Demons To The Left of Me, Undead to the Right, Here I Am Stuck In the Middle With You
The sun was starting to sink on the Western horizon and into the Pacific Ocean as another day was ending. A few miles south of 1800 Palos Verdes Drive the ground erupted in a spray of dirt. One by one soldiers came forth from the ground. Some were Spartans, some were Roman legionnaires, and some were Norsemen. A total of three thousand eventually stood in the dying light. They moved into formation and started marching.

Halbjorn makes no recognition of the words, his off hand still clutching the haft of the Executioner's axe as its pulled from his shoulder, hacking down with his own blade as he pushes forward, pitting his strength against Skurge's.

There was another bite at the back of his thighs, but he couldn't turn to take care of the woman delivering the blows.

He bellowed as the axe bit into his shoulder. He pushed forward against the man, pitting his strength against the other man. Skurge knew he was far stronger than most.

Halbjorn isn't most, or even most Asgardians. And while this might usually be a very interesting contest, gripped by the bear-sark, Skurge will soon find himself being driven backwards into Svalin's assault.

This wasn't working. The sword from the practice room was Migard made and was only scratching Skurge at best. She needed her Asgardian sword to do any real damage.

But she would do what she could. When Skurge starting moving backward, Svalin crouched low and waited for him to fall over her.

Svalin's tactics appear sound, Halbjorn's relentless charge forcing him back to topple over her. By now he's already broken his own axe on the Executioner's flesh, and begins wrestling with him for possession of Skurge's weapon.

Skurge tripped and fell backward over Svalin. The fall and the impact with the ground cause him to loosen his grip on his axe in the slightest.

Its not the Bloodaxe, but its a weapon. Halbjorn tries to rip the axe away and swing wildly. Normally, a warrior such as Skurge would easily be able to avoid the swing, but Svalin may well be able to interfere further too.

Skurge did try to evade the swing, but Svalin was there. She drove and wrapped her arms around his legs.

While it wasn't exactly an honorable fight, they were facing impossible odds and getting desperate.

More of the undead try to swarm the fight, getting thrown back, though yet more leave marks as they struggle with Halbjorn. The next time he swings the axe, at least a couple skeletal, now disembodied hands cling to it as he swings wildly, not distinguishing his sister from Skurge in any meaningful way, just trying to put down anything that moves and gets in his way, though he's at least somewhat focused on the man who dared challenge him.

Skurge yelled as the axe cut through flesh. He had managed to move, but only a little. The axe came down on his arm and nearly cut it in half at the elbow.

Svalin lost her grip on Skurge when he started moving around. She grabbed her sword and stood up and immediately went after a few soldiers that had gotten close. Halbjorn could take care of Skurge.

He keeps after Skurge. There's other movement, but it seems to be moving away from him - i.e. not a threat he has to deal with yet. He hefts the axe again, swinging away at the big warrior in powerful, savage swings, heedless to his own injuries and just daring any resistance.

Skurge blocked the blows as best as he could, but he was unarmed and more strikes hit him than not. Blood was flowing freely from various wounds over his body.

He threw punches and kicks whenever he could.

Svalin occupied herself with the soldiers. She did check on her brother between each swing just to make sure he was okay and not distracted by something else.

Halbjorn is full of arrows, covered in cuts, and tomorrow he'll be black and blue all over, if he lives. His left arm, by all logic, shouldn't be operative. At the moment, he's just oblivious to all of this. The punches jar him side to side. He's even knocked aside several times, hitting the ground more than once, he just keeps rising again, swinging away at the other warrior, just as he's going to keep doing until he or Skurge is dead.

Its quite possible they may both end up that way.

Skurge isn't doing any better thank Halbjorn. The last blow by the axe caught him in the left knee and he went down on it. He was half standing at this point and his fists kept swinging.

Svalin kept mowing down the soldiers. She glanced back at her brother. Skurge was down on one knee. It shouldn't be long now.

By all rights, Halbjorn should be down as well. Its impossible to tell how much of the blood is his, and how much is Skurge's. More soldiers try to restrain him, getting cut away by a wide swing of the axe, but leaving more marks. A couple more punches knock him down, but each time he surges forward again, hacking savagely so long as the challenge remains moving.

"Halbjorn!" Svalin yelled and furiously began attacking the soldiers near her brother. "Skurge!" she yelled to him. "Finish him and I'll take care of these soldiers!" Hopefully he wasn't too far gone to comprehend what she was saying.

He's in the midst of sweeping his axe through a phalanx, chopping right through the shields. He doesn't understand the words, but hears the noise in time to turn, seeing someone coming at him with a sword.

He rushes forward, snarling. When Skurge stabs at him, he almost welcomes the blade, letting himself be impaled in exchange for his foe leaving himself open as Halbjorn swings the axe down hard, paying the sword through his guts no mind so long as the stab keeps the sword trapped and prevents his foe from parrying.

Skurge couldn't avoid the axe coming for him. It hit at the base of his neck and cut deep into flesh, severing the carotid artery and the jugular vein as it went. Blood gushed forth.

Darkness was descending upon him again and in a last ditch effort he twisted the sword in his hand, twisting his enemy's guts along with it.

Halbjorn howls with the rush of victory, not even aware of the injury done him. He tears the axe free and holds it overhead, tearing free of the sword, gushing blood as he turns to dare anything and anyone to come at him.

Its likely obvious to Svalin, if not to her brother, just how badly he's hurt, once she looks his way. For the moment, the only thing on his mind is cutting down the legions before him, though even the undead seem hesitant to approach now that Skurge has fallen.

Hela was not pleased as she watched the battle unfold in a scrying pool. Her general was down and her troops had been vastly reduced mostly because of the demons.

She looked at Hades. "It ist time. I wilt not lose any more to those demons."

She recalled the souls belonging to her back to her realm.

"I agree," the greek god replied. His soldiers were also recalled to his realm. He nodded once to the Asgardian goddess and then returned to his own realm.
