Lavinia really didn't understand all the drama that people invited into their lives. Merlin was always making himself miserable to try and please other people who hadn't ever really asked to be pleased in the first place, and she was getting tired of his hurt puppy face everytime Draco was around. Which was rather a lot. Their families were close and Merlin and Draco were supposed to be close and she was tired of wounded Merlin.

She walked into her brother's room, sitting on his bed. "Draco and his boyfriend broke up," she said. This had to cheer Merlin up. "They had a big, public falling out."

Lavinia have Merlin an unimpressed look. "What kind of homophobic bullshit is that?" she asked, punching his arm. "I'm telling you this because you're supposed to be my big brother and my best friend."

She flopped down beside him. "You used to tell me everything and now you just frown and sulk and frown and sulk and study."

Merlin ran a hand through his hair. He did tell Lavinia everything for a while. But, then things had gotten complicated. He didn't want people to know what he was going through.

"Alright." Merlin looked down at her. "A few years ago, Draco and I made love. Just to get sex out of the way and to see what everyone was raving about. We did it a few more times. Kissed. Cuddled. And then Draco tried outting me at a party. And you know how Dad would feel about it. And I've spent the last two years trying to make myself straight."

"Dad wouldn't be thrilled about it, but it's not like he'd kick you out of the house or anything. Mum wouldn't let him if he tried. She'd probably throw him out instead," Lavinia said. "Dad would get over it."

She sighed. Sex just seemed like it made everything so complicated. Why did people bother? "So basically, you and Draco both fancy each other, but neither of you is willing to to admit it at this point?"

"I don't want to disappoint him." Merlin admitted after a moment, letting out a sigh. "He expects so much from me. It's just... I don't know. It's just not something I'm willing to do. I can fix my problem."

He looked at Lavinia. "I told him how I feel about him. He wasn't willing to wait for me."

"Do you really feel like it's something that needs to be fixed?" Lavinia asked, shifting on the bed so she could lean against Merlin's side while they talked. "I don't know, Merlin. Feelings are so complicated."

She sighed. "You just told me you weren't willing to come out and that you want being gay to get fixed. I don't know. How long would you make Draco wait?"

Merlin wasn't very good with feelings. He wasn't very good at having them. He closed his eyes with a sigh and shook his head. He didn't even know how to describe how he was feeling.

"I guess I just... Well." Merlin grumbled to himself. "I feel like if Draco would have had the courage for me, or would have at least tried to help me through it, I wouldn't feel so alone about it. He just got angry with me instead of trying to help me."

"Well, he's Draco," Lavinia pointed out. "You can love him all you want, but he's always going to be Draco. You know what he's like. He doesn't think things through. He's all emotion, even if he tries to hide it."

She rubbed Merlin's arm as she leaned against him. "Did you tell him you wanted his help to get through it? That you need him to support you to be able to be the man he wants?"

"I didn't want to be the one who begs for help. You know I struggle with that." Merlin told her with a soft sigh. He ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head, giving her a pathetic look.

"I think I'm better off leaving him alone." Merlin informed her. "Why are you fixing my love life? Shouldn't you be working on your own? Have you shagged Pyxis yet?"

"Don't be silly. Pyxis is shagging Rider," Lavinia said, shaking her head dismissively. "She fancies him and he doesn't think of her as more than a friend. It's tragic and it'd be nice to fix it, but I don't want to screw things up for everyone trying."

She poked Merlin's ribs gently. "I'm fixing yours because Draco broke up with his boyfriend. Now is the time to try and fix you up."

Merlin shook his head, letting out a soft sigh. "No. Draco has made it clear to me that he's not interested in having a relationship with me. At least, not the kind of relationship I could give him right now."

He ran a hand through his hair. "Set me up with a nice girl or something."

"I don't know any nice girls. I know Pyxis," Lavinia said. "I guess technically I know Pansy too, but I can't see you and Pansy working out even if you liked girls. It would drive Draco crazy though."

She kissed Merlin's cheek. "We can talk about your magazine or something if this is all too much for you."

Merlin shrugged. Lavinia always had to be so logical about things. And he really didn't like thinking about his own feelings. But, for some reason, she always sort of forced him into it. He sighed softly and shook his head.

"I've thought about dating Pansy. I hate her, but I've thought about it." Merlin laughed to himself. "We'd probably kill each other."

"You'd definitely kill each other," Lavinia agreed. She paused for a moment. "Well... she might kill you first, actually. I think she has a slightly shorter temper, but only slightly."

Lavinia leaned her head against Merlin's shoulder. "Even if you asked, I'm sure she'd say no. Don't think about it too hard."

Merlin looked down at Lavinia and sighed, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. He didn't know why his sister was suddenly so interested in his love life, but it felt weird.

"We should go out and do something." Merlin told her, smiling. "Call up some of our friends and go out. Who do we know? What about the Lestrange kids? You could date a Lestrange. The pretty one with the nice hair."

"Right." Lavinia raised an eyebrow at Merlin. "You just described every single Macnair, Merlin. They're all pretty with nice hair, so I'm not sure which one you're referring to."

She pulled her phone out to text Pyxis and see if she and her brothers were busy. "I'm asking Pyxis if she's got plans for the day."

"Not a Macnair. Please." Merlin rolled his eyes at her and shook his head. "Don't date a Macnair. They're all half-mentally challenged and that Rider one has weird ears."

He shrugged. "One of the actual Lestrange boys."

"Pyxis says they're free," Lavinia said, after a moment. "She'll bring her brothers and we'll meet at the pub. At least it'll get you out of the house."

She got up and put her hands on her hips. "If I'm going out and spending time with my best friend who's a girl and her brothers, you're definitely coming with me."

Merlin sighed softly. Of course he had to tag along with his sister and Pyxis and her two brothers. Maybe he'd actually find a girl while he was out and wouldn't be tempted by the god-like Lestrange boys.

"Fine." He told her as he stood up and walked to is closet. "Should I wear a suit?"

"No." Lavinia gave Merlin an incredulous look. "For God's sake, Merlin. We're going to a pub. You can't dress like you're going to a funeral. Do you own jeans? I know you have sweaters, at least."

She wormed in front of him, going through his closet and picking out a sweater for him. "Here. This and the most casual pair of trousers you own."
