Rumble in LA
In Los Angeles, the stretch of Wilshire Bvld between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues is known as the "Miracle Mile".

In the early 1920s, Wilshire Boulevard west of Western Avenue was an unpaved farm road, extending through dairy farms and bean fields. Developer A.W. Ross saw potential for the area, and developed Wilshire as a commercial district to rival downtown Los Angeles. Ross's insight was that the form and scale of his Wilshire strip should attract and serve automobile traffic rather than pedestrian shoppers.

Wilshire saw a few firsts in American automotive traffic flow; dedicated left-turn lanes, the first timed traffic lights in the United States; he also required merchants to provide automobile parking lots, all to aid traffic flow. Major retailers such as Desmonds, Silverwood's, May Co., Coulter's, Mullen & Bluett, and Seibu eventually spread across Wilshire Boulevard from Fairfax to La Brea.

As wealth and newcomers poured into the fast-growing city, Ross' parcel became one of Los Angeles's most desirable areas. Acclaimed as "America's Champs-Élysées," this stretch of Wilshire near the La Brea Tar Pits was named "Miracle Mile" for its improbable rise to prominence.

Although the preponderance of shopping malls and the development in the 1960s of financial and business districts in downtown and Century City lessened the Miracle Mile's importance as a retail and business center, the area has retained its vitality thanks to the addition of several museums and commercial high-rises. The Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, (LACMA) A+D Museum: Los Angeles, and La Brea Tar Pits museums, among others, positioned "Museum Row" on the Miracle Mile.

A sculptural bust of Ross stands at 5800 Wilshire, with the inscription, "A. W. Ross, founder and developer of the Miracle Mile. Vision to see, wisdom to know, courage to do."

Today the Miracle Mile saw a different sight. Two very large individuals faced off against each other amidst the stopped LA traffic. It was one of the busiest streets in America and today the traffic was at a standstill. People fled their cars as they sought shelter and safety in the various surrounding buildings.

Svalin swooped down on Tryggvi and delivered a swing that would hopefully have some effect.

He's not seeing anything affect the Juggernaut in the least - good! This is getting better and better by the moment. Halbjorn howls, launching himself at the Juggernaut ferociously. That armor may be nearly impervious, but he can still hope to meet the little giant strength for strength.

The unprepared-for strike from above actually made the Juggernaut turn her head aside with an odd little noise for a moment, but it doesn't break her stri-- and there's the sudden screaming pouncing redhead.

In as close to strategic thinking as she can really manage, she tries to throw him off in the direction of the horse.

He's fought enough giants to be used to the tactics of the super strong and massive. He holds onto Juggernaut's wrist to avoid being thrown, and lashes out with a series of punches of his own, as little effect as they seem to be having.

Svalin pulled out her sword and went in for another attack. Maybe she'd be able to pierce the woman's armor.

She swatted flailingly at the horsewoman with one arm, the sword glancing off her armor.

The other just tried to shake off the redhead.

Marlow intended to assist in moving the civilians out of the way, but the draw of magic from the jewel embedded in Juggernaut drew her toward the fight.

She didn't think, only raised her hands and recited a spell from deep memory.

By Cyttorak's seventh crimson band
Let this flaming whip ensnare your hands!

Fiery red whips flew from the air before her to encircle the combatants, leaving the air crackling in their wake.

Griffen is left standing back. He looked over towards Marlow. Then crunched the numbers in his head.

They ha an eighty-five recent chance of winning now. The odds looked good.

Halbjorn continues his assault, almost unaware now of his own injuries as he's jostled about by the Juggernaut. Pretty soon, retreat wouldn't be an option any longer.
He's finally tossed, embedding in the street. He snarls, and is right back up, drawing his axe and rushing back at his foe.

Svalin tried a new tactic. When Tryggvi came in for another pass, Svalin leaped off of him and aimed for the woman.

The Juggernaut's been fairly bewildered all day, but the strange red whips made her more so. That stung.

So she stuck with a variation on an idea she'd already had: catching the woman leaping towards her from above and throwing her at the other target.

The sword connected first, though. Seemed like it nicked something this time.

Marlow pauses a moment to allow the others to get their licks in (they were having such fun that she hated to interrupt their entertainment so quickly) and followed up with several energy blasts. She aimed them for the Juggernaut's head and the jewel, and hoped the others didn't make sudden course changes. The mess would require explanation.

Griffen as an observer was watching it. The scientist in him was crunching numbers and it came up with a good ratio for how much Marlow should go for if her plan wasn't working out quite right.

He had no idea if magic worked that way. But he wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to offer what scientific aid he could.

"Marlow! If your spell doesn't have the desired effect I would suggest going for something with about fifty percent more potency."

Well, that tactic but work, but now she's getting stung again, and again. The Juggernaut freaks out a bit, and finally turns her attention away from her previous attackers, looking for the source and just stampeding toward it. But her stampeding skills already aren't quite what they were.

Because the Jewel's falling.

"Let me help you," an older man said as he grabbed Svalin's arm to help her up off of Halbjorn. He seemed undaunted by the fighting going on in the streets. There. Another bride had been marked.

Marlow was still loaded with power she hadn't had a chance to use. Directly after her last spell, she was in the process casting another when the jewel fell and was quickly snapped up by a stranger. The voice in her head said to pay attention, but she wasn't able to listen until she rid herself of the excess power.

She lifted her hands and let loose the remaining magic harmlessly into the sky.

Without the magic crawling along her skin now, Marlow moved to help Griffen detain the woman. "Where did you get the jewel?" she asked the woman.

Halbjorn, by the time Svalin is pulled off of him, isn't listening much. Like Marlowe, after being denied a real victory, he has some excess energy he needs to bleed off, but this isn't a good place for it, so he paces about like a caged animal instead while the others do the talking.
