Painting the Town Red
Manhattan was beautiful in those weeks where summer hadn't quite ended yet, but there was the nip of Fall in the air. The trees had yet to begin to turn, but the frenzy of the summer was dying down leaving the city oddly relaxed. It was a perfect dayt for three people to explore the city that was to be their new home.

Charlotte Lensherre, "Lottie" to her friends, had finally slept well for the first night in she couldnt remember how long. The constant worry over her mutation (or lack there of) had finally lifted a bit, finally wasn't so pressing so she felt constantly strangled. She hadn't realized just how badly she'd been worrying, how strained she'd been in, as if holding herself in a constant tensed state would force the mutation to surface. That's just not how it worked...And now that she could think of something else, those thoughts turned to the city around her.

The view from her bedroom was beautiful - lush green trees overlooking a quiet street. She'd spent the evening on the computer. There was so much to see and do...China Town, Wall Street, Penn Station, The Statue of Liberty, Maddison Avenue, Central Park, the Zoo...And there was the food, pizza, hot dogs...she'd barely slept. It was like Christmas, except a total void of parental supervision for the first time in her life!

She was waiting twenty minutes before the appointed time that she, Angelo and Sangai had agreed to the night before, bouncing on her heels in anticipation as she looked up the street one way, then the other before sitting back down on the steps leading up to the consulate to try to wait.

"That's awful..." she trailed off, unable to offer any comfort or anything vaguely intelligent on the subject.

He places a hand on her shoulder lightly, not wishing to offend her. "It's alright. It gave me experience with racism long before my powers developed. Perhaps not ideal, but I think I was better prepared for others' reactions to it." He points up ahead. "There it is, Central Park."

She gave him a warn smile before turning to look at the viable tree tops and picking up the pace, a little skip to her step ad she finally saw proof of life.

"Common!"

Sengai followed close behind, speeding up a little to catch up.

Charlotte's phone, given to her by the consulate, will ring, as Angelo has finally finished with his morning's labors, and now just needs to catch up with the others.

That made her stop dead in her tracks, making a bicyclist have to swerve and almost hit a roller blader as she dug on the cell phone, unaware of her chaos.

"Hello?"

"Charlotte! I'm sorry I couldn't depart along with you and Sengai, but I had to fix lunch. Where are you right now? I have it all packed up and can carry it with us until we decide to stop to eat."

"I'm so glad you can make it... We're in central park. By a huge fountain."

Taking down a bit more information, Angelo double-checks that the deserts are securely packed, then departs.

He comes down almost shoulder to shoulder with someone crossing the grass, but thankfully avoids any impact, or even notice (it's New York, after all). He spots Charlotte and Sengai and heads over to them. "My apologies again. Where are you headed at the moment?" He grins, a large picnic basket on one arm.

"Don't apologize. Never apologize when you bring food." She said brightly before linking her arm in his and pulling him towards an opportune picnicking spot near some trees where they could stretch out.

"It is quite lovely here, sans the muggings," Sengai mused.

"Muggings schmuggings, don't be a Debbie Downer..." She said as she dug in the picnic basket before handing both gentlemen a sandwhich and getting out the other odds and ends angelo brought along.

Sengai examines his sandwich for any sign of beef products. "Debbie Downer? What is that?"

"Debbie Downer? It's someone that....well, it's someone that always sees something negative, in any situation. It's a *beautiful* day, in good company, with amazing food...Relax! Enjoy it!"

Angelo quickly unpacks the picnic basket, putting a small fruit cocktail, a side portion of chicken salad, and a sandwich tailored to their individual tastes in front of each person. He then goes about pouring lemonade, with ice cubes made from the same liquid.

"It is rather pleasant. I'm afraid New York isn't as accommodating year-round as Genosha is, but the changing of the leaves and eventual snow in the park is quite lovely."

"I've never seen snow...I'm excited. I want to go skating at Rockafeller, by the christmas tree...and go down town on New Years for the big ball drop..."

She helped pass everything out before digging in with a voracious appitite.
