"I mean it." She strokes his hand, and his leg. "Julian... you're the best thing in my life, besides smudge-proof makeup and sweat-proof styling gel." She grins at him.
"I mean, I'm not going to be so dramatic as to say I wouldn't be anywhere without you today, but you got me further than I would have on my own. I want to be that for you, if I can."
She cocks an eyebrow. "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm not too good at settling, and that extends to the people I care about." Whom she could count on one hand, honestly. "There's more than one reason I get you jewelry fit for a king."
