Touching Base
Now that the craziness of the holidays were over and they had helped save a world, Anya had some time to catch up on personal business. When she wanted to find someone it was just a matter of a few minutes at a computer and she could find almost anyone on the planet. The object of her search was one Mr. Austin Cain.

Anya sent him a Christmas gift during the holidays, but she wanted to talk to him. She put her new suit on, it needed a test flight anyway, and took off. A short while later she landed not far from the location where his film was shooting. She found an out of way spot and removed her armor. Suitcase in hand she approached the set.

Getting on site wasn't a problem. She just had to say who she was and who she was here to see. She smiled as she watched them film the current scene. When they were done she would get a chance to talk to him.

"Cut!" the director yells, and everyone on set of A Time For Violence takes a moment to compose themselves. Austin's head is not really in the game right now, and everyone on set can tell. The Russian winter is cold, but Austin can barely feel it. His mind is a million miles away right now.

"Austin, buddy, are you all right?" Michael Bay asks. "I need you right now, okay? I know you and Shia aren't getting along, but I need you two to be professional about this." he says.

"Sorry, Michael. Look, can we break for a bit. I just need to relax for a few minutes and then I'll come back and nail this whole thing from top to bottom. Half an hour." Austin pleads.

"Thirty minutes, Austin, and I'm gonna hold you to that." Michael says. He turns to the rest of the cast and crew and tells them to break for thirty minutes. Austin turns to go to his trailer and one of the gophers on set comes up to him.

"Uh, Mr. Caine, Anya Stark is here to see you." he says, hoping that he's not about to become the target of an onset chewing by Austin Caine, like another former assistant was a few days ago.

"Oh, where is she?" he asks. The gopher points with his free hand. Austin notes that he's reading OK! Magazine. The cover story, of course, has a picture of him and Anya with a rip down the middle and the title Splitsville!

Austin just shakes his head and goes over to see Anya.

"Hey, didn't expect to see you here." Austin says, forcing a smile onto his face. He keeps his hands in his pockets so that he's not tempted to do something stupid.

"How is Steve doing?" he asks, deciding to get the elephant in the room out of the way.

"I'm like a bad penny. I keep turning up when least expected," she said with a smile and hugged him. They were still friends and Anya greeted friends with hugs.

Anya ignored the Russians that were standing in as extras on the set. They were all bowing and the last thing she wanted to do was cause a fuss.

"He's recovering and the outlook looks good. Thank you for asking."

She looked around and noticed the stares and the bowing. "Is there somewhere a little more private where we could talk?"

"Don't say that." Austin chides. Austin returns the hug gently, realizing he'd missed it a lot more than he thought.

"Yeah, my trailer is over here." Austin says, nodding towards the left. He hadn't noticed it before, but when he sees the bowing, he remembers that Anya is a princess.

Some days, he forgets just how far he's come from a small town in the heart of Texas to be here.

He leads Anya to his trailer and closes the door.

"Can I get you a soda or anything?" he asks.

Austin gets Anya a soda, her favorite, as it's now his favorite, too. She'd gotten him hooked on lots of things, like Indian food. He was going to drive the catering guys crazy one of these days asking for Peking Ravioli all the time.

"Yeah, I was really surprised. I told you that you didn't have to get me anything, Miss Stark. Of course, I should have known you'd 'forget' I said that." Austin smiles.

"What brings you to Russia? Everything okay back home?" he asks.

	"You," she said and sipped her soda. "I came to see you. I was going to call, but I need to do a test flight with the new armor." She looked down at the soda can in her hand. "You have nothing to apologize for, Anya. The man you love came back to you." Austin says.

"If you hadn't gone to jump into his arms, I would have been more worried." he says, once again forcing a smile onto his face. In his heart of hearts, Austin didn't bear Steve Barton any ill will of any kind.

Still, he'd managed to fall for Anya in such a short time that it bit at Austin deeply that they never had a chance to see where it lead. Austin was so upset over everything that he'd broken down on New Year's Eve and called his mother for the first time in years for solace. He'd quickly come to his senses and ended the call, but that hadn't stopped her from calling him every day now.

"We both knew that Steve was comin' back. I...let myself get carried away in my head so it was my fault if I got hurt. Besides, you saved my life and you did more than any friend ever needs to for another friend. I'm just glad that you're happy." he says.

"You are happy, right?" Austin asks.

"You won't, Red. I just think we might not see each other for awhile. Once I finish up here, I'm headed to Chicago to film Sudden Justice II." Austin says, taking a sip of his soda.

"We're still working out the permissions and payments with the city, but it looks like it's going to happen. After that, I've got some major free time comin' up. Might head down to Hawaii and do some surfin'." Austin says, though he probably won't do that.

"I'd really like to get my bike fixed up and ride cross-country, though. Check out some bike shows like I used to do when I was a kid." he says.

Anya frowned. She didn't like the thought of not seeing him for awhile. She had come to enjoy his company and she still wanted to spend time with him even though Steve was back.

"Tahti is wonderful," she said. "If you ever want to go there let me know. We have a house there and you are welcome to use it."

"Oh? You know, if you bring it by while you're shooting I can work on it for you. It will be fixed by the time you're done."

	"Tahiti sounds pretty good. You know how I am with the water." Austin says. "Actually, I found this new Harley Davidson I wanted. 2010 Night Rod Series. "Nothing that can punched out by Iron Girl, sadly." Austin says with rueful chuckle.

"Shia LeBouf and I are in this move together...along with my ex-girlfriend, Sarah. Sarah and Shia are dating now and Sarah and I parted on bad terms. But she called me up after I left New York, just a few day after the Charity Ball and we've been talking a little bit." Austin says.

"I'm sure you can guess how her boyfriend took that. There was a slight incident last week, so he and I try to film at different times unless necessary.

Did I mention he and I play long-lost brothers on opposite sides of the law who are in love with the same girl in this movie?" Austin asks.

"Welcome to my life."

"No, you can't, because we'll both end up in prison and my career will be ruined. Besides, it would upset Sarah and there's only a week or two of filming left." he says.

"I'll deal with it and then move on. Sarah's in Sudden Justice II, so at least I won't have to deal with her boyfriend. We've agreed to be friends, she and I, so...yeah. Just taking it day by day." he says.

"You haven't done any appreciable length of time in jail, Miss Stark. It's a lot different when you get to know the place." Austin says, remembering his own stint in lock-up.

"I don't know that we'll ever get back together. We broke up when she found out about my old life. It clashed with her upbringin' and stuff." he tells her.

"I'll settle for friends, though. Hollywood's got enough on the rumor mill without bein' accused of tryin' to steal someone else's girl." he grins.
