Don't Shoot The Messenger
A small crowd of people arrives at the front door of the Brownstone. Two men in suits, one of much higher quality than the other, a trio of uniformed police officers, and a trio of unmarked security personnel with more expensive uniforms. The man in the cheaper suit stands closest to the door, taking out a paper from his coat pocket.

"Just remember, Mr Primm, we're allowing your and your staff's presence here as a courtesy. I tell you to clam up or leave, you do it."

"Of course, Detective. We're just happy to assist. One of your officers will accompany each member of my staff at all times, I assure you."

The detective grunts something and knocks.

"...'protective custody', maybe?" He tries bargaining.

"Jack, you're grounded. Live with it."

He frowns, then stands up.

"Alright... let's get this over with." He stands up and walks over to her.

And, he'll try to hold her hand, because right now he doesn't know anything.

And back to the front door. "Detective, this is Jack. As you can see, he cannot be legally returned to anyone without hearing. We'll provide an agreement in writing to attend said hearing, and he will be kept safely inside until that time."

"There it is! That's the prototype! Guardian Unit 01, you are ordered to accompany me back to your holding facility." Primm yells, as the uniformed officers keep him beyond the requested distance. "Detective, take that property out of their possession immediately!"

Jack looks as if he's going to be severely ill, and while he doesn't obey the commands, his knees buckle slightly, as if he were going to step forward.

Detective Scratch looks in front of him... and just sees a young man holding the lady's hand. "Hey, you there." He leans forward a bit, waiting until he meets the other's gaze. "Van Halen sucks."

Jack looks up at that, confused, then leans away as he gives the older man a sideways glance. "Old Van Halen or new Van Halen?"

Detective Scratch straightens up again, scratching the back of his head. "Better damn response than my niece's iPod ever gave me..." He clears his throat. "Mr Primm, I'm afraid, as I'm 'unqualified' like you pointed out, I can't tell what I'm lookin' at here."

"You... that is unacceptable!" Primm screams, even as Scratch barely seems to be paying attention anymore. The Detective gives a business card with a handwritten number on in to Bea, and winks at Kelly. "I'll be having words with your Captain over this, Detective!"

"Yeah, yeah... you won't be the first. Good day ladies." Detective Scratch excuses himself, walking past Primm and his security agents. After some deliberation, and further ranting, the agents seem to have convinced their employer it's better to just depart for the time being.

Jack just blinks, more stunned than just confused now. "I..." He looks at Bea and Kelly. "Did I say the right thing?"

Bea jsut stares at the proceedings, hand twitching.

"Well, it is an important distinction. Hagar's the one who sucks. The important thing is, they're gone. There'll be a hearing. We'll win. Then we figure out what's best for you."
