Hajime believes he sees his opening. He's learned the creature isn't at full power - and thanks to teamwork, he has his Masamune blade coated with salt, a common substance for use in dealing with evil spirits.
When Orochi opens his mouth, as he's in the midst of spewing the mist forward, Hajime comes in from the side, striking for the neck.
