Thankfully, the only furniture is the kneeling pads to keep them out of the dirt, and more comfortable, and the low table itself.
Hajime prepares the tea quickly, but with at least the minimum of traditional ceremony - tea is important. The rice is served and offered over, with small plates of steamed and seasoned vegetables, seaweed and fish offered to mix in with it, as the guest likes.
Only when all the food has been laid out, and the guest is given his tea does the host speak.
"Hos is it you have returned?"
