The World Ain't Slowing Down (open for distractions)
Since her release from SHIELD custody Anya had been doing three things: going to class, school work and a little sleep thrown in for good measure. She'd grab food before leaving Boston and then lock herself in the lab at the Hydrobase once she got there. She would emerge the next morning to shower and head to class. Darwin and Schrodinger were the only two in the lab with her.

There was so much school work to catch up on. She had even stayed a few nights in Boston because she had to put in the required lab time for some of her classes. Thankfully her professors had been understanding about her absence (having a letter from Nick Fury helped) and allowed her to make up missed tests and work. Of course it also helped that Dad gave buttloads of money to MIT each year. It was nice to be rich and have the perks that came with it. Anya wasn't going to complain.

She called her parents every day to say hi and check up on Dad (she worried a lot). She called Misha as well. She had heard what happened with him and Mom and even though there was a ban on seeing her brother at the moment, she called to let him know she cared and missed him. She had a weakness for the Dork. Both of her dorky brothers actually and she was quite fond of her sister. She'd never admit it to anyone, but she really liked having siblings.

Anya picked at the Pad Thai she picked up earlier and focused on her Physics homework.

The one thing Little Sister could not be counted on was to sleep with any sort of schedule or length. He wasn't sleeping much either, but he'd always been someone who needed sleep and could now pretend so calls rolled over to voice mail. Returning calls in the middle of the night was rarely a problem, and it was the time Misha was most likely to be up to talking with her these days. Avoiding her wasn't possible. The girl could smell fear and he had plenty to burn. Easier by far to talk to her from a distance and keep her safe.

He started talking the second the phone line opened. "Hey, Princess Dork. Has that fancy college taught you how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop yet?"

Anya looked up from the book in front of her and at the screen on the wall. "Hey Prince Dork. You're a sorry sight to see at..." she looked around. "What time is it?" Anya was the master at losing track of time. "The answer is three."

"Around 1am, I think. And right answer! Good to know your dad's getting his money's worth. Maybe you should put down the book and get some sleep."

"Huh. Feels later than one." It felt more like three or four. "Funny, you don't look like my dad." She grinned. "I have a test tomorrow and I still have a few chapters to go over. I missed a lot while I was playing the family delinquent. What's your story? Isn't it past your bedtime?"

"This would be where I pull out my adult card and point out that I don't have a bedtime." Nor was he anywhere near his own bed. "Test, huh? I should let you get back to studying."

"You are one of those weird people that need eight or so hours of sleep," she said. "Physics test," she nodded. "Won't be hard, but extra studying won't hurt." She closed the book and shoved it aside. "I could use the break. My last one was at ten."

Schrodinger jumped up on the table and Anya scritched him behind the ears. "How are you holding up?"

"So you like to think you're normal. I beg to differ." She smirked. Nothing was more fun that ribbing siblings. "You didn't answer my question. How are you holding up?"

"That's not an answer," she said with a frown. Big brother was playing the avoidance game. "I'm good. Swamped with school work, but getting through it."

"I'm okay. I'm...getting through it. Being the good little brain-fucked mutant. You'd be proud how well I'm cooperating. You're still carrying the tranq?" There was an ulterior motive for not seeing Anya. If he had a breakdown, maybe she wouldn't be fast enough to save herself.

"All the time," she said. "You wouldn't be a member of the family if you didn't get brain-fucked at some point." Anya had her bout of someone messing with her mind about a year ago. "Are you sleeping at all?"

"A little," he admitted. A very little. "And before you ask, I haven't been in the vodka either. The professor suggested I don't use it for a crutch while he's working with me, and Dad strongly agreed."

Steve had just come from an appointment with Doctor Pym. While the good doctor was still not exactly happy about Steve's theft of his growth formula, all tests indicated that it would be safe for him to continue using it. He was advised not to get above 25 feet, at least not until his body became more used to the Pym Particles, but that was more than enough to provide the Young Avengers with some extra-punch. Especially since they were losing their armored champion.

Back at Hydrobase, he looked for Anya, as part of his daily checking up on her. The lab. As usual. He rapped on the door.

"Who the hell says paramour these days?" Anya said as she pulled her nose out of her Physics book. "Open it for him." A pause. "Please." Please was necessary when dealing with an AI that had an attitude.

She turned around on the stool and smiled when she saw Steve.

The smile on her face grew and pink touched her cheeks. "Hey, Handsome. Better now that you're here." She slid off of the stool and wrapped her arms around him before giving him a kiss. Okay, so there were drawbacks to locking oneself in the lab for long periods of time and missing out on this was one of them.

Steve returned the kiss, breaking away only with great reluctance.

"You know," he said, "most people, after being locked-up, don't go and lock themselves back-up."

"I've been catching up on the work I missed while I was being the family delinquent. I also have a Physics test tomorrow." School first. Always. Which was why she was now a reserve Avenger instead of a full-time one. School would lead to her running the company one day. That was her ultimate goal.

Steve was still about as full-time as high school would allow him to be. And sometimes a little bit more.

"Mmm-hmmm. Big mega-physics stuff or just the basics? 'cause I'm good at the basics."

"Advanced Physics," she said. She had tested out of the lower level Physics classes. Thank goodness. They would have been the most boring classes on the planet. "But that can wait. You're here and I need a break."

"Egghead stuff, then," Steve said. Well, so much for him. Get beyond the physics of an arrow's arc or a game of pool, and he wasn't much good. And most of that was instinct.

"Breaks are a good thing."

She couldn't help herself. She yawned. "Breaks are good."

"Hey, now," he said, under the poking. "I didn't say egghead stuff was bad."

"You," Steve told her, "nee coffee. Or Pepsi. Or the caffinated beverage of your choice."
