It's Midnight Cinderella
Anya climbed into the limo and collapsed onto the seat with a smile on her face. It had been a great night. The fundraiser for the museum had been a great success and the collection of treasures of the Russian Imperial family was now on display. Cousin Mikhail had made the trip from Russia specifically for this event, though Anya suspected he would be paying a visit to the family tomorrow or tomorrow evening.

It had been a nice party and a great excuse to go shopping. She had picked up a new dress, new shoes and there was a trip to the spa. So much had been happening between school and the Avengers, she had forgotten what it was like to play dress up. She always enjoyed doing it and would use any excuse to do so.

She was still smiling as she leaned back in the seat.

Steve was still wondering, exactly, what he'd done to someone to get made to wear the monkey suit.

Then he looked over at Anya and remembered. He'd fallen for one of the best girls in the world and a true blue princess to boot.

Still, he was uncomfortable moving in this kind of social circle. Son of world-famous Avengers or not, he thought of himself a pretty simple type. More barroom than ballroom (even if he didn't drink).

"I know I've said this already," he said, as he settled down beside her, "but you look beautiful."

She smiled and leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Thank you. And thank you for coming tonight. I know you're not a tux and stuffy party kind of guy."

Anya was going to make it up to him. The night had been so much easier with him at her side. Her mind was already working on finding something to do that he would enjoy. And she knew the perfect thing. The Eagles were currently touring (for their fourth or fifth farewell tour) and Anya knew she could not only get tickets, but get backstage passes. Sometimes it really paid to be a Stark.

"Hey," he said, "this was important to you. Wouldn't miss it for the world."

Which reminded him, actually. He still needed to tell his dad he was dating Anya. Not because he needed to know, but because he wanted to see the look on his dad's face.

"I'll make it up to you. Promise." Yes, that was a plotting look on Anya's face. It was the face all Starks made when they were up to something and usually meant a surprise for someone.

"It wasn't that bad of a party as parties go," Anya said. "Cousin Mikhail is getting the hang of these public appearances."

"Hey, you don't have anything to make-up. Promise," Steve told her.

He nodded. "Yeah. Seems like a pretty straight shooter to me."

Anya smiled. "I didn't say how I was going to make it up to you." Yes, she was plotting and when a Stark was plotting it usually wasn't a good thing.

"He grew up blue collar and then suddenly got thrust into the life. I'd say he's holding up pretty well. Though Misha and I are really hoping he gets married very soon and has an heir."

Stark plottings are not good, but unfortunately Steve does not have the kind of warning bells Toni has developed in regards to sensing it.

"Less pressure on you guys then, I'm betting."

"Mmmhmmm," she agreed. "The last thing Misha and I want to do right now is to find someone, get married and start having kids. Mikhail can do that. It's part of his job."

Talk of the succession was a hot topic of the evening and the last thing Anya wanted to do was talk more about it. It was time to change the subject.

"So do we go home, or do we stay out and find something else the papers can write about in addition to what they already have this evening?"

Anya grinned. "I like the way you think, Mr. Barton. So I guess the question remains, what do we do? Or should that be what don't we do?"

It's like his Dad says, go big, or don't go at all. Which is probably the carny talking.

"The clubs are still hopping," Steve said. "Which one would make the biggest media splash?"

"I really do like the way you think," she said. "I know the perfect place." She opened the partition and gave the driver their new destination. The partition closed and she leaned back.

"Speaking of splashes, I told my dad we were dating."

Excuse him for a moment. Steve's going to have trouble breathing.

He managed to get control. "...And how did he take that?"

"Well...'Barton?' was repeated a few times before I could get him to say anything else." She shrugged. "It didn't make his condition worse and no heart attack, so I guess it went rather well."

"What about you? How'd your dad take it?" Not that she thought Uncle Clint would have a worse reaction.

Well, that was good news. Now all he had to do was wait to see if Natasha threatened to break his legs or something.

"Yeah... see, thing about that is..."

"You didn't tell him yet." It wasn't a question. "You do realize that it would be better coming from you than your parents reading about it in the paper, right?"

"You think? Might want to tell him tonight before he reads it tomorrow."

Okay, time to drop that subject. She hated lectures and she wasn't about to start giving them.

She kissed him. "You're adorable."

Sunrise
[info]anyastark
2009-09-14 12:49 pm UTC (link)
The eastern sky was starting to turn a rosy color as the time for the sun to rise drew near. It had been a great night and the company had been even better. Once the party at the Met was done, Anya and Steve had hit a club. When they had their fill of dancing and loud music, they grabbed burgers at Big Nick's and then headed back to the base for Anya to change into her suit.

From there she flew the two of them to the top of the Statue of Liberty where they were current sitting and waiting for the sun to rise. Wearing her armor didn't encourage any real physical closeness, but Anya didn't mind much. She was still spending time with Steve and that's what was important.

Though the party, the club and going to Big Nick's were all awesome, the best part of the night was definitely sitting here next to Steve and watching the sun rise. Her helmet was off and she had it resting on her lap as she sat nex to Steve in between one of the spikes on the crown. She gazed out across New York harbor.

Steve put a hand up to partially shield his eyes from the rays of the rising sun.

"Wow. This is a beautiful view.

"And I'm not talking about the skyline."

He didn't have to sneak or steal kisses. They would be freely given. "I was talking about flattery and thinking about how far it would get you."

"I don't know," she said thoughtfully. "I guess it would depend on the flattery and how far you wanted to go. A little will get you kisses and a lot...well we'd just have to see."

Truth be told, Steve was not quite as skilled in certain... romantic areas as he would have others believe.

"Well... I do like the sound of that. But it might be the voice saying it."

"Now see, that was nice and totally worth a kiss I think." She kissed him again. Kissing was nice and she was quite content to remain at kissing for awhile. It was like she told Toni, she liked Steve and wanted to have something based on something other than sex.

"Never in a million years," she said with a sly grin on her face. As soon as someone had her figured out, that's when someone would get the best of her and Anya was determined to never let that happen. She had read Sun Tzu quite often and had it memorized.

She kissed him again. "Ready to go before someone spots us up here?"

Steve smiled. "I dunno. I'm not the sharpest arrow in the quiver, but I can be clever when I want to..."

He nodded. "Probably a good idea. Don't need a trespassing on federal property thing on the record."

"That cleverness may be what allows you to be able to keep up to me."

She put her helmet on and nodded. "I don't want to try to explain that one to both sets of parents."

Anya pushed off against the statue and started falling. The jetboots kicked in and a moment later she was hovering in front of Steve. She held out a hand.

"Your chariot awaits."

Steve took the hand, briefly dwelling on how many of his past girlfriends would have liked to have just shoved him off the statue at this point.

Thankfully, Anya didn't seem to be one of those. Past or life threatening.

"Let's roll."

Anya took his hand and very carefully pulled him in close to wrap an arm around him. Dropping one's boyfriend from a few stories up was generally a bad thing. Once he was safely next to her she headed off toward the Hydrobase.

A few moments later their feet were on the ground and Anya removed her helmet.

"I had a great time tonight. Thank you."

Anya enjoyed the toe-curling kiss and wanted nothing more than to melt against him, but armor put a bit of a damper on that. Probably a good thing though cause without the armor between them...best not to finish that line of thought.

"That's good to know because if this, whatever this is, continues there will be more fancy stuff."

Stupid armor.

Stupid armor is right, but she did want to take this slow.

"Really? Most guys hate the idea of the fancy stuff. I'd probably hate it too, but I get to dress up which usually means shopping and spa before hand."

Anya blushed. "I'll remember you said that when we have to go a formal event that turns out to be the most boring thing on the planet."

She kissed him. "You better go get some sleep. We've been awake all night."

He kissed her again. "Be seeing you, gorgeous."

"Apparently it's that thing people need or something." Anya wouldn't know much about sleep. Instead of sleeping like she should, she was going to head to the lab and work on a project and do some homework.

She returned the kiss and smiled. "I can't wait."
