One of a Kind
The Collector was always searching for unique and unusual items to add to his personal collection. He had numerous worlds filled with items he had collected over the eons. His attention had wandered away from Earth for awhile, but that changed. Now something unique caught his eye and he was determined to add it to his collection.

He landed on the front porch of the Defenders' compound. He blasted the door into oblivion and walked into the building.

Vernique just assumes Brandr, battered though he is, is covering her, just like she assumes the others will handle themselves as best they can. She doesn't look over when her wife and brother-in-law are hit. She's completely focused on keeping hold of her son's hand and the process of navigating him out of the containment, through the little portal, and and back towards Aslief, who's their way out.
Her Issues with Asgardian attitudes are something she normally struggles with, but sometimes -- well, everyone's doing his or her job. It's the only way it works.

Her siblings and the others are doing a more than adequate job keeping the Elder busy, and Asleif had been focusing on maintaining defensive spells around herself, Vernique, and her nephew.

The moment she has the chance, she can unleash a teleportation spell.

And covering her he is. He never turns away from the Collector, keeping his eyes on the opponent even as the others are blasted. He doesn't take one step towards them to help, that's not his job right now, and instead moves to keep covering Lady Vernique and Solver as they make their way to Aslief.

Halbjorn puts some serious muscle into it, taking one step forward at a time under the onslaught. While he's making only limited progress, he's also forcing attention on himself, as he does well - as a result, intentionally or unintentionally helping out sneakier or more tactical approaches.

The Bloodaxe slowly pushed through the shields protecting the Collector. It almost reached the Collector, but he managed to turn and send a point blank blast at Hal. He was unaware of Kael coming from the side.

Kael's flying tackle collided with the shields, but due to Hal's attack the shields weakened and Kael went through. He collided with the Collector.

Svalin pulled herself to her feet and launched herself at the Collector.

Asleif quickly unleashed her latest spell, one which raised itself up through the ceiling and further into the ship. As one, every lock on the ship opened at once. Including, most importantly, the ones to the various containment devices for the other creatures in the Collector's collection.

Alarms quickly followed.

"I believe," Asleif said, "that this be our cue to leave."

And she wove her next spell quickly, teleporting them back to the Quinjet. Once there, though, she slumped heavily against the wall, having exhausted a good deal of her magical strength with the spells cast today.

Halbjorn goes flying back into, then through a wall when the blast hits - but manages to see the results of the teamwork - grinning as he's rising.

Of course, then they disappear in the teleportation spell.

Of course his sister would have to step in on the best fight in a while.

Svalin was in mid-attack when they were teleported away. The surprise caught her and she stumbled forward. She regained her balance and straightened up. The important thing was that her family was safe, but her sister would still get a glare about interrupting a good fight.

He doesn't necessarily mind that Asleif has teleported them away. But thinks it would have been better if she had not. After all...what was to stop the Collector from just showing up at their door again? He'd be back, certainly, not just for Solver but probably for revenge for what had happened to his collection.

So Brandr didn't exactly seem pleased they got away, but he lowers his sword slightly and doesn't say anything, it's not his place. But now he knows he has to be prepared for when the Collector comes calling again.

Kael felt a tug of satisfaction that they had managed to get through to the Collector when suddenly he found himself back in the Defender's airship. He was about to ask what happened when he noted Asleif's condition and quickly went to her side.

"Are you all right, my lady?" He whispered before asking aloud "Is Solver well?"

Asleif let out a breath she hadn't even been aware she'd been holding, seemingly unaware of Halbjorn and Svalin's reactions.

"I hath... simply spent more magicks than I anticipated. This weakness shalt pass."

"Get plenty of rest... Thank you, everyone," Vernique says, clutching Solver.

Svalin walked over to where Vernique and Solver were. She had to see for herself that they were okay. She didn't say anything because she felt responsible for letting them get abducted in the first place.

Halbjorn nods to Svalin, tending to her family, as she should be. Then he glances towards his full-blood sister, raising his axe in salute.

"Thou didst well."

There's a grim look on Brandr's face as he's still standing by Lady Vernique, but doesn't say anything, only bows his head respectfully to what she says and as Svalin walks over.

He failed his duty, Solver was kidnapped, which was exactly what his job was to prevent. He'd never failed so utterly at any duty before, and in his opinion she had every right to send him back to Asgard and call for another bodyguard. He'd apologize to her and give her the chance to do just that if she wished when they got back. Now was not the time, or the appropriate audience, for that.
