Meeting of the McCoys
More and more Friedrich had grown disenfranchised with his family's methods of pushing the mutant agenda.  While Friedrich was hardly squeamish, in fact violence had little affect on him, but said action should serve a higher reason for the pursuit of mutant survival. While he wasn't sure he could say he loved his brother, Nicholas, he had a deep respect for him. The fact of the matter was, his habit of killing human sympathizers along with "wannabe-human" mutants seemed more petty than for any higher purpose. While Friedrich shared his brother's contempt for said individuals, in the end his continued crusade was not feasible.

His father was even more dissappointing. While Nicholas on some level may feel he's helping the mutant cause, Friedrich did not get the same impression from his father, no matter what he personally claimed. After long observation Friedrich came to the conclusion that his father was, in the end, a sadistic lunatic. He respected the man's brilliance, but his pattern of behavior increasingly confirmed the truth to Friedrich. The Dark Beast didn't care a wit about his people. To him "the cause" was simply a pretext to perform all manner of grotesque experiments to push the mutant genome. Not to help his people, but for his own curiosity and sick enjoyment. Friedrich's own modified mutations were proof of that. Granted Friedrich had intiated his own "inhuman" experiments, but at least they served a higher purpose.

Then one day, Friedrich believed enough was enough. He would never be able to properly aid his people within the confines of his home or with the limited doctrine of Gene Nation. No, he needed a new perspective. While leaving the only home he knew was difficult, it had to be done. So one day, with a disguise he'd been preparing to cover his animal-like legs and claws, Friedrich set out to find someone who could properly see to it his efforts were truly working for mutant benefit. Though in truth, he had little idea of where to go, hence his search. He had a few options, but wasn't sure which would be the most feasible.

Unable to make a solid decision without more information, Friedrich decided a visit to the library would be prudent. Perhaps there would be articles and studies he could utilize. He walked a little awkwardly, he wasn't used to walking like the average human, into the building. He made doubly sure nothing was visible before entering.

He looks at the hand for a moment as if expecting some kind of mawed-horror to leap out of it. It happened once so there was a precedent. Finally he extends his own to grasp hers.

"All right," she said. "I'll call us a ride."

"You've reached the Misha Broadcasting System," a cheerful voice answered. "If this is a pizza emergency, please press one. If this is a beer run, please press twenty-one. If this is a real emergency, please hang up and yell really loud."

Sylvie giggles. "Hi, Misha. This is your third wife. Can I get a ride home early for me and another person?"

"Third wife?" Friedrich mouths to himself in confusion. Was she a polygamist?

"Thanks! We'll meet you outside."
When she hangs up, she grins at Fred, noting his expression. "It's an old, old joke. We're just friends, except I have a date whenever I want and his actual girlfriend, the 'first wife,' isn't hoarding him."

Fred's eyes blink slowly a couple times. He was by far no expert in the intricacies of love and friendship.

"So..you're polyamorists?"

Sylvie laughs. "No such luck. We all played house when I was in kindergarten, and Misha's the kind of buddy who'll take you to dinner completely sans romance."

He looked at her askew. "Why would dinner imply romance?"

"When it's jokingly referred to as a date, hence your asking if we were polyamorous -- which is just /wrong/, by the way. I don't know how that prefix came into use on that word; it should be multiamorous -- when I'd explained he was just a friend."

And with that response Friedrich was pretty sure he never wanted to get drawn intro the intricacies of friendship. It sounded far too unnecessarily convoluted.

"I see," which was more of a 'I don't get it but I refuse to damage my brain more by listening to this'.

And Sylvie will unlock the door and, as they leave, return the key. Then they'll wait outside the library until Misha can make it.

Misha pulled Darlene into the loading zone in front and got out of the car to open the trunk and hunt for Sylvie among the people going in and out of the library. He didn't worry about Darlene at the curb; she could take care of herself. Any passing meter maid or security officer would find themselves backing up in a hurry if Darlene took exception to being ticketed.

He lifted a hand when he saw her. "Hey!"

Fred followed tentatively, the wide open spaces like this bothered him more than he cared to admit. The sewer was dirty certainly, but it always gave a feeling of welcome enclosure. Being out again, and this new person. Was this the right step to take? Had he allowed sentimentality to cloud his judgement? His thoughts slowed his pace.

Misha walked up to meet Sylvie. "Are you feeling okay? If you're leaving a library early, /something/ has to be up." He saw Fred following and smiled. "You must be the friend. I'm Misha."

For a moment Friedrich studied the other man. Another mutant likely, and a human-wannabe at that. Still Friedrich managed to keep his distaste to himself. The only hint of his emotional state was a quick flicker of gold across his eyes.

"Friedrich," he said simply, pointedly not using his "Fred" moniker. "I am merely a poor relation with few options to me."

"All right then." He smiled again and walked next to Sylvie's chair. He'd had his hands slapped enough not to immediately start pushing. "Someone will have to sit in the backseat."

"I'll take the back," Sylvie says, wheeling herself alongside him until they get to the car and she reaches for Misha. "I like the feel of being chauffered sometimes." And she didn't want to give Fred the feel of isolation or squad-carness."

In truth Fred would have preferred the back, away from the..cheery..individual. Still, he would not argue the point. Best to have a compliant behavior..for now. It would be awkward with his knees bent backwards, but the padding he had put into his pants would help.

"Thank you," he said politely as he got in. He left it at that.

Misha stared a moment as the guy got into the passenger seat, possibly missing the fact that it was a two door car and Sylvie had to get into the back seat first. Maybe the guy just wasn't up on the muscle car mystique. Maybe it was just nerves. Misha knew if he were about to be taken out to an unknown location based on a brief acquaintance, he'd be distracted and unnerved, too.

He scooped Sylvie up and took her out to the driver's side. It took a moment to open and release the seat catch so she could slide in. Another minute and her chair was in the trunk. By the time he got into the driver's seat he realized that he hadn't directed Darlene not to talk in front of the friend. They could only hope Her Demonship would stay quiet.

"Any last wishes before we head out?"
