This isn't easy. Does he love Svalin? He thinks so - but it isn't an area where he has much experience. He's not the type to wear his heart on his sleeve, or do things without thinking them through - except when everything is on the line - and this sort of counts.
He takes a deep breath. Its his kid. He has to take responsibility for what he's done. Likewise, he may well be in love. He's also not going to abandon Svalin and Vernique in general - it sounds like there's bigger things going on here.
"I love you... and that just leaves me with one... or rather two questions."
He takes a deep breath, and looks to Vernique. "Does West Virginia exist in this world? If so, is it in the same place?"
Possibly not the expected question.
