Corey was working on a sculpture. It was of the Blonde Phantom, the 1940s crimefighter. Corey was drawing on a spread about her in an art-photography book from the '40s.

She wandered in, careful to stay out of his light. "What is she going to be?"

"Basically her," Corey says, his temporarily free hand gesturing toward the open book. "Part of a sort of zeitgeist series I'm doing. I started with Cornelia Africana and I've been hopping around."

Jenny peered at the open page and her eyes locked onto the image. She stared at it, thinking something about was so very familiar.

"Where did you get the book?"

"The library branch a ways up St. Charles. Been checking out a lot of history-of-visual-culture stuff for references."

"Hrm...." She reached out to touch the page. Her sandwich was forgotten in her other hand.

Corey notices her expression, and gives it a few moments before asking, "Jenny?"

"Hmm? Oh, sorry." Jenny stepped back and moved to look at his sculpture. "So you're doing a series of them. For school or just for the sheer pleasure?"

"It's okay. It's neat stuff, very elegant. Just making sure you were okay. If it comes out satisfactory, it'll look good for my studio portfolio, but mostly I wanted to do it."

"I'm fine." She smiled to reassure him. "Just a blonde moment, I guess. The picture seemed very familiar, but the doctor warned me it would happen and it does."

"Well, maybe it's just that she's kinda your style. Does it happen a lot?"

"Sometimes. It used to give me headaches, but I stopped fighting them and it doesn't anymore. It's going to be quite good. Your sculpture."

Corey beams. "Thanks, Jenny. It's what every artiste wants to hear."

She just wished she knew why the picture was so familiar. "The Blonde Phantom was a real person?"

"Yeah. People tend to know Cap, and then think nobody ever put a mask on before, like, our parents' generation. She's one of the ones you don't hear about, but, well, like I said... zeitgeist. She wasn't as flashy, but she suited the era anyway."

She nodded. How many more were forgotten? She made a mental note to do some research at the bookshop later.

"I'll go and let you keep working." She leaned forward for another look. "May I see your book when you're done?"
