Hal continues to make Mac look, strictly relatively, like the kind of guy who doesn't rush headlong, as he does make some attempt to avoid the problem. Still, had had been picking up speed when the lashing-out happened, and hisses as one of the tentacles actually grazes the side of his face while he dodges.
Could have been worse. Could have torn his outfit. That's not a matter of vanity, but the fact that he'd deliberately left sea water in his sealed suit. Going to be his best way of keeping up here.
All of this just goes on in the back of Mac's head as he tries again to fly his way behind while Mikaboshi's busy being hacked at.
