The Bowery Mission on Bowery and Delancey was a mutant friendly shelter near Little Italy. It housed men, women and children from all walks of life including mutants. Evening was coming to the city and a few homeless people were starting to filter in. The shelters in the city saw less occupancy during the summer, but there was enough this evening that most of the beds would be full.

The explosion came without warning and the place was engulfed in flames in seconds.

Ezekiel was with the police and fire fighting crews that showed up very shortly. It didn't take long for other emergency crews to show up either. Brooks did his job by making sure to set up a barrier so the fire men could do their jobs.

Smoke poured out onto the street and Ezekiel prayed in the back of his mind. He was getting a list from a worker who had gone to the corner or a smoke minutes earlier. He counted the number of children in his mind and felt a little sick.

Then he found himself asking about mutants. Were there any noticeable street mutants that came here regularly? Oh there were. Now he found his gut turning when a Fire Marshall flagged him down.

He showed the Marshall the list. The man seemed a little bothered by the implications that this there was a remote chance that this was a hate crime. Ezekiel was too but he had to look at all of the possibilities.
