When Svalin essentially repeats explicitly what they'd just basically established implicitly, Vernique flinches slightly, as if she'd been slapped. Fear of Svalin's repeating things at her was why she'd tried this idea in the first place.
"I appreciate your intentions, Hal," she says hollowly. "And I'll hold her to whatever crazy bet you made in this debacle. I believe in deals." She's too much Paladin's daughter not too. "But all this has really done is give her another talking point. Something else to repeat at me rather than helping either of us understand what's going on."
A breath. "So okay. The deal's the deal, but otherwilse, I, Vernique Denning, admit to you, Svalin's Sifsdottir, that I am the crazy one. My attempts to get you to open up were all stupid. How's that? I'll be with Solver if anything needs me. Like that'll happen."
