Thoreau wasn't sure he knew how to handle the way his life was going now. He wasn't on drugs. He hardly drank. He never missed his classes and he actually studied for his tests and did his homework because it just... seemed like the thing to do. His uncle's death was hard, but Rex seemed happy in America in his emails, and Rex being away meant that Thoreau couldn't slip up and go out partying with him.

Everything was good. Nice. Just... maybe a little bit... boring. Thoreau closed his book after reading the same sentence three times. "Do I really need A-levels to open a restaurant?" he asked, looking across the room at Rooney.

"I... It's nothing." Rooney shook his head and tucked the letter into his shirt pocket. "It's not anything important. Just a letter from a university."

He got up from the bar and walked around, kissing Thoreau. "What's for dinner?"

"A letter from a university? Which one?" Thoreau asked, feeling a bit nervous. He'd just... prefer it if Rooney ended up close. King's College or something, maybe. "Is it good news?"

He kissed Rooney back. "I was thinking I'd make a lamb roast tonight. With potatoes and then some roast vegetables for me and Dad."

Rooney rubbed his hips against Thoreau's bum. He was trying to distract him so that this would go over slightly more easily. He smiled at him and bit at his neck playfully. "That sounds really good."

He rubbed against him more firmly. "I got accepted to York for their history programme.

Thoreau was enjoying being touched by Rooney, but not quite enough to miss where Rooney had gotten accepted. "York?" he repeated, twisting out of Rooney's grasp so he could look up at him.

"But York is all the way in York." Rooney was going to go to university and he'd find some super smart boy who didn't get bored and had never had a drug problem and that would be it. "Is it... a good programme?"

Rooney gave Thoreau a sad look and shook his head. "I said not to worry about it. It's not a big deal. I don't have to go all the way to York."

Even if he really wanted the opportunity, he wouldn't go. He wouldn't leave Thoreau. "I'll just go to Kings Cross or something."

Thoreau didn't want to stop Rooney from going to a really good program. Rooney always took care of him. Maybe it was Thoreau's turn to take care of the other boy. "Don't say that."

He pressed closer to Rooney again, kissing his chin. "It it's a great school, you should go. As soon as I'm out of college I'll be able to be wherever you are. I could come live in York too. It'd only be a year. More like eight months, right? And you'd be home for Christmas."

"What about you, though?" Rooney asked as he looked at Thoreau, frowning a bit. He didn't want Thoreau to throw away his life and not do what he wanted to do either.

"How many culinary schools are there in York?" He asked, arching a brow.

Thoreau shrugged a bit, pressing close to Rooney. "I don't know. I've never looked into schools in York. They might have something."

He slid a hand under the back of Rooney's shirt. "We can worry about that after. When it comes to it. You might decide you don't like going to York after you spend a year there."

Rooney held Thoreau close and kissed him softly. He knew what Thoreau was trying to do. Trying to persuade him not to worry about it with sex.

He kissed him again, then pulled back. "You've got to make dinner and I've got to write an essay."
