She was so beautiful.
It was pretty much all Kristoff could think about as he kissed her again after his shirt hit the floor.
That and how much he wanted to make her happy, just to make her happy.
It certainly seemed to be going well, too. The strange tension she seemed to be under so much lately seemed to have been lifted. He was certainly doing his best to make her as comfortable as possible.
"I love you, Cassandra," he whispered.

"I love you." Cassie replied without hesitation. Cassie was all to eager to corner him against a wall, table, bed whatever was closest. She pressed her hands on his shoulders, more to hold him in place than to run her hands along his skin.

Oh yes the tension was gone but Cassie wasn't exactly acting relaxed or even loving. Possessive would be a be word.

That wasn't entirely usual, but Kristoff could certainly live with being pressed possessively against a wall. Whatever his Cassandra wanted from him tonight, she would get, if he could make her feel anything like the way she made him feel.
And standing in place though he might be, his hands and lips continued steadily at work on that.

A tiny whimper escaped Cassie's throat and she kissed him even harder. One hand went around Kristoff's head, and she took hold of his hair a bit too strongly. Her other hand went around his back.

There's a slight hitch in his breath, but he's not going to spoil things for her right now by telling her that, well, actually that hurts. Instead, held tightly, he clutches her tightly as well.

Cassie pulled away just enough so she could breathe. If she'd noticed Kristoff was uncomfortable it didn't show.

And then she said one word, one name rather, that ruined everything.

"Nate."

Nothing like a figurative cold stiletto to the heart to put a tiny bit of physical discomfort into perspective.

He completely freezes as both color and passion rapidly drain out of him.

Well, besides the passionate hatred of Kang, anyway, but that's just a knot of ice in his stomach, like usual.

"Cassandra, let go of me, please," he says very quietly.

Cassie didn't let go right away but she did pull back far enough to look Kristoff in the eyes.

"What? Why?" She didn't look apologetic. She looked confused.

She hadn't noticed.
She...hadn't noticed?

"I...I apparently cannot give you what you want tonight," he says quietly. "And you are hurting me." How convenient. He can pretend he's talking about his scalp.

At least Cassie let go now. "What- what did I do?" There was kissing and groping and now it was gone. What the hell?

He looks at her, very briefly with an expression of 'please don't make me say it?' but she deserved an answer.

"An...an honest mistake, I am sure." After all, she had been enjoying herself. His eyes focus on his shirt, on the floor, before he crouches for it. "But... my name is not... Nate. And please forgive me, but I would prefer to go to my room now."

"I...very much hope the mistake was mine, then," Kristoff says. But he continues putting his shirt back on.

"But I didn't-" Cassie frowned and turned away. "What is it with you and this paranoid delusion that you'll never be as good as Doom or Kang or whoever! Get over it."

He scrambles out of the room and manages to make it all the way up to his own before the tears come. Thank goodness for the sound-muffling capacity of down comforters.

Of course, their capacity is somewhat limited when the person making the sound is too incoherent to shut their door all the way, and someone of exceptional senses passes by.

Vincent cautiously leaned in. "..Phral?"

Kristoff's dignity certainly does not thank you, Vincent. But, especially with the particular giving-a-damn gesture of the word choice, the rest of him does.

As he sits up, he quickly brushes his hand across his face to make sure it's clear before turning back. "I am all right. Thank you. I ...had--" he swallows. "A disagreement with Cassandra."

He furrows his brow, stepping in and closing the door behind him.

"Details?" Better to analyze than simply allow oneself to become enraged.

"She misspoke without realizing, and believed me delusional when I mentioned it. Or I am delusional. Which would, in a way, be preferable, but I doubt it."

Vincent's eyes went up and to the left, a sign he was mentally flicking through options likely to happen to individuals outside of the norm. "What did she say? Context?" He moved closer to Kristoff. He'd spare him the indignity of hugging him just yet, but he wanted to try to be a reassuring presence.

Vincent's face twisted in revulsion. "That.... even if it wasn't intentional, that is TASTELESS!"

He seethed silently for a moment, glaring at Kristoff for pre-emptively forbidding him to talk to Cassandra about it.

[info]discardedheir

Kristoff looks back, obviously not going to change his mind on that score. "An accident is an accident. But she needed an explanation for why I stopped kissing her, and the... accusation upset her. I certainly did not wish to."

Kristoff studies the bedpost. "She has been under a great deal of tension recently. She has mentioned ...him on multiple occasions, albeit never like that." A long pause. "It is becoming ...conceivable that her acceptance of my proposal had more to do with her unwillingness to refuse me again than her readiness to marry me."

Vincent sits down on Kristoff's bed with a huff, folding his arms. "Cassandra loves you Kristoff, madly so. She just has more issues than a news-stand with the biological father of her child, and it's not surprising to see them boil over in light of recent events."

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "You're certain that you actually heard it from her own lips? Some external source of deception isn't a foregone conclusion.. although someone who could insert that name will full knowledge of the significance is a narrower pool."

"Of course. It is impressive that she has dealt with the situation as remarkably well as she has, considering. But I am paranoid."

"I cannot even discount auditory hallucination, Vincent, but her recent tension is reasonable explanation enough. Let us not multiply entities unnecessarily."

"Of course you're paranoid. It's you." Vincent snorted, managing at least some measure of dry wit.

He scratches his head in frustration. "Kristoff... Cassandra is the best thing to happen to you, and I speak as one of the most troublesome things to ever happen to you. Do your best just to chalk this up to mounting stress with the approaching wedding. Why don't you let me watch Scotty for the evening, and the two of you go get dinner somewhere? Declare all talk of the wedding off-limits."

Kristoff manages a very small smile at Vincent. "I will likely very gladly take you up on that tomorrow or the next day. She needs some space right now."

A pause. "And while you are quite correct that she is the best thing to happen to me, that category certainly does not always fail to overlap with the 'troublesome' variety." A shorter pause. "You know how much I love you, Vincent."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]quitethecharmer
2009-09-10 09:17 pm UTC (link)
"It is entirely possible to love someone and consider them impossible to deal with. I'd think I'm the least of such contradictions in your mind." Vincent replies with a slight smirk.

Yes Kristoff, he loves you too.

"Don't give her too much space. You two seem to let your aggravations take root, rather than dissipate."

Another small smile. "Point conceded."

"As is that one, to an extent, but I can assure you, she does not want me to go back down there right now."

"I'm fairly certain I could restore you from whatever she could do to you. Provided I could salvage at least 87.35% of your bodily material." Vincent replied casually, wandering over to Kristoff's bookshelf, (only works of fiction, all relevant texts were either backed up digitally or kept in filing cabinets), plucking off a somewhat battered leatherbound collection.

He flipped through the pages, looking between the book and Kristoff. "If I may ask something of less dire intensity?"

"Is it... necessary to actually ask Andrea verbally to be my date for the wedding? I'm not sure what the protocol is in a situation where she'd have reason to attend even without being my girlfriend." He furrows his brow as he turns to Kristoff.

Vincent paused. "There is no real need for you or Cassandra to intentionally propel the bouquet and/or garter in our respective directions."

Vincent seems to be mulling over the potential hazards.

"Extendable arms... of course there's always the rest of the bridal party and female guests to contend with..." He murmurs to himself.

"Speaking of guests... do you have any besides myself? I'm sure I could beat the bushes to bring some of the city's notables in to fill out your side. It would do wonders for our public image, for one thing, along with leaving the assembled seated not quite so skewed in Cassandra's favor so staggeringly."

"...I think simply changing the seating arrangements would be far more appropriate than padding the guest list, Vincent. Which, yes, would consist exclusively of you on 'my side' if so arranged."
