A Wasp is Not a Bird
The flash of white light was unexpected upon defeating the aliens.  Then again, Space Invaders happening for reals was a little unexpected so Marie Claire shouldn't have been completely confused when color returned to her vision and she found herself sitting in a slingshot in a cartoon-style world with a bunch of pigs in weird enclosures.

"What the..."

She quickly looked around and saw little cartoon-like birds on the ground below her, bouncing up and down as though waiting for their shot. 

"James?  Stevie?  Luna?"

The pigs, cartoony heads though they were, was really freaky.
