Dudley had never been to New York before, but he and Romy were going to America to visit Rex and Rider and their baby. Romy had been wanting to do it for ages and Dudley had saved up the money and surprised her with plane tickets for her birthday, so now they were doing Christmas in New York City. There was a baby and gay porn stars involved, but it was still going to be the most romantic trip ever. Dudley was counting on it.

He was all bundled up in his winter coat and scarf as he and Romy rode the lift up to the top of the Empire State Building. "Are you going to be warm enough at the top?" he asked, looking down at his girlfriend who he was about to try and make his fiance. "I could give you my scarf."

"No, I'm not. I'm on sabbatical," Walden told Pyxis, looking down at her and her belly. He smiled to himself. She was so beautiful. "Stop frowning at me, Pyxis. I should be frowning at you. You're pregnant and you never said anything."

He got to his knees, reaching out to touch her hand. "I'm in love with Thailand and in love with you and I want to be here. I want to be part of our baby's life."

Pyxis could feel herself starting to tear up and it wasn't fair. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, giving him a sad look after a moment. She had done everything that she could do in order to keep him away and yet, he just kept coming back.

"I don't want to ruin your life." Pyxis told him quietly. "I was... I was going to tell you. Eventually. I was just not sure how to go about it."

"Ruin my life?" Walden shook his head, crawling into the tent with her. "Pyxis, is your life ruined because you're not a police inspector?" he asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

He kissed her temple. "You're more important to me than a job teaching. Besides, it's not like I'll never teach again. We'll home school our son. I can help out by teaching under privileged kids in the places we visit to earn us some extra money. I want this. I want you and the baby and this life. I'm old enough to make my own decisions, don't you think?"

	Pyxis couldn't help but feel pathetic about the whole situation. And she really just wanted to cry and do nothing else, which she blamed on the hormones. "I've had time to think since then," Walden said, shrugging. "I've been thinking about a lot of things. Like how much I love you. How much I want this. This life with you." He smiled down at her. "I love you, Pyxis. Sometimes change is good. Sometimes change is amazing."

He reached into his pocket, pulling out the ring he'd bought her. It wasn't much, but he thought Pyxis would like it. "If you really want to make me happy, marry me."

Pyxis stared down at the ring for a moment. It was the most beautiful ring that she'd ever seen in her life and she wanted to wear it. She wanted it on her finger right now. No questions about it.

Walden wanted her. He actually wanted her for keeps. He wanted to marry her. She loved him so much. "I love you." She whispered, then held out her hand to him as she started to cry. "Are you sure?"

Walden smiled down at Pyxis. "We are," he agreed. "We're going to be a family. We're going to have everything we ever dreamed of having together. I promise."

It had taken a while to find someone who could actually preform a marriage ceremony for them. Walden had to help Pyxis down the beach she was so heavily pregnant, even if they were only five months in. He was beaming though. They were together and getting married and everything was perfect. He used his phone to call his mother and gran every week and they were happy for him and everything.

"Are you ready to be married to me?" he asked, looking down at her and smiling. "This is your last chance to back out."

"My coward days are over, Macnair. You're not getting away from me now. Not after all this." Pyxis leaned in and kissed him softly, leaning against him because she felt so heavy on her feet.

Rabastan had left Walden behind, but he wanted to be there for Pyxis's wedding. And if he'd brought Walden, he couldn't bring Walden's gran and his mother like he had. He smiled at the couple as he found them on the beach, his arm looped with Walden's grandmothers. "Are we too late?"

Walden looked over at Rabastan, standing there with his mum and gran, and let out a delighted laugh. "Gran! Mum!" He moved forward, hugging Rabastand and his grandmother together. "You're not too late at all. We were just about to start." He pulled back so he could beam down at them. "The shaman is on his way."

"Shaman," Arabella repeated, laughing to herself. "This is all so exotic." She hugged Walden back, then turned her attention to Pyxis. "You're so far along already! Come here, Pyxis. Let me give you a hug too."

Pyxis looked at Rabastan, then hugged Arabella as close as she could with a baby in her belly. "I'm only five months. Macnair's are very big babies. Luckily, I had a Macnair baby for my brother and his boyfriend, so I'm ready for it."

Rabastan smiled at Walden and kissed his cheek. "We'll be staying in Thailand for a few days, if you want to spend some time with us. I got us a nice hotel. Your Gran is a firecracker."

Arabella rubbed Pyxis's belly and smiled at her. "I'm glad you know what to expect. We brought lots of Walden's old baby things with us so you could have them. We thought you might have some trouble finding clothes to fit the baby if he comes out as big as Walden did."

Walden laughed at that. "I'm glad you got a hotel for her and Mum. I'm not sure Mum would take to staying on the beach. You're never all that clean." He walked over to his mother, kissing her forehead and hugging her. "I'm glad you came, Mum. I really wanted you here. I'm getting married."

Pyxis smiled and touched her stomach. "He's actually a lot smaller than Xavier was. Xavier is so big already." She told her and then looked at Walden. "Thank you." She told her, looking back at the woman. "For letting me marry him."

Betty smiled at her son and leaned in, kissing his cheek. "I'm glad that I could be here for you. Your step father was very persuasive when he showed up with brownies he'd baked at the shelter."

"Honey, even if we wanted to stop Walden from marrying you I don't think we could," Arabella said, shaking her head. "He's had his heart set on you since the two of you first met. We're just happy you're finally getting together. And with a baby on the way too. It's delightful."

Walden laughed a bit at that. "Rabastan's an amazing chef," he said. "I'm glad you and gran got to try some of his cooking." He looked up when the spotted the shaman who was marrying him and Pyxis walking up to them. "I think the wedding's about to start," he said. He hugged his mother again. "Thank you for coming."

Walden stared at Pyxis for a moment, then looked down at the wet patch of sand under her. "Fuck," he said, doing his best not to panic. "Are you -- What do we do?" He looked around at the other people standing around them. "How do we do this?" Pyxis had done this before. He hadn't.

Arabella moved in to help Pyxis, laughing to herself. "Your baby is impatient to get here," she said. "Walden came early too and he was fine. Why don't we get you to lay down somewhere and we'll finish the ceremony that way?"

"I just need you to hold my hand and let someone who knows what they're doing help." Pyxis kissed Walden as she adjusted on the pillows, taking a deep breath. She felt crazed. "And just love me."

Pyxis was so tired. She'd pushed a baby out of her vagina. Even if he wasn't as big as Xavier had been, it had still hurt. She looked down at the baby laying on the blankets beside her.

"Being a woman is a lot of work." Pyxis told Walden, looking up at him.
