Defenders
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

Christmas Day is a Christian holiday, it's true, but it also has become increasingly secular. It is an opportunity for love, charity, and goodwill, even in Los Angeles, arguably the most superficial city in the country.

There is some debate within mystical circles if there is indeed such a creature as the embodiment of Christmas Giving known as Santa Claus. But whether or not there is such a being, the spirit of giving itself is very real, be it incarnated in a fat man in a red suit or not.

Throughout this small blue planet of Earth, people have brought trees into their homes, decorated them with lights and ornaments, and placed them in locations of honor. Stockings have been placed on the chimneys. And gifts have been placed under the tree.

Some are looking forward more to the receiving than the giving. But for many, it is the act of giving which warms them, which fills them with the holiday spirit.

Each person, in their own way, becomes a part of this spirit of giving. Each person, in their own way, becomes Santa Claus.

The Defenders Manor has been decked out with lights, as has most of the grounds. Ohu has made hanging lighting a top priority, and every tree on the grounds -- including the palm trees -- is well lit with multi-colored lights. Despite the warm location, Ohu has made sure that there's plenty of snow on the grounds, too, with a bit of magic. As for the gods themselves, and their mortal keepers...

"Aye, but that wast when I wast five. Sugared ices and cookies art well enow for rewards for children, and Zoey I canst understand. Ohu filling many bags with treats and no food of substance... less so. And I hath long since lost all taste for such things, save mead."

"Some doth not outgrow the taste for sweets," Sif observed. "It ist a shame, mine son. Sweets once awhile art a nice treat."

"Aye, I wouldst agree there. I art certain the Lady Sydney wouldst not let her daughter eat sweets all of the time."

"Tis true, though a trickster god and a small child make a surprisingly effective team sometimes."

Sif smiled. "I canst imagine. I remember how clever thou and thine sister were when thou wert Zoey's age. Missing sweets and treats didst not go unnoticed."

He snorts at that. Creativity has never been his strong point and never will be. And even as a small child, he knew it. "Methinks thou'rt still blaming me for Aslief and Aridis' mischiefs they blamed me for."
Which, were it anyone else, would sound like he's playing innocent. He really wasn't /that/ kind of trouble maker though.

Now, the destroyed furniture, smashed doors, dented walls and anything else that got in the way of either his imagination or his temper on the other hand... but at least he's always been accountable for those, as if it weren't obvious who was pretending the couch was a dragon... again.

"Thou certainly had moments of mischief," Sif said. Though with her son it had been mostly destroyed furniture along with Svalin. There were monsters to slay and battles to win and during the winter the furniture got the worst of it. "Just not as oft as thine sisters."

"Aye, and mine other mother wouldst ne'er let me forget how oft she needed to repair the furniture with her magics, or how much damage wast done to the house. Methinks though it mayst not hath been as oft, twas only because I wast rarely in the house past some five years when I wast taken into the bear sark lodges. Else I mayst not hath left the house standing at all."
His kind of trouble as a kid he fully acknowledges.
"Svalin? And here I thought she wast always a model child. At least she wast always the example Father told me I shouldst be following whene'er mine other mother grew too frustrated with the destruction."

"Thou each had moments of mischief," Sif said. "Including Svalin. She wast one to bring various animals home and she destroyed her share of the furniture with her swords."

"Enow talk of thine childhood." Sif didn't need to be reliving it. Four active kids at once had been a handful for three adult. "Let us get some mead and food to celebrate Yule."

He grins at that, now having at least some perspective on what they put their parents through. "But of course, a feast ist just the thing for such a day as this."

"Of course!" he agrees pleasantly. "Aridis hast always been far better for tale spinning, but methinks she wast otherwise engaged that battle. Methinks thou wilt recognize the style of't, at least. We hath not been sure how much thou hast seen and known of our endeavors here."

He leads in to the main hall, looking forward to mead and good food already, while starting in on the tales of the demon and undead invasion, and his battle with Skurge.
