Things of Nightmares
Svalin woke to find herself lying on the ground. She blinked. What had happened? The last thing she remembered was being attacked. She didn't see the attacker, but the world went black and she woke up here. Where was here?

Svalin pulled herself to her feet and looked around.

The world was desolate and had been destroyed at some point. Where in Hel was she and what had happened?

This is where the young Prince, many times over savior of the realms, comes in. He's in his full Asgardian regalia, maces at his belt. There's the sounds of the adulation of the crowds outside as he enters the room, shutting the heavy doors behind him.

And... yes, right. There's Solver. Of course. Seems just yesterday he was a particularly bright toddler. Well, he certainly looks... godly. To be expected, his mother's son and all. Vernique finds herself rising from her seat slowly to greet him. "Wow. Just hear that fan club. Hi, sweetie." She opens her arms.

"Greetings, Mother." he responds, somewhat stiff and formal, like Svalin on her 'duty first' days. He returns the hug, but its just as formal, and then he's moving towards his own seat in the room.

"Tis to be expected, I suppose." he says, of the people outside. "E'en so, there remains much to be done for the realm." He can speak English. But godspeak is so much easier, more natural.

A twinge as he seems to be trying to beat his personal best time for getting a hug over with. Another that they're alone and English doesn't seem to occur to him.

And. "...I guess so, but still, you've covered a lot. Plenty of time for a break, or a trip to Earth, never dull there, either; plenty of things to do." She tries to smile again.

"Midgard hast many heroes, I hath no doubt they canst hold a time longer. There remains much to be done here, and mine first duty is to the realm... for if Asgard falls, so doth Midgard."

"...Can't argue with that logic." And she can't. There wouldn't be any point. She can tell. His mother's son...singular ... but taking it further.

"I understand the big picture's important, but there are little pictures, too..." she says, hope still striving in her voice even as it gets smaller. Please, can she have managed to teach him that? "And you are part human." It's something she's clung to so much. Didn't matter she didn't know how much of a part; the blood, of whatever fraction was shorthand for what hold she had on her son.

He frowns, then nods. "Aye, and e'er hath I been reminded of it. For the Sun rises and sets 'pon Midgard as well. But its role is a distant one - it shines on all the little pictures, but must maintain its distance, and shine 'pon the world entire... if the darkness holds sway too long, or thinks the sun elsewhere, the greatest evils art born."

Her heart breaks. She's failed. Utterly failed. He's not just cut off from Earth; he's not just disassociated from people; he's disassociated from himself except as an evil-prevention source. Who talks to their /mom/ about themselves like /that/ for goodness sake?

Vernique Denning has given her son nothing, and the Sun God will give to the world only the lack of destruction that is his duty. May something help anyone or anything in the way of that, because she knows gods won't.
