Fantastic Four
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

Christmas Day is a Christian holiday, it's true, but it also has become increasingly secular. It is an opportunity for love, charity, and goodwill, even in New York City, arguably the most skeptical city in the country.

There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. And gifts have been placed under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

The Baxter Building is too large to have lights hung from it like most residences, but some festive lighting has been arranged. A light, slowly alternating between red then green, shine up the sides of the building. And on the top floor, where the Fantastic Four reside...

As has happened every year for quite some time now, a brightly decorated package arrives for Franklin, from Vincent.

Franklin took the package and walked it into the main living room area. He could already feel how easily squished down it was, so he had an idea what Vincdent had gotten him.

"Well, well, well," he said, "I wonder what this nasty surprise could be."

"Franklin," Sue entered the room, a stern look on her face. "You will open the present than Vincent was nice enough to get you. And you won't make any snide remarks, either."

"Yes, mother," Franklin rolled his eyes and punctured the wrapping with his thumb. It was ugly wrapping, and an even uglier present awaited. Even with his mother standing near him, Franklin couldn't help but groan in agony.

"Good Lord!" he exclaimed with horror in his voice. At least it wasn't a sndie remark.

"You'll wear it." Sue said, not even blinking. "You can change and put it on before Vincent arrives."

"That's a cruel joke, mom."

She had to be joking. The sweater was ugly, and even as they spoke Franklin looked for a gift receipt. To his great dismay, he did not find one.

"Franklin Benjamin Richards," Sue said, "I am not joking, young man. You never have to wear it again after this."

"Mom," he said, "Please just take a good look at this... thing!" He showed it to her.

"He did this on purpose!"

Sue sighed. She's heard this one-too many times. "It is a holiday sweater, and in the spirit of the holidays, young man you will wear it. Now."

"I'm twenty years old mom," he testified, "Adults shouldn't have to do things like wear silly, ugly sweaters..."

""I am still your mother," Sue said, "Whether you are twenty or a hundred years old."

"But it's so... ugly. And it was probably cheap!"

"Franklin Benjamin Richards," she said again, in a firmer tone.

"Mother." His tone was a complete copy of hers. She had to give up eventually, unless she wanted him to ruin the holiday for the family.

"Franklin, this is a holiday and it is a service to Vincent. I was asking you politely and now I am telling you. It's not as if I'm asking to wear it every single day."

He sighed. He pouted. He even threw the wrapping on the ground and stomped on it. And finally he slipped the sweater on, only to cloak it with his telekinetic abilities so that it was invisible.

"There," he said, "I'm wearing it."

Sue folded her arms over chest. "Franklin."

"Jesus %#@*ing Christ!"

And the sweater was visible. He looked ugly in it.

"You watch your mouth, young man." Sue said, pointing at her son. "You only have to tough it out in the sweater for one evening. Just throw on a smile for Vincent and make me happy. It's Christmas and I won't have any arguments."

"I know I'm getting a good present for this one," he grunted and crossed his arms, trying desperately to hide some of the ugly on him. But of course, the ugly had shown itself on the back, too.
