Defenders
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

Christmas Day is a Christian holiday, it's true, but it also has become increasingly secular. It is an opportunity for love, charity, and goodwill, even in Los Angeles, arguably the most superficial city in the country.

There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. And gifts have been placed under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

The Defenders Manor has been decked out with lights, as has most of the grounds. Ohu has made hanging lighting a top priority, and every tree on the grounds -- including the palm trees -- is well lit with multi-colored lights. Despite the warm location, Ohu has made sure that there's plenty of snow on the grounds, too, with a bit of magic. As for the gods themselves, and their mortal keepers...

"Mother ist here?" It was rare for Sif to travel to the mortal realm unless necessary. It was no secret her mother did not care for Migard. "I look forward to seeing her." Svalin nodded. "Aye. They doth accomplish much for mortals. I hath found their technology to be complicated and confusing, but their books on military strategy art most intriguing."

"Aye, though the technology hast its uses yet. Do not dismiss all of it too quickly. And aye, thy mother ist here. She missed thee and thy siblings mightily. We also hath thy Yule gifts."

Svalin nodded. "Aye, it doth have its use, but it ist hard to learn. We hath our fair share of battle." Though he probably already knows this. "Conjured armies of undead and demons. We hath e'en faced the god Set. All mine siblings doth bring glory to Asgard."

She smiled. "There ist mead and the Lady Sydney and Lady Sarah doth provide baked goods."

"And I wilt join them soon enow, no doubt, but I wished to speak with all of mine children first. I hath heard tales of thy battles, but there ist yet more thou must face before thou mayst return to Asgard. But mayhap thy Yule gift wilt aid thee some small bit."

Svalin smiled. Yule gifts were usually food, clothing or weapons and judging by what her father just said, it sounded like it was a weapon.

She nodded. "Aye. There ist much to be done." She paused for a moment. "Alseif hath been interacting with Amora's son." This still didn't sit well with Svalin. Not that she had reason to be concerned about her sister, it was Amorason she was concerned about.

"I wilt neither bless nor condemn her now, for tis not yet our place to interfere. Tis thy test to win or lose without thy parents' guidance."
He reaches into the packs he brought with him, drawing out her Yule gift, a sword of Asgardian steel, which faintly radiates magic.

"Twas forged with Mjolnir itself serving as the smith's tool. when thou takest it in hand, the grip shalt mold itself to thy grip. It shalt not break nor lose its edge save in the most dire of battles, and it shalt feel right and balanced to no hand but thine. But otherwise, it carries no enchantment nor a name yet... tis thy duty to do such deeds as wilt honor it, and eventually let the blade be recast stronger and further enchanted. Thou now hast thy sword, but thou must earn it a name."

Svalin bowed. "I wilt bring honor to the blade and earn it a name most fitting. With it in mine hand I wilt bring honor to thine house and Asgard. Thank thee, Father."

"I wouldst expect nothing less of thee." he agrees, resting a hand on his daughter's shoulder. "I wish I couldst say more of what the vizier hast seen for you, but this is thy test to bear. Though I can offer thee no other aid, know well that I hath e'ery faith in thee and thy siblings."

"Thank thee, Father." Svalin straightened up. "I wilt finish my chores here and see Mother whilst thou talk to mine siblings. Then we wilt celebrate Yule."
