A 'proper' New York Welcome
They'd been in New York a few days, and Giovanna had had to admit it could have been a lot worse. She'd thought of plenty of ways it could, after all.
And now they were walking back to their hotel in the twilight after getting a nice healthy dinner.

The street they were on at the moment was pretty sparse, but they weren't walking alone.
Which, Giovanna decided after a certain amount of attention to detail, was unfortunate.

She adjusted pace and positioning, speaking to Andrew in Italian. They hadn't been using Italian that day. That was, of course, the point. "Stay to my left."

"I don't think I've ever been unhappy to see you waking me up."

Wait, he's not quite sure that came out right. Damnit.

Yeah, Chinese food good.

She manages to hide the blush while ordering. Then, once off the phone, she remembers a nice shiny topic she'd occasionally thought of addressing.

"Well, speaking of things to make the time for, I was...um... thinking of making use of the nearest video store this weekend, when it's time to put All This aside for the day. Somewhere, somehow, there has to be a film adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo that gets the ending right."

"Oh, that's right! We're in New York, things will ship here... let me get online... when I wouldn't accidentally break the computer, and I'll do a search for you. I didn't know you were a movie buff?"

Giovanna smiled sheepishly. "Not much in general, but I love the book so much, and I was annoyed that the movie my mom had gotten everything wrong and completely changed the ending. So I finally found out Miss Ryall had a copy of a different version, and in French, even. I was so excited when she lent it to me. And it was a very good adaptation...until the end. They completely changed it. Again. It was very irritating. I've always wondered if anybody ever gets it right. That'd be great if you could look later."

"Of course. I've managed to download some movies from home, but not that one. I'll look when I can, or if you want to drag my laptop out and do the typing for me. I'm sure we can find something. Lots of movie reviews and such. Speaking of which, I was thinking of getting tickets for Broadway while we're here. You care to join me?"

"Certainly."

"Wonderful. I've always wanted to see a play on Broadway, just never had the chance. I don't even know what's showing. Maybe we can dress up, go somewhere that needs reservations, then go to the show? Seems that'd be the way to do it, right?"

"That sounds like standard procedure," she says with a smile. "And I don't know either, but there are those posters with the green woman."

"I missed those. Which green woman?" Certainly some curiosity. If he's going to get to go see a show, he should probably at least know which one. "Did you bring anything fancy-dinner appropriate, instead of diplomacy appropriate, or should we do some more shopping?"

Because he'd love to see her in something slinky. Bad though, bad thought.

"There was a green-skinned woman with with with a hat-brim over her face. I think the title was Wicked. Not sure of of the racial implications there, but I hope it's just a reference I'm not getting.

...I'll see if I have something that could work.
"

"Oh, ok... I think that's one of those fairy tale stories retold from the witch's perspective. I'd need to double check. And great, this is starting to sound like fun."
