Bad Romance (Matt)
Shelly was reasonably certain Matt didn't do Valentine's Day. He didn't seem the type and while that was a bit of a downer it didn't mean that she wasn't going to somehow get to spend the evening with him. To that end she had casually invited him out for some food and then a movie, careful to make absolutely no mention of Valentine's Day in conjunction with things. She'd already put her big foot in her mouth with talking about feelings and that sort of thing so screwing up and acting like Valentine's Day was important was something the good doctor was trying to avoid.

...she bought herself a box of chocolates and stashed it in her desk drawer in anticipation of the day being ignored anyway. Nothing to see here, move along.

So instead of Valentine's Day, Shelly had made plans to meet up with Matt at Emperess, the Chinese place around the corner from his place. She did, however, dress up a little for the occasion. When else would she get a chance to wear her killer zebra heels?

Still clutching his hand she pulled him into the street and then pushed him up against the building to kiss him.

"We should take the shortcut through the alley and over to Third. It'll cut like five minutes off the trip and...yeah. That's five minutes I have Ideas for."

She pulled back and then started walking, heading into the aforementioned alley.

They would both start to feel something off in a matter of moments.

	Matt liked it when Shelly was in the mood. She let down her serious doctor demeanor and had fun. And when she had fun, he usually did too. He kisses her, almost willing to ignore the off-kilter feeling he felt, but he breaks the kiss immediately. "What's that?" he asks, looking around. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	From the shadows two figures begin to emerge, almost as though they were made of shadow. "Well, well, well....it would appear that tonight we have lovers. I told you I would find you something better than chocolate and I have delivered, no?" The male figure cants his head slightly to the smaller, more female-seeming figure still bathed in darkness. 	Matt immediately opens his third eye, seeing the world as it /truly/ is and not the illusion that most people see. The metallic tang of blood fills his nostrils and his eyes narrow at the pair. "You two really don't want to do this tonight." Matt says. "You really, really, want to leave right now and pretend you never came down this alley." he warns. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"The girl appears to be chocolate," the smaller female vampire muses and smiles, turning her gaze keenly on Matt.

"Now why would we want to do that? We're having a nice romantic evening and I just love this alley."

She smiles a bit.

"You know, Marcus," she addresses the male vampire, "as much as I'd like to enjoy him I think there's someone else who might like him more."

	Shelly didn't have to open a third eye. The instant the male spoke, the spirits started screaming. "...great. Just great. You know when I said I wanted a real-world test of that fire spell you taught me I didn't mean against vampires on Valentine's day." Suddenly, Shelly wished Matt had the damn duster. 	"Now, now, honey. The couple that slays together stays together." Matt says sardonically. "FUEGO!" he yells, directing an wild arc of flame at the vampires. Without his blasting rod or staff, his evocations were less controlled and capable of doing more damage than he intended. Foci were often helpful in channeling his vast power. 	One of the vampires dodges out of the way, but the other is caught by the brunt of the blast and screams as he burns to death. The other vampire snarls as he watches Matt and Shelly. "You're both gonna pay for that." he says. Just then, four more vampires step out of the shadows to confront the duo. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Good thing exterminating bloodsuckers is priceless," Shelly snarls and calls out the short string of words Matt taught her to create fire of her own. As one of the vampires lunges at her, she thrusts out her hand ahd hurls a small amount of fire directly at the vampire's face. "Matt, behind you!" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Matt turns and knows that he doesn't have a chance of dodging the vampire in front of him. He's knocked into the air and across the alley, slamming against a fence before dropping to the ground. It takes a moment for his vision to clear, but he's got enough time and presence of mind to remember another spell. "FORZARE!" he yells, pointing at the vampire. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The vampire attacking Matt is thrown out of the alley and into traffic, slamming into the hood of a car. The vampire attacking Shelly bursts into flame as the fire hits it in the face, going up like a pile of kindling. The other two vampires don't look so eager to tangle with these humans, but they don't exactly turn to run, either. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

As the other vampires elect not to run, Shelly snatches up a handful of the ash the most recent vampiric combustion left behind. Vampires that travel in groups generally have a common thread, a bloodline of sorts. It's what Shelly's counting on as she uses the ash to call on her black magic, asking the loa for a spell of burning blood to be turned on all vampires in this particular group.

Her entire body tenses painfully with the exertion.

	One of the vampires nearest Shelly begins to twitch and convulse wildly as his blood burns from the inside. The two seem unfazed by her attack. Another leaps at Matt, managing to knock him down and add in a punch to the face for good measure. It bears its fangs, preparing to strike. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Matt is pinned beneath the stronger vampire, struggling to get his hand into a position where he can make a very simple gesture.

The vampire atop him grins and leans in to bite his neck...only to find the space where Matt occupied just seconds before his empty.

Matt appears next to Shelly, wrapping his arm around her waist, before whispering in her ear.

"Hold on."

And with that, the pair vanishes from the alley, reappearing at the front door to Matt's apartment. He lets Shelly go, then leans against the wall to catch his breath.

"Next time, we stay in with a movie." he grins wearily.

Shelly half-sees what's happening with Matt and the vampire going for his throat and is almost helpless to act, the vampires closest to her taking the majority of her energy and focus to keep at bay. When Matt wraps his arm around her it's an incredible relief, though it takes her a moment even after they appear at his door for her to understand that they've left the vampires behind.

She doesn't say anything. She just grabs him and kisses him.

	Well, this is a great ending to a good night. Matt returns Shelly's kiss, fiddling in his pocket for his housekey. He pulls her close to him with his other arm, certain that they'll find it soon enough...or eventually. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
