The World Ain't Slowing Down (open for distractions)
Since her release from SHIELD custody Anya had been doing three things: going to class, school work and a little sleep thrown in for good measure. She'd grab food before leaving Boston and then lock herself in the lab at the Hydrobase once she got there. She would emerge the next morning to shower and head to class. Darwin and Schrodinger were the only two in the lab with her.

There was so much school work to catch up on. She had even stayed a few nights in Boston because she had to put in the required lab time for some of her classes. Thankfully her professors had been understanding about her absence (having a letter from Nick Fury helped) and allowed her to make up missed tests and work. Of course it also helped that Dad gave buttloads of money to MIT each year. It was nice to be rich and have the perks that came with it. Anya wasn't going to complain.

She called her parents every day to say hi and check up on Dad (she worried a lot). She called Misha as well. She had heard what happened with him and Mom and even though there was a ban on seeing her brother at the moment, she called to let him know she cared and missed him. She had a weakness for the Dork. Both of her dorky brothers actually and she was quite fond of her sister. She'd never admit it to anyone, but she really liked having siblings.

Anya picked at the Pad Thai she picked up earlier and focused on her Physics homework.

"All the time," she said. "You wouldn't be a member of the family if you didn't get brain-fucked at some point." Anya had her bout of someone messing with her mind about a year ago. "Are you sleeping at all?"

"A little," he admitted. A very little. "And before you ask, I haven't been in the vodka either. The professor suggested I don't use it for a crutch while he's working with me, and Dad strongly agreed."

She nodded. "The nightmares are a bitch," she said quietly. "Mom told me what all happened." She couldn't even suggest he use melatonin or the like. It wouldn't work on him.

"Mom didn't need to tell you all."

"Yes she did. You know I would have ignored her and gone out there to see you if I thought she was holding something back," Anya said. "I'm sorry about Tessa." It was hard enough having blood on your hands, but even harder when it was someone you cared about and knew.

Silence.

It went on for a few seconds before Misha let out a breath. "Thanks. She didn't deserve it."

"I know," she said. "And I know it isn't easy for you." Killing was never easy. Even if the people deserved it. Every time more blood got on your hands it was like you lost a little more of your soul and who you were. "If there's anything I can do, let me know."

He made an effort to lighten the mood. "You can stay out of S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. Mom pulled the Avenger card out to keep me away, but it won't work again."

"Well seeing how it was Avengers business and you aren't an Avenger, understandable. Besides, your involvement could have brought the X-Men into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s sights."

"If Mom's going to split hairs when my family is involved, than she won't expect an invite the next time Dad retrieves me from Weapon X. After all, Weapon X is X-Men business." If there was one thing Misha was dead sure about, it was that he and Nicholas Creed had unfinished business.

"That's Mom's issue to bring up with Logan," Anya said. She wasn't going to get into an argument over this. If Misha wanted in on Avenger business, he could apply to be an Avenger.

"If there's anything I can do for you, let me know. I've been there." She was still there. The nightmares still hadn't gone away.

"You might be. Brain damage, ya know. No telling what's real and what isn't these days. Without the vodka, who knows? Speaking of vodka, did you know about Mikhail?"

"Please. You've always had brain damage. That's why you're an X-Dork," she teased. "Not until I read it in the paper. Either Mom didn't know or she's keeping things from us again."

His low chuckle was genuine and the first in days. "And you'd still love to have some sort of power that didn't come from nanites," he teased back. "One of the girls at the institute read about it and asked if I was going to the wedding. I had no idea he was seeing anybody."

"Never. I have more sense than that," she scoffed. "Besides, I wouldn't be caught dead in those tacky uniforms."

She shrugged. "There was a report about him seeing someone over a month ago," she said. I supposed we'll all be heading to Russia soon to meet her before the wedding."

His smile widened. He wouldn't be caught dead in the traditional yellow and blue either. Black did just fine for him.

"I hope I'll be able to go with the family. If Xavier doesn't clear me, I can't risk it."

"It won't be for awhile. Things take time to arrange," she said. Not to mention her father wasn't exactly in the best shape to travel. Between him and Misha, the family probably wouldn't be ready to go for awhile. "Besides, the wedding probably won't be until next year sometime."

"You have about two years of nagging before they stop," she pointed out. "A year to get married and another year to have a kid. Provided they get right down to business."

"Aren't you just a little ray of sunshine." An heir and a spare. Until Mikhail had that, they would still be fielding royal play dates. "You need to get back to the books, Brat. Don't worry about things. Everything will be fine."

"Yeah, yeah. Keep in touch, Dork. I love you."
