Dinner and Recon (Friday night)
Tessa stood outside Big Nick's Burger and Pizza Joint on Broadway and 77th. She was fifteen minutes early because she didn't want to be late and make Mikhail think she wasn't going to show. The whole point was to keep him interested and she could only do that by being around.

She smoothed her blouse and wondered if she looked okay. She was dressed in a pair of boots, a blouse and a pair of jeans. From the way Mikhail had described the place, she didn't think that anything formal would be appropriate, but she was so unsure of this dating stuff.

The program didn't exactly foster any dating environment, not that this was a date. People like her didn't go on dates, they went on missions. Nicholas made it a point to say it was a mission and not a date.

Nicholas was not happy with her going out with Mikhail and getting close to him, even if it were for the good of the mission. Then again, Nicholas was hardly ever happy. The guy was created cranky.

She looked at her watch. Five more minutes. She watched the traffic and people as she waited.

"Mom took us on vacations in the summers when she was here. But we did have a few picnics. Mostly in the spring and fall when the weather was mild."

He patted the hand on his arm. "The number of sisters and brothers seems to change every time I turn around. At last count, I have two sisters and two brothers. For years it was just Anya and I, but the last year has brought in some unexpected appearance. I share a sister and a brother with her, but David is mine alone. I share him with the others, of course. It wouldn't be our family if we didn't spread the sibling wealth around. The craziness makes us closer than some families. We're more willing to accept the odd things that pop up. I can't imagine life without them."

	Tessa knew about the Stark side. It wasn't hard because they were in the papers a lot. The other side was what they were concerned about. "So let me see if I get this straight. "You're on the mark. David and I are Dad's. Circumstances," such as alternate universes, "made only Anya and me members of the Romanov house and in the succession line. The other two aren't." Although Anya might wish it had. They would both be ahead of her in the line. Misha was still the eldest and the one with his... uh... breeding abilities on the line.

"The nice thing about my family is that we don't make those distinctions. Family is all. All for one and so on. And I'm doing all the talking. Tell me about growing up. People pick up family as they go. Have you acquired a family?

	"Dad's been teaching at a school outside the city for the last twenty years. I grew up there. They get kids from the system. Some of them were really hard to crack." In more ways than one. 	Now was not the time to mention he lived alone in a penthouse with three bedrooms. Misha would be the first to say how lucky he was, despite the last year's events. "The student life. "Yes. It's not that bad unless we're all getting ready at the same time. What about you? Do you have roommates?" It was weird how normal this felt. She had never done something like this before and had never really been out of the Weapon X compound. "I'm going to stay at the community college. It's all I can really afford unless I find a way to get a few scholarships."

"Luck had everything to do with it. I inherited the place. Otherwise I'd be commuting in every day or living with the other side of the family. Not a bad solution, but Mom thought I could use my own space."

A voice yelled 'HEY!' and a soccer ball came their way. Misha released Tessa's hand and took several running steps to kick it back into play. He waved at the group.

"Security is something of a concern. If it's not because I'm a prince, it's because I'm related to a Stark. So I'm always followed. I can get you a picture of us on our date if you want."

He waved again to the soccer group and turned toward her.

"Unfortunately, we don't have a choice. S.H.I.E.L.D. is providing security as a neutral party between the US and the Russian governments, and I'm photographed anyway when the gossip rags need something to run on the front page. They keep hoping to catch me doing something scandalous. You said yourself you read about me in the papers." If she was objecting to it now, it was a little late to claim she didn't know.

He sighed to himself. The whole situation made it hard to meet anybody new, or to be seen out with anyone not a member of his family or an old friend.

	Maybe it all wasn't lost. He could always use a new friend. "I hope so. I haven't spotted any, and there's been plenty of chances for someone to approach. I am sorry if you do end up in the paper. 	On the other side of the park, Misha led Tessa to the old fashion soda fountain restaurant for the best ice cream in the city. It was all handmade on the premises and served in generous portions.
