Everyone loves evals, right?

Valini had the minimum of four datapads scattered around her desk, possibly more were buried under the loose paperwork. Unfortunately for efficiency, not every police station and psych ward used the tech and organization programs that SHIELD could. It spoiled the agents a little, she supposed, and then was forced to squint once more while trying to read someone's hasty scrawl about the medication regimen their ex-patient was prescribed, next to what looked like a coffee ring stain. Then again, maybe not.

Her alarm went off, reminding that an appointment was coming up in five, a psych eval,  and she hit snooze before shuffling the mess into a loose stack for later. Desk cleaned up, she got herself a new cup of coffee and checked there'd be enough for the incoming client and others. She remembered the last time someone left the pot empty. It wasn't pretty.

Jack was there in five minutes precisely, not a minute sooner or later.

"Reporting as asked."

She looked up and gave a welcoming smile. "Thank you, Mr. Power, for coming. Would you like something to drink? Water, tea, maybe coffee? It's fresh."

"Coffee'd be great, thanks. It's been a longer day than it has a thirst-inducing one." He'll step right over and serve himself some.

"Ah, one of those kinds of days. Most are, now that I think about it," she agreed with a smile.

He smiles slightly. "Yeah. I mean, hydration is healthy and all, too, but man, once I discovered caffeine..."

Ah the siren call of socially acceptable stimulants. "Well, that's the R&D lab's brew, so I'd suggest sipping slowly until you get used to it."

Jack chuckles. "I'll manage. Fury and I, we can keep up with them."

"Mm, maybe I should recommend a scope of your stomach, just to be sure you haven't burned a hole in it." She mock-frowned in worry, considering the idea. "But tell me how your year has been, and more than just 'it's been okay', please." She tilted her head and smiled.

"It's been more than okay. Horrific incidents were mostly minimized, although Fury drove me crazy -- figuratively, not in the sense that it's your problem -- when she was out on medical leave."

Positive overall is nice. She lifted an eyebrow, amused that it wasn't 'her kind of crazy'. "Oh? What antics did she pull to do that?"

"Just not knowing where she was, plus I couldn't find any of the good coffee until Childress let me in on his stash," he says offhandedly. "Fury, of course, claims it's my own fault for not calling her."

"Oh, your fault. I see." She shrugged, as if that explained that. "And you feel well connected with your people? If you are mooching coffee and not-calling people, I mean."

"Oh, sure. Teamwork's in the blood. Dugan needs to get his head out of wherever he's keeping it, but otherwise, we all know where we stand with each other."

"I think he's accomplished both at once. Noneuclidean geometry was probably involved. That's private stuff, though. Doesn't have to become work stuff because I just don't go in for the weapons thing."

Well, being capable of recognizing and not antagonizing differences was good. Less alpha male posturing, she supposed. "Well, let it never be said SHIELD doesn't push the limits of what is capable. Do you like your position in the team? Being the-" she waved her hand to fill in the blank. "- guy."

"Well, I am, at the moment, the only sorceror -- in the Kymellian sense -- in SHIELD. Makes a guy feel special. Occasionally mocked, but special."

"There's ribbing-mocked and agressive mocked." She paused and nodded. "Does your capability ever lead to feeling isolated? "

Jack shrugs a little. "I get a little... more-veteran-than-thou, maybe? ... with some people. Think they're not taking things seriously enough. Doesn't get too bad, though."

"Good to know." The cranky mother hen persona. "And do you have reliable outlets for stress? Any hobbies or projects outside of work to help with keeping balanced?"

He shrugs. "Family visits. The occasional trip to Amsterdam."

Smiling, she nodded. "And the right people, are some not involved in work? Any romantic or intimate inclinations with some of these right people?"
