Merlin felt very content with Draco as his boyfriend again. And he'd become very happy with the way his life was going, even if he was working at a diner to try and support himself. He was working very hard on getting things that he needed and making sure that his bills were paid, even if Lucius was still paying most of them. One day, he'd have to repay the man for everything he'd given him, despite everything else.

But, Merlin had finally saved up the money he'd been trying to save since before he and Draco had broken up to buy him the ring he'd wanted to get for Draco. Even if they couldn't get married right now, he wanted the other boy to have it. He had it hidden in his pocket as he walked into the flat, smiling at Draco. "Did you cook dinner?"

	Merlin smiled at Draco. He liked the shocked look on his boyfriend's face. The ring was going to cost him a fortune, but Draco deserved it. Draco was his everything. Draco raised an eyebrow at that. "You got Pansy's permission?" he repeated, looking down at the ring. He couldn't help smiling, even if there was a tiny part of him feeling a bit like this made him out to be the girl or something. "How did you manage that?"

Draco kissed Merlin again, then took the ring out of the box and slid it onto his finger. "I better say yes now, before Pansy changes her mind."

	Merlin didn't think it made Draco seem like the girl. He thought it was more of him just being ready to ask him. He smiled at him and laughed. He'd had to promise Pansy very many things. "Well. Draco laughed at that, wrapping his arms around Merlin and nodding in agreement. "I'll marry you," he promised, leaning in for another kiss. "Try not to do anything that lets Pansy kick you. I like your dick the way it is."

He pressed Merlin up against the counter, smiling against his lips. "Did you tell my mother you were going to ask me? We can tell her and Thor when we see them this weekend. We're going to get married."

	"No. I didn't get around to asking your mother. I asked my mother, though." Merlin told him with a laugh and then kissed Draco softly. Draco had said yes to her proposal. Draco smiled at that, humming against Merlin's lips and kissing him again. "You thought of everything. You know how I feel about chocolate. I love you too."

He pulled away. Really, Draco just wanted his father to know that he hadn't ruined him and Merlin. They were happy. They'd stay happy. Draco would make sure of it this time.

Draco was holding Merlin's hand when he opened the door to the house and almost ran straight into his father. He looked up, blinking in surprise, and did his best not to seem too shocked to see him actually... around. "Lucius."

Lucius did his best not to wince when he son called him by his first name. "I was just going out," he said, trying not to look at Merlin either. He was still paying most of their bills. Eventually things would be good, right?

	Merlin was doing his best not to look at Lucius either. Even if he loved Draco more than anything, it still kind of hurt to think of how Lucius had treated him. Draco stared his father down for a moment, then looked at Merlin and smiled. "You might as well stay to hear our announcement," Draco told his father, walking past him, into the sitting room. "Mum, we have news."

"News?" Narcissa was glad neither of them was a girl. It couldn't be a baby before she managed to get pregnant again. She reached out to touch her son's hand and then froze. "You're engaged?"

Draco looked down at his hand and laughed. "Yeah," he said. "I guess I should have hid this better. Merlin proposed."

Lucius hovered in the doorway, trying not to be too noticeable because one of Narcissa's rules was him respecting Merlin and Draco's space. They were getting married?

	Merlin smiled at Narcissa and nodded. "I'm sorry I didn't get around to asking you if it was okay, but Pansy was on board for it. And she's a tough crowd." He smiled at Narcissa, hoping she wouldn't get too upset. Thor wrapped an arm around Narcissa's waist and kissed her neck. "That's wonderful, Draco. You deserve your happiness." Narcissa wasn't upset, just surprised. If Thor had proposed to her at Draco's age -- or been able to -- she would have said yes too. "Yes," she said, smiling at them. "I'm glad you got Pansy to come around, Merlin. That's wonderful for both of you."

Lucius wasn't so sure. He frowned a bit. "Don't you think they're a bit young?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. "They're teenagers."

Thor frowned at Lucius. This wasn't a place where it was okay for the other man to interrupt. He shook his head. "I think you've caused enough problems for them, Lucius. Draco and Merlin being able to love each other, even through hard times, is a great showing of their strength as a couple."

Merlin looked at Lucius and frowned for a moment, then held onto Draco's hand. "I love him. I've loved him my entire life and nothing is going to stop me from being with him."

Draco smiled at Merlin. This was sort of why he'd told his father to stick around. He wanted to rub his face in this. He and Merlin were fine. They were good, even. Better than before and stronger. "We know what we're doing now," he agreed. "We love each other and we're going to be together."

Lucius hated how everyone was always against him now. Merlin hadn't been happy. Lucius wasn't a rapist. He sighed and shrugged, moving away from the wall. "I'm leaving," he said. "I know when I'm not welcome."

Merlin smiled and shrugged it off, then kissed Scorpius softly. This was going to happen and everyone who was important was okay with it. His life was finally going the way he wanted it to go.

Merlin was having a pretty good time. His grades weren't slacking because of his job and now he had another, better job. He came into the flat and smiled at Draco, holding up a bottle of whiskey.

"I have great news." Merlin told him. "A man came into the diner today and told me I was attractive. He wants me to work in his shop selling antiques. It's better pay."

Draco looked up from doing homework and frowned at that. "A man came into your shop, told you you were attractive, and offered you a job?" he repeated. Did Merlin not see the problem with that? Putting side the possibility of cheating, there was the possibility of Merlin being sexually harassed or worse.

"Is he old?" he asked, frowning a bit. "Is he at least extremely unattractive? Is that really the way of telling me you got a new job offer that you thought was best?"

Merlin hadn't thought about that. He didn't think that Draco should be jealous. He walked across the room and slid into Draco's lap, kissing him deeply and smiling against his lips.

"Draco. I love you with all my heart and you will never, ever have to worry about me again. We're getting married." He pecked a kiss to his lips again. "His name is Arnie and he's eight-five years young and has a wife named Tullah who is just as old. They just said that they had no children and the store needs a younger, more attractive face to bring in customers."

Draco frowned a bit. He still didn't like the idea of Merlin working for someone who'd called him attractive. "They're old. Shouldn't they think everyone is young and attractive? Why are they hitting on my fiance?"

He pulled Merlin a bit closer. "If it pays better, you should take it. But I want to come and examine the place when you start working there. I don't trust them."
