Draco was supposed to be having lunch with Pansy and listening to her talk about her new boyfriend, but for the most part he was playing with his phone. It had been a week since he'd heard anything from Merlin and, given that the last time they'd seen each other Draco had had to leave for a while to give Merlin a break, he was starting to get worried. Plus, Merlin hadn't been at school and he hadn't answered Draco's texts asking how he was feeling and it just... It was worrying.

He put his phone down because, no, there still weren't any new texts from Merlin, and looked up at Pansy. "I can't believe Father actually approved of a man for you. It's got to be some sort of miracle."

Pansy pulled out of his arms, feeling hurt. "Whatever, Draco. I came here with you today because you were hurting. And you just let him sit there and talk to me like I'm a dog or something. I'm not going to take it anymore." She stood up and walked to the door, pulling it open and stopped when she saw Lucius. She frowned and stepped around him, walking off.

Merlin rolled his eyes at her and poured Draco a drink, walking it over to him when he spotted Lucius. "I... Hello, Mister Malfoy."

Lucius was not expecting Pansy to open the door before he could knock. He looked after her, then looked at Merlin and Draco in the flat, suddenly feeling uneasy. "Hello," he said, and cleared his throat. "Something seems to have upset Pansy."

"I should go after her," Draco said. "I'm sorry, Merlin." He got up from the couch, chasing Pansy down the hall. "Pansy, wait. I'm sorry. You're right." He grabbed her hand, standing with her in front of the lift. "I shouldn't have let him say those things. I was just nervous. I didn't want to upset him again."

Lucius watched Draco leave, then shut the door to the flat, looking at Merlin and sighing. "I didn't realize he and Pansy would be here," he said. "I wouldn't have come and made things... even more uncomfortable than I suspect they are."

Pansy crossed her arms over her chest, pulling her hand away from him. "I don't want to hear it, Draco. You don't care about how I feel. You've only ever cared about him and he's obviously shit to you. When you feel that you can actually be my friend, a good friend who doesn't let their so called boyfriend talk down to their best friend, then maybe I'll come around again."

"I don't know why he insists on bringing Pansy with him. He knows I don't like her." Merlin informed Lucius, shrugging. "You aren't making me uncomfortable by being here. He doesn't know what we've been doing."

"It was only a week. He's not shit to me," Draco said, running a hand through his hair. "We've only just gotten together. I hurt him too. Just... I know you're right to be mad at me. I just want you to know that I'm sorry. I do care how you feel. That's why I suggested inviting Theodore over."

"I'd prefer to keep it that way, if you don't mind," Lucius told Merlin. "I... saw Evan when I went home." He ran a hand through his hair, looking Merlin over. "You love Draco still? I know he's... who he is, but he does love you."

"No. You suggested inviting Theodore over so that you could pawn me off on him." Pansy informed Draco, frowning deeply. "So that you didn't have to worry about me and you could cuddle up to your boyfriend. I don't care, Draco. Just leave me alone. I won't be friends with someone who is being so selfish. You don't even care that I have a boyfriend. You wouldn't even listen to me today at lunch. You're not interested in me at all."

"Did you tell Evan? You know he'll be furious." Merlin frowned at that. "My life is enough of a mess without my uncle telling my mother I'm shagging you."

"That's not true, Pansy!" Draco insisted, shaking his head. "I've been sick all week worrying that I messed things up with Merlin or I would have been paying attention. I do care. I'm happy for you." He gave her a pleading look. "Please don't say you're not going to be my friend anymore. I need you."

"No, I didn't tell Evan," Lucius said, shaking his head. "I love him. I don't want us to break up." He moved closer to Merlin, touching his hand. "I certainly wouldn't want you to have to go through anything more than what you've had to already because of me." He raised Merlin's hand to his lips, kissing his palm. "I want you to be happy."

Pansy rolled her eyes. "If you needed me, you would have talked to me more this week than just at lunch." She pointed out. "You don't even know where I went on my first date. I try to be a really great friend for you, Draco. I listen to every little stupid complaint and worry you have. You don't do that for me." She felt herself start to cry. "Go back to your boyfriend."

Merlin bit his bottom lip and looked back at Lucius. He glanced at the doorway, then leaned in and kissed the other man softly before pulling back. "You made me happy. But, we can't continue it. Even if it does."

"I don't want to go back to my boyfriend now!" Draco insisted, panicking when Pansy started to cry. "I felt stupid about being worried about Merlin, okay? Just... Tell me where you went on your first date. Tell me your worries and complaints."

Lucius nodded. "I'm glad we're agreed," he said, rubbing his thumb against Merlin's cheek and then pulling away from him so they didn't get caught standing too close. "You should know, it made me happy too." He smiled at Merlin. "In another life, we would have been very good together."

"Well. That's too bad, isn't it?" Pansy asked, giving Draco an unimpressed look, tear sliding down her cheek. She stepped into the lift and hit the button for the ground floor, crossing her arms over her chest again.

"Maybe. Yeah." Merlin looked at Lucius, biting his bottom lip hard to keep from jumping the other man. "Suppose I should go back to school tomorrow. Can you write me an excuse, please?"

"Of course," Lucius said, smiling at Merlin. He wanted to touch him again, but he was restraining himself. He didn't want them to mess everything up. Their lives were complicated enough already without adding that in. "I'll make sure you don't get in any trouble for missing classes because of me."

Draco watched Pansy go, feeling terrible. Maybe she was right and he was a rubbish friend. He pulled out his phone, texting her another apology, and then headed back towards Merlin's flat. He'd run off without even really saying hello to his father. Draco pushed the door open. "I think Pansy and I just broke up."

	Merlin sighed and glanced at Draco for a moment. "Good." He told him, falling back onto the couch. "She won't come into my flat again. I see this as a win." He patted the couch beside him. "Come on. "It's not good," Draco said, shaking his head and moving to sit beside Merlin. "I don't understand why you're always so mean to her. You won, didn't you? I'm gay. I'm with you. Pansy's just like... my sister." He looked down at his phone in his hands. "And now she doesn't even want to be my friend." He felt sick to his stomach.

Lucius looked at the boys on the couch. He was doing his best not to feel too self-conscious about what he and Merlin had done there just the day before. Merlin calling him sir wasn't helping him forget. "Right," he agreed. "I'll talk to Pansy, Draco. Don't worry about her. Just... keep Merlin happy."

	Merlin sighed and kissed Draco's forehead. "I don't like her. It has nothing to do with you and her." He pointed out, shrugging. "Sure, she got in the way when we were kids, but she's such a bitch." "She's not a bitch. She's just mad at me for not defending her to you. She thinks I don't care about her problems and she's partially right. I wasn't listening when she was talking to me about her boyfriend because I was worrying about you." Draco sighed. "Sorry. I don't want to make things about me when you're having a rough time."

Lucius was a little surprised Draco was willing to put his self-created dramas aside, if he was being honest. He pulled out his phone, texting Pansy to ask if she needed to talk to a parent. He looked up at Merlin and gave him a soft smile. "Of course," he agreed. "May I suggest alcohol, chicken fingers, or cake? That's generally what gets used to help people feel better at our house. Thor works out, but that's Thor."

	Merlin sighed softly and pulled Draco into his lap, kissing him deeply. "I love you." He told him, playing with his hair. "I love you. And I need you to know that." He hugged him, closing his eyes.
