"That's not necessarily true, Charlotte. My father was a rabid hater of humanity. Even after his initial tryst with my mother he was contemptuous. It took time, but eventually he grew to see her as an equal, even worthy of love, though he'd never admit it out loud." He sighs. "I don't pretend that it's close to your own situation, but I believe it's proof that it's not impossible."
