You need to maintain your wardrobe if you're going to dress to impress... (Frances)
Martin might've not really understood why people where so against teleporting in, but at least he was learning to respect it. Which is why the young mage appeared at the door of the West Coast Avengers HQ instead of right in their living room. He'd even sent those blue magic lights as messengers ahead of him. Okay, those things weren't patient, they were nagging little things really, but they counted as giving a heads up! And much easier than dealing with knocking. It got people to the door much better anyway.

Plus, not like this was too out of the blue. Annoying squeaking lights should've gotten the message across. There needed to be dapper suit shopping! He couldn't do it on his own. In fact, he'd even dressed up a little more, with a blazer and pocket square to go with his usual vest, hat and gloves ensemble.

While he waited for the slow people on the other side of the door, Martin occupied his time by examining the door itself, tapping it with his hat and looking to see what sort of magical protection, if any, the building had.

She was cinching up the vest's strap to fit better and looked herself over with an approving nod. Now they needed a good reason to dress up like this. "They're like little cufflinks for your collars with a little chain. Like the thingies holding the Doc's cloak closed," she described and pointed at where the closures would be on the good Sorcerer. His vest went drifting in the wrong direction and she steered it back towards him.

He tried to imagine what that'd look like, and so far it sounded good. Too bad he didn't do capes or cloaks. One day though, maybe when he was older and a more awesome sorcerer he'd go the cloak route. He still hadn't decided on his official future magic wardrobe. "Hmm, they sound nice. Are your going to have little arrows for the link part?"

Martin gave her a sheepish thank you smile as the vest was herded back. Concentrating on too many things with TK tended to lead to mind and object wandering. Luckily he managed to get into the vest, hands free, before any assistants returned.

She grinned widely at the arrows suggestion, of course a Hawkeye was going to have arrows for decoration. Actually no, her father and brother'd probably strangle themselves with the little chain part, so probably just herself. "Need to see if they have ones that look like the Eye of Amaretto."

"Seems like you've been practicing a lot with finesse," she pointed out before the assistants started coming close. "Is it because of the growth spurt, or you just were really bored during the meetings? Hmm, these will be adequate for now."

"Eye of Agamatto," he corrected with some dignity, unaware the rare magical artifact had been just called a liqeur essentially.

"It's because I've been practicing. A whole lot!" Because when you couldn't use your hands much, TK finesse was something you wanted to work on. Plus he was proud of how much he'd improved in the last few years. "...But meetings are real boring."

She smiled all the same, enjoying the misname-magical-names games of theirs. Kept her looking like a silly simple mortal who didn't get things, and Martin got persnickety. Snorting, she nodded her agreement of boring meetings. "Sometimes, I wear sunglasses on the off chance I fall asleep. Gives me at least fifteen-twenty minutes before someone catches on and starts yelling." And then the punishment duties, but hey, she was getting better at it.

He snickered then considered that. "Do you think I could do sunglasses? Or would it look funny?" He did have a pair, to use on the dressed up suit adventures, it gave the whole thing a GQ shoot vibe. Who said stylish and adventure couldn't go together?

"Sunglasses and suits are snazzy," she assured him, even if it'd make him look like a tiny drunk rock star. Wait, not so tiny anymore, she corrected to herself. "The trick is to not snore or bob your head about as you snooze. You know, the I'm-awake head jerk that never works. But you have your hat, that could shade your eyes if you tilt your head just right."

Martin took his hat off the coffee (tea, he corrected, tea not coffee) table where he'd put it while he tried on suits, and put it back on his head, adjusting it in the mirror to try and see if he could get that right tilt. He probably looked a little silly, tilting his head and his hat everywhich way. "But if I put the hat and the sunglasses it'd work twice as well?" As if that's how these things worked.

Frances worked really hard on not laughing at Flava-Flav in the mirror. "Don't over-do it, Kiddo. Now you really look like you've had too many dirty martinis and need no one to notice." Add a goatee and he'd be a young Tony Stark, sprawling in his chair and ignoring the meeting. "Yeah, no, skip the combo."

"Eww," he wrinkled his nose. "I'd have clean martinis. Why would you want dirty ones?" But he agreed, the combo would be too much. "Okay, you're not supposed to where hats inside anyway, so I'll just wear sunglasses for boring stuff if I want to sleep."

"Search me Pip, I'm not one for either gin or olive juice," she had to admit. "Which is what a dirty booze drink has, some kind of tomato and olive juice." She nodded when he pointed out the rules of hat etiquette indoors. Good for him to know, etiquette is a dying art. "Sunglasses before you enter the room or they'll see you put them on and know you're about to crash."

More nose wrinkling. "Why would anyone drink olive or tomato juice?" He wondered aloud, clearly disapproving of the juice choices.

But he made an effort to be polite and get his etiquette right, even if 'barging in by teleporting is rude' seemed to be a glaring blind spot in that knowledge set. But he'd been improving a tad at that! For select people at least. "Oh, I didn't think of that. It's a good thing I've got you to teach me this stuff, Dr. Strange doesn't cover it."

Frances had to admit he had a point, replying with a shrug "Grown ups are strange and like weird things." Really, how many bad beers did you have to drink before you actually start liking the stuff.

He needed to be barged in before he woke up and he'd understand the need for knocking and waiting before teleporting. "I have more years of experience in this field than him, probably. We all have our fortes, right?"

"Strange stuff can be awesome," he insisted, for both uses of the word strange, including the good doctor's name. "But they are weird...you're not bad for a grown up though." Just a hint of a slightly impish smile to suggest that maybe he was teasing just a bit there.

"Yep! You've got a lot." He took off his hat and placed it back on the coffee table to see how the evening suit looked without it, and just with sunglasses (he'd managed to find his pair in his hat). "So what would you say my forte is?" He turned and gave her a bright smile, boyish as ever but now dressed to the nines with shades on.

"Why thank you. I do try. Or are trying. I can never get the two straight." She winked at him, of course he liked strange stuff. Look at his homework.

Children are like tiny drunks, she mused. With telling the truth in blunt and unsubtle ways. "Youbet I am." One of the attendants came up with a card for them, the date and time the clothes would be ready for the young sir. She took it and stashed it in her pocket. "Hmm. I suppose it'd be magic, mischief and milkshakes," she declared and smiled at him, wishing just a little that she could ruffle his hair while she said it.

Martin absolutely beamed at his suggested fortes. They were exactly the ones he was going for. And while he'd never be the type to be comfortable with physical contact, Frances was probably the one most likely to get away with a hair ruffle. But he appreciated that she knew the things that made him uncomfortable, like opening doors and drinks without straws.

He used his hat to gesture at her outfit. "Are you going to get that? It looks really awesome and dapper." Wait...what had the doctor mentioned once about complimenting ladies on clothing? "Oh, I mean, you look really awesome and dapper in it." There, he thought that was right. Compliment the person not just the clothes. See? He'd totally learnt something not-magic. Martin smiled proudly at himself for remembering that detail.

She looked down at the suit, smoothing it down and examining it. This was the most expensive suit she had even touched, but it was also fitted for her like a dream. She started laughing when Martin tried his hand at flattery. It was cute, he was doing well on compliments. "I think I am. Surely some event I can wear this without worrying about gunshots and laser burns."

He beamed more, taking the laugh as a sign he did it right. "Well once they see your suit they won't want to shoot you because it's that great. They'll have to stop and ask where you got it and then you can catch them." At least that's how he'd do it if he saw an awesome suit. Get the provider of the suits first, then catch the bad guy.

Priorities in order.

"I wish that's how it worked. 'That's an Armani suit! It's worth more than this gun, we can't shoot her!'" she said, acting out the scene for him. She sighed, many pretty outfits had died nobly in the service of whatever mission she was working on that needed a shoot out, chase, or combat. Waving the attendants over, she let them take the pieces to be sewn and finished. "Though, I do remember trading a nice pair of shoes for access to a server before. Bartering chips."

"I would do that though!" He protested, because if his opponent had such a nice suit he'd totally take measures to not destroy it. Principles had to be stuck to! "I'd still catch them, just no zapping or fireballs or lightning stuff because it might hurt the suit." He had his priorities right.

But the tale of the bargaining chip shoes had him clutch his hat to his chest protectively once the attendants were gone. "They can have actual chips instead, I don't want them to have my stuff. I don't have that many."

"Because fashion before butt kicking. In fact, fashion for buttkicking," she amended and nodded. It was fistbump worthy, but a sage head nod would do between them. She leaned over and add with an evil grin. "We'd capture of course, and if they don't tell us where, well, it's not like they'll need the nice threads in jail."

She shook her head reassuringly. "No one in their right mind would ever take your hat. They all would assume you have a kraken or something in there to protect from nosy types."

Sage nod sharing indeed. Frances understood the importance of suiting up. He grinned back with a mischevious glint in his eye. "They get uniforms in jail anyway so it's not like they need their stuff..."

At the reassurance, Martin glanced over his shoulder to check that the assistants were still in the corner of the store, fussing over double checking the tailoring marks for Frances' suit then turned back with a tiny smile that suggested he was amused at a private joke. Without a word he gently tossed the hat to the table, where, in the air while getting there, teeth sprouted along the brim at the snap of his fingers, and the toothy hat made silent snarling motions as it devoured one of the biscuits that came with tea, then hopped over to Frances to make a show of snarling and snapping before another snap and it flew back into Martin's hands, an innocent hat once more.

He beamed. "Jack took my hat once so I did make sure nobody would take it again."

Proof that Martin had been in her life too long was how she wasn't too surprised by the teeth. But she did make a note to never put her fingers anywhere lower than the ribbon on it ever freaking again. "Why do you have Fizzgig in your hat? And those were really good cookies too! It had better savor those cookies!" she whispered quietly at him. "Jack was amazingly stupid to even try it in the first place. It would like trying to take the Shield from Cap or Mew-mew from Thor."

"What's a fizzgig? And don't worry! It doesn't actually eat them. That'd be silly," he said, shaking his head at her. Tsk tsk, why would his hat eat thing? "They're inside the hat now, you can have them later if you'd like. It just stores stuff, it's a hat not a cookie monster." Again the young mage shook his head at the archer in a tsk tsk manner. "I don't know what a mew-mew is. Does Thor have a kitten? And yes! Jack was really stupid and he took my hat so I had to get it back and put extra extra spells and be extra careful so he couldn't try it again," Martin said with a very deep frown of disapproval. "Nobody takes my hat." He wasn't proud of his reaction when it had happened, but he thought it justified. So he'd time frozen the entire HQ, yes, and he probably should've just done it to Jack, but it was warranted!

"Fizzgig? Little guy, lots of teeth from Dark Crystal?" she asked and pantomimed shark teeth. Oh how silly of her to assume things with teeth that went for cookies ate them. "I might try to figure out how to make them, but I doubt I'll recreate the snooty-flavor. Maybe it's the water around her. And Mew-Mew, his hammer." She snickered at his somber possessive streak over his hat and nodded in agreement. She knew how that went, Steve was lucky blood kept him from losing fingernails when he grabbed her bow.
