It's only after Sydney leaves that Avery figures it out; the smell of blood was strongest when she was in the room and it faded quite a bit now that he was alone.
Between her and the doctor...he can smell blood everywhere.
What the hell is happening to me?
When Sydney comes back, Avery can smell the blood all over again. And now, he recognizes something else:
He's starting to /enjoy/ the scent.
"Have I told you how beautiful you look today?" he asks.
