Two Birds of a Feather

The warmth of the sun beat down on Gabriel's back as he flew high into the sky.  He'd had a few days to process the information Leech had given him about his mother.  She had... captured his father and brainwashed him into having relations with her.  To his very core, Gabriel was displeased with the actions his mother had taken int he past.  And to make matters worse, Gabriel's vision of starting a relationship with his long lost father had shattered.  Additionally, he had a sister.  "Should I tell her?" he asked himself as he reached somewhere around ten thousand feet above sea level.

"Yeah. I'd rather have us all come home together than in pieces." Lyta smirked, "So maybe it's not all that bad."

"Yeah, yeah." He tugged on her hand a little. "I haven't tried it underwater yet, but I did take it up as far in the atmosphere as I dared. Some part of my head tells me I'll float away if I make it into space."

"Something tells me that you'll sink if you try to go scuba-diving in it." She squeezed his hand teasingly. "If you float away...I guess I'll just have to come and get you."

"I knew I could count on you wanting first teasing rights. Going to make it to the big charity ball this year?"

"Yup. What about you? Is his Royal Highness making an appearance with a supermodel on each arm?"

"I don't know any supermodels, that's probably what the embassy's been calling about. They like to think they need to be informed of where I'm going and whose company I'll be in. Who do you have lined up for a date?"

"Nope. No date." Lyta gave him a smirk. "Funny...you don't have a date, I don't have a date..."

"Hrm..." He pretended to give that some thought. "We could almost go together at the same time..."

He laughed. "Somebody has to be brilliant. All right, Ms. Braddock-Worthington. You and His Imperial Highness, Grand Duke Mikhail Loganovich of Russian will kill headlines when they try to spell everything right for the papers."

Lyta giggled. Actually giggled. "It'll take up the whole paper for them just to print out our names."

Giggly Lyta was a far cry from the brooding Lyta he'd found in the tree. Mission accomplished.

"All my party clothes are at my place in the city. How about you come with me in the morning and you can use the guest room to get ready in?"

"Works for me. We should do lunch or something before. It won't take me that long to get ready, unless you need a whole day to do your hair and get your nails done."

He made a show of looking at his nails. "It is a burden, the whole prince gig. I have to look juuuuust so...."

"I don't. The worst I have to deal with are the stiffs on Dad's executive board trying to get me to drop the Braddock from my last name because it doesn't sound 'professional'."

"It was bad after the whole Romanov shake up, but they figured out I'm not that interesting so I don't get it much anymore. I'm not wild and crazy enough for the press. Although they'll be at the ball, so brace yourself for the backlash."

"I can take the press," she said with a grin, "And I can shrug off the headlines that'll appear in the tabloids the next day. Though Dad may have a heart attack if he reads something misleading. Though he should know that the tabloids are never right ninety-eight percent of the time."
