing that you haven't been shot yet," Anya said dryly. "Do you think you could see if you could help Steve with his cybernetic arm? I know the medical division has done research into artificial skin and it's really cold laying against that thing. He's also having some control problems with it." Cue puppy dog eyes.

His children and the puppy dog eyes. Anya did it all the time as a baby. Stephanie used it on him the other day while they were working on her car.

And Eddie used them /at least/ twice a day, once on him and once on Tasha. He had little defense.

"I suppose I could find some time to work on it. Of course, I'll need to see the arm for myself, with Steve attached to it, that is. Bring him by tomorrow and I'll get some preliminary specs. We'll see what we're working with before we go any further." Tony says, handing her the Peking Ravioli.

"Did the people who stitched him up do a decent job with it or was it rush-job?" Tony says, knowing a little something about replacement body parts.

"It was a war zone, Daddy. It's advanced tech, but it was a rush job." She hugged him. "Thank you, Daddy." She looked up at him and smiled. "Besides, look as it as bonding time with your future son-in-law."

"And /this/ part of the conversation is over, sweetie. Let's eat." Tony says, wanting to avoid the topic of Steve joining the family for another, say, thirty years or so.

"So, how are things with the team?" Tony asks, not sure if he's covered this already. Even if he has, this is preferable to talking about future sons-in-law.

Anya chuckled and kissed his cheek. "You're cute when you're in denial," she said and released him. "I am going to marry Steve one day so you better start getting used to the idea."

"Quiet. It's been nice and quiet for the past few weeks and we're still getting used to each other." There was a slight pause. "We got two new members. I told you, right?"

For the very briefest of moments, Tony's heart stops beating. Literally.

"Honey, take pity on your father. My hearing isn't so good, so when you say 'the team if full of good worthwhile people', I accidentally hear it as 'there's a member of the Hammer family, your lifelong enemies on the team'." Tony says.

"If you say that the other one is a Stane, Anya, you'll need to call an ambulance." Tony says.

"And yes, I'm a serious as a heart-attack about that." he says, his choice of words not at all facetious.
