Things of Nightmares
Svalin woke to find herself lying on the ground. She blinked. What had happened? The last thing she remembered was being attacked. She didn't see the attacker, but the world went black and she woke up here. Where was here?

Svalin pulled herself to her feet and looked around.

The world was desolate and had been destroyed at some point. Where in Hel was she and what had happened?

There was a sharp intake of breath and then Svalin gasped. "Solver." No. This couldn't be happening. He couldn't be responsible for all of this. She couldn't have let it happen.

"NO! Thou wert not promised rule o'er Migard! Thou wert to protect it! Protect humanity! Be an example!"

"No. I was to change everything... for good, or for ill. Besides... humanity, what remains after the war, is safe. They may be enslaved, but at least they'll continue to exist. Isn't that better than everything being destroyed in some cataclysm?"

"Nay! Thou wilt not enslave humanity or anyone else!" Svalin's heart was breaking. She had been responsible for raising him and responsible how he turned out. She had failed. She wanted him to be the savior of Asgard and Migard, instead he was their ruin.

"I hath done so aready. Thee, and all of thine... art so bound in your prophecies, so tied to the loom of fate, there wast naught to stop things unfolding this way. But I wanted thee to see it, to be the last of the Asgardians."

"It wast not supposed to be like this," she said. "Thou wert to save Asgard and Migard. Thou wert supposed to be their champion, not their destroyer!"

"That ist the point, precisely, of 'everything canst change'. It mayst not change as thou wouldst wish it to be. Aye, I couldst hath been a savior... and then a better offer wast made."

Solver smiles. "E'er dutiful, e'en in failure...

Mayhap twas some slight moment thou didst let thine guard slip? Or some villain that wast too great for thee? Or mayhap thou didst naught wrong, and this wast simply how it wast always to be."

"Nay," she said. "This ist not how it wast supposed to be."

Svalin brought her sword up. She'd have to kill her son or die trying. Inside her heart was in a million pieces. The only comfort was that Jon was not here to see this.

Invisible within the dream, a feminine figure watches from a distance, as Solver just laughs and flies away.

"Very good. I trust that you're appreciating the ability to make these dreams more... real?" Hela asks the figure beside her.

Oh this was simply delicious.

Nightmare lounged upon his throne, eyes shut, just savoring the fear of those he had drawn into realm. If those fools in the Circle of Seven had accomplished anything, it was making the world more susceptible to nightmare and his fellow Fear Lords. Nightmare decided to strike first before his fellows made their inroads into the new fear-ripe atmosphere. He had chosen the Defenders as his targets. Mmm, so many issues lying beneath the surface.

His fingers seemed to lazily move to a tune only he could hear before his eyes opened at Hela's comment.

"It is hardly the first time I have held such sway over dreams," Nightmare replied. The Fear Lord would not give the death goddess the impression that he somehow needed her assistance. "but yes, it is an enjoyable experience."

Let him lord over this all he wishes. He's making use of the power she lent him to be able to hold this level of sway over the strong willed Asgardians, and they both know it. She does not require him to acknowledge it, and if he gets too insufferable, she'll just take the extra power back.

"Good. Then you will not mind if I take my end of the deal now - to ensure the despair of the Goddess of Hope continues long after she wakes?"

He knew it, and while too proud to admit it aloud, he wouldn't protest too much..for now. Nightmare glanced over at Hela.

"I haven't forgotten our terms. You're free to do so." He raises a suspicious eyebrow at her. "Despair? You wouldn't be conspiring with my cousin behind the scenes, would you?"

"Not at all. And be assured, this curse will lead to nightmares aplenty for the young Goddess." she says with a smile, approaching Svalin, remaining invisible within the dream while Svalin searches for her son.
