Lightning Strikes
Stephen Remus sat in the office of his penthouse, smoking a cigarette as he looked out the window.

"You have your team. You ready for your first outing?" Remus asked the figure behind him.

"Yes," came the audibly distorted voice. "We know where they'll all be."

Remus takes another drag of his cigarette before responding. "Good. You've all been practicing, let's see how you do against the real thing. Good hunting."

The sound of metallic boots are heard leaving as the figure goes to announce the mission's start.

Martin stops and spins on his disc to see what had happened to his opponent. Upon closer inspection one could notice his giant fireball that had been shooting smaller ones was pulsating, as if it was trying to expand and blow but it was barely being contained. As long as he concentrated on this spell he couldn't teleport or conjure up discs without dissipating the fire spell. Unfortunate, but this one had a tendency to get out of control easily. So he settles for waiting for the dust to clear while staying on working hard to keep the spell in check and stay alert should Gerald pop up again.

Gerald was pissed. This little twerp was getting on his last nerve. Then he noticed what Martin was doing and decided to improvise. He summoned an orb of light in his right hand and flung it above Martin. When it reached above him, its brightness suddenly increased dramatically in an attempt to blind Martin ad make him lose control.

As the orb of light flew out of the smoke, Martin frowned, confused by what this was. Before he had time to do anything, it went off in a giant flash, blinding the young mage. It was enough of a surprise that he lost grip on his control of the fireball spell and he could feel it slip from his grasp.

Shoot.

The fireball rapidly expands until it burst in a giant blast, fire spiralling out, charring building sides, shattering windows, and causing general destruction at the altitude they've been fighting at. Martin nearly gets knocked off his disc but manages to hold on and do a rapid teleport high above the destruction at last minute.

After coughing at all the smoke and ash that he'd ended up inhaling in, Martin frowns down at the destruction, looking rather disheveled even if his clothes were fire proof. They still had ash and soot all over them and Martin himself wasn't fire proof. "Ow," he grumbles and sucks on a burn on his exposed forearm. It was hard to tell in the chaos and all the magics around if his opponent had gotten out of the blast radius at last minute too.

That had not gone as planned.
