Kikuya maintained her composure though the idea of Howaito dē made her skin crawl a bit. She was giving gifts to Hajime-sama out of love, not out of need for reciprocity. But, Amiko, being of a more contemporary generation, had brought it up and Kikuya felt honor-bound to explain.
"March 14th is Howaito dē, White Day. It is the day upon which gentlemen who receive gifts--honmei choco or giri choco such as what Amiko has provided to you present gifts to the girls who were kind to them this day."
She lowered her eyes.
"But you are not obligated to do anything for me, Hajime-sama. Serving you is a daily gift."
If one was watching carefully one might notice a slight sag in Kikuya's shoulders as she bowed her head in respect.
