You know it's going to be a bad day when....
Ben didn't know when it would start, only that it would. With all the anti-mutant sentiment going about, it was only a matter of time before it got to Midtown High School. A few people, people he thought he knew well, started going the other way when they saw him coming. Others pretended to be busy with a particular spot on the floor that kept them from looking at him. Gong from one of the most popular sophomores in school to near-pariah in a matter of days didn't bother him nearly as much as where the hate was /really directed.

It came to a head in Algebra II/Trig Class.

He overheard Chris Stovall talking to a few people and would have ignored it if he hadn't heard him end with...

"Or, you could be a skanky mutant like Kassi McKenzie." he says.

It had taken all of Ben's willpower not to leap over the table and rip him into a thousand bloody little pieces, though the symbiote was certainly all for that idea. No. Ben waited until the lunch bell rang and followed Chris to the cafeteria.

"Hey, Chris. What did you mean by that comment you made about Kassi?" Ben asks.

Chris looked at Ben like he was a leper. "Well, we all know--"

CRACK!

They say it'll be three months before Chris Stovall can speak again, as the damage to his jaw was pretty extensive.

If he ever does.

Ben Parker sits in the principal's office, now, waiting as they call his parents to come and get him from school. He's been suspended until the parent-teacher conference happens, and that could interfere with finals.

If he'd known they were going to be such babies about it, Ben would have broken every other bone Chris Stovall's body.

	Peter also didn't look very happy, but he wanted to hear his son's side of the story first, rather than believe Ben would simply attack someone for no reason. When they get to Ben, Peter looks down at his son. "You want to tell us what happened, Ben?" he asks. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

As it turned out, today was much, much worse than Ben could have imagined.

Mom flipped out. Dad lectured him, then Mom lectured him a bit more. Finally, they grounded him for the next three months.

Starting tonight. Which meant no date with Kassi.

Ben managed to get one phone call to let Kassi know that he wouldn't be able to make it.

The phone rings and Ben waits for Kassi to pick up.

	There is a brief silence on the other end of the line before Kassi speaks again. "Ben, why did you break someone's jaw?" There had to be a good reason, right? She tried not think about the Valentine's Day incident where Ben had seemed...off. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Well, Chris Stovall was saying some pretty rude and uncalled for things about you...and I didn't take it well. He was saying them during Algebra II-Trig class, and I couldn't really say anything then.

So...I caught up to him at lunch and he was about to start in again and...yeah. Anyway, my parents overreacted, flipped out and now I'm grounded." Ben says.

"They put my sister on watching me tonight while they go out." he tells her.

May was the good child, the one their parents couldn't find any fault with, no matter what. Even when they were younger, May never got into trouble. It made Ben so angry he could hardly see straight sometimes.

/She's turning them against you, Ben. Why do you think your parents reacted the way they did? Your Dad listens to whatever May says and you always get in trouble for it./

"Yeah, but what can /I/ do about it? She always wins. She gets away with /everything/."

/You have to show them that Spider-Girl isn't as smart as she thinks she is. You have to make them see she isn't perfect...and I know just the way.../

Ben's room is silent for the better part of an hour.
