Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Romy was kind of nervous as she rode in the cab to the house Walden had given her the address too. He really didn't live that far from her mother and Step-Dad. She chewed at her bottom lip and fiddled with the basket of sweets she'd gotten Rex to bake, vegan style.

When the man stopped, she got out of the cab and paid him, then walked to the door. She was going to make a nice impression on his family. They'd like her and she'd be their daughter in law some day.

Walden looked down at the cats and laughed. "Yeah, it is," he agreed, grinning at them. "I know it's a bit much to take in at first, but they're all pretty friendly. We'll have to pick out yours today so you can take it home with you."

He took the sweets from Romy, putting them in a cupboard where they'd be safe and then setting Winky down on the ground. Walden wrapped his arms around Romy and pulled her close to his chest, kissing her softly. "I missed you," he told her. "I'm going to take you out to dinner tonight on a real date. Maybe I'll get to meet your mum and your siblings this weekend, if I'm lucky."

This felt nice. Romy pressed against Walden and kissed him again, grinning. "I missed you too. Hopefully you'll be in London soon enough. Daddy says that you can stay with us if you want to."

She ran her fingers through Walden's hair. "At least you'd still be around a cat when I take one home."

"That's nice of your dad," Walden said, smiling down at Romy and holding her close. She was sweet. He knew what he'd done with Pyxis was wrong, but he could make it up to Romy. Be the boyfriend she deserved. "I don't know what my plans are yet, but I'd definitely be bringing Winky with me. I think my mate Dudley's coming to London too. He got in. He just had to convince his mother it's okay for him to be that far away from home."

Walden picked Romy up, kissing her lightly. "Let's go look at the kittens. I want you to pick out a sweet little one that will love you forever. I think that sounds like the kind of cat for you. I've got one in mind."

Romy smiled at that. "Well. I'd love to meet your friend Dudley." She promised him and then she was being picked up. Which she really liked. She'd always seen her Dad being picked up by her Daddy.

She kissed him softly. "You do? Which one?" She asked, letting him carry her.

"I'm sure you will. I told him my girlfriend was coming over this weekend and he was excited to meet you," Walden told Romy, carrying her into the living room. He set her down on the couch, grinning at her. "Hold on. Let me grab her."

He walked over to where a bunch of the kittens and cats were stretched out in the sun coming through the window, then scooped up a little white ball of fluffy fur, carrying it back over to Romy with a grin. Walden sat beside Romy, putting the sleepy kitten in her lap. "She doesn't have a name yet, but she's a sweetheart. Very cuddly and affectionate and beautiful."

Romy settled onto the sofa and then looked up at the tiny ball of fluff that Walden was carrying over to her. She smiled and looked down at the kitten in her lap, running her fingers over the soft fur.

"She's adorable." Romy smiled at the kitten and picked her up, nuzzling her a bit. "I've never named a cat before." She looked down at her again. "I could name her Taylor Swift."

Walden wasn't sure if Romy was joking or not, but he laughed anyway because Taylor Swift was a pretty ridiculous name for a kitten. "You could," he agreed. "She's basically blonde like Taylor Swift is."

He reached out, scratching the kitten behind the ears. "She's yours, if you want her. You can name her anything you'd like."

"I just really like Taylor Swift's music." Romy admitted as she looked down at the cat. "I don't know. I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something before I leave here. I'm trying to think of white things."

She looked up at Walden. "Popcorn is white. But, that seems like a silly name for a cat."

"I think Popcorn would be an adorable name for a cat," Walden said, smiling at Romy. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "People name cats silly things all the time. My cat is named Winky. But I was about ten when I named her."

Sitting with Romy and her new kitten was nice, right? Walden kissed her temple. "I don't think I've heard that much of Taylor Swift's music. You'll have to let me listen to some."

"She's great. Her songs are super catchy. She's not my favourite or anything, but I like her." Romy smiled at Walden. "I listen to a lot of Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. They're two of my faves."

She leaned back against the couch and let the kitten rest against her chest. "Maybe I could name her Storm. Rider really likes this comic book girl named Storm. He likes Harley Quinn more, though."

Walden was pretty sure Dudley listened to Nicki Minaj and Rihanna at least a little. He nodded in agreement. "I know them. My mate Dudley's more on top of the music stuff than I am. You'll probably be able to talk about it with him."

"Storm's a good name for a kitten too," Walden agreed, kissing Romy's temple and smiling at her. "She has white hair like Storm does. You can always give yourself some time. Get to know her this weekend and the name will come to you." He looked up when the door opened and his mother and grandmother walked in.

"Is this the girlfriend?" Arabella asked, walking into the house and smiling at the girl Walden had his arm around. She was a slip of a thing, much too small, but she had a kitten in her lap and Walden said he liked her a lot. "It's nice to meet you, dear. I'm Arabella Figg, Walden's gran."

Romy looked up when she heard the woman's voice. She smiled at her for a moment and then put the kitten aside so that she could stand up and walk over to greet the woman.

She held out her hand. "Yes. I'm Romy Lestrange. It's very nice to meet you."

Betty was standing behind her mother and looking the girl over. She was very small and Walden was very big. The other girl had looked more sturdy. "It's nice to meet you as well, Miss Lestrange."

Walden got up too, wading through the cats so he could stand beside Romy, resting a hand on the small of her back. "Romy's mum and step-dad live a couple blocks over, so she's going to stay with them tonight," he said, smiling. "But I'm going to take her out to dinner tonight. Romy brought some vegan sweets with her."

"That sounds very nice," Walden's grandmother agreed. "Romy, come into the kitchen and tell us more about yourself. All we know is Walden's been holing himself up in his room to talk to you on the computer."

"Okay." Romy nodded and walked with the other two women into the kitchen. "I don't mean to make Wallie stay in his room all the time. I just really enjoy talking to him. That's all."

She smiled at the two of them. "Things will be easier when he's living in London, but he still won't spend time with you. Have you thought of coming to London?"

Arabella blinked at Romy. Had they thought about moving to London? "We both have our careers here, and we have our house," she told the girl. "It's much easier for Walden to go there for school than it is for a whole family to move. I'm sure he'll be going somewhere else for university as well."

Walden touched Romy's back, nodding and deciding it was probably his job to try and save this. "Romy's father offered to let me stay with them while I go to school, but I think me and Dudley are going to try and be roommates."

"Not just my father." Romy shook her head as she looked up at Walden. "Your dad said you could stay too. I'm sure we have room for Dudley too."

Betty frowned at that and looked at Walden. "What does she mean, Walden?"

Walden sighed. This was something he'd neglected to tell his mother and grandmother about. "Romy kind of... Her father and my biological father are together," he said. "I met her when I went looking for him in London."

He ran a hand through his hair. "I know I should have told you about it, Mum, but I just... didn't want to upset you."

Romy looked between Walden and his mother and bit her lip. "I... What's wrong with that? It's not like we're related or anything. He's just my adoptive father. That's all."

Betty looked at Romy for a moment and shook her head. "It matters because I'm not entirely fond of Walden meeting his father. Let alone dating his daughter and seeing the man on a regular basis."

Romy didn't understand. "But... Why? My Daddy is a good man and he was happy when he met Walden. I love my Daddy."

Walden had pictures this meeting going a lot better. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Mum, I really don't think... I mean, I think he's different now that he was before, and Romy is his daughter. I was just curious. I was only going to see him the once and then go."

Arabella didn't like this either. She frowned at Romy. "Your father is not a good man," she said, shaking her head. "He raped my daughter when she wasn't much older than you are now. We never wanted Walden to have anything to do with him. Walden is a good boy. He doesn't need an influence like that in his life."

Romy hadn't known that. She hadn't known those things about her Daddy, but he was still a good man. He loved her. He loved her father. He had raised her and gave her everything she wanted.

She looked at Walden for a moment, blinking away tears. "I think I should go." She said, her voice tight. "I don't think they want me here."

Walden knew they didn't. He gave Romy a sad look. "I'll come with you," he said. "We can go to your mother's house. I can walk you."

Arabella didn't think Walden should go with this girl, but if they don't him no it would just make him like her more. "Be home for dinner," she said firmly. "We'll be expecting you, Walden."

Romy was doing her best to hold it together. She didn't want to break down in front of the two women who apparently hated her. She'd never had anyone who didn't like her before. These women didn't have a good reason to even hate her.

"It was nice meeting you." Romy told them in a quiet, hurt voice and then walked out of the room quickly. She didn't wait for Walden. She walked straight outside and let herself go, bursting at the seams.
