Application Post
So, you want to apply to [info]marvel_nextgen? Great!

A few things first.

Alternate Universe and Time displaced kids are welcome. As are totally original characters. Not every mutant or Avenger is going to have parents that were mutants or Avengers. So feel free to use your imagination!

While we gladly accept applications for X-Men and Avengers, we encourage applications for Eternals, Defenders, Inhumans, Asgardians, and other characters off the beaten path.

We also welcome Canon kids. IE Franklin Richards, Luna Maximoff and older versions of any super kid. Like say, Power Pack, Valeria Richards, Kevin Masterson, Ahura Boltagon and the like. Also adult versions of any Canon Teenagers are welcome. As are canon characters and villains in their adult incarnations. (Ie: Julian Keller, Kate Bishop, Tommy Shepherd, Billy Kaplan, Nico Minoru...)

We're taking advantage of the wonderful sliding timeline policy of Marvel, so if your character's birth date/age doesn't quite work out, it can easily be modified.

Please give us at least 24 hours to look at your application. We will email you when the app is approved. Once it's accepted, you can jump right in. If we have any problems or questions with any applications we'll contact you for clarification.

In some situations a sample with another player may be required.

The game focuses on the next generation of heroes and the kids are the ones out being the superheroes. The adults for the most part are starting to retire and passing the torch to the kids, so if you are looking to play an adult, be advised that in this game they are mostly support roles and plot devices.

The process:
The first step is to fill out an application.(Please check with the team admin to see if there is room on the team you want to join)
Your application will be reviewed by the mods.
In the case that you are applying for a character on a team, the application will be reviewed by the team members.
If your character is related to another character in the game, the relatives will also get to review the app.
A mod will notify you if it has been accepted, declined or if more information is needed.
The mods may ask you to clarify certain things (concept, powers, purpose) in your app. This is nothing personal, it is just the mods and team members trying to better understand the app.

Some basic rules:

1. If you are apping a sibling/parent of a character in the game, the player(s) of those characters get approval/veto rights on the app. We require you to discuss the character idea with the other players before apping the character you want to play. If you don't know who is playing a certain character please ask a mod. The list of characters and their relatives is here

2. If you are apping a cousin or other distant relative to a character/characters already in game, the player(s) of the character gets to review the app and provide feedback.

If you can't contact a player, feel free to contact the mods and we'll answer any questions you have!

3. Please do not give names, gender or ages to siblings of canon-pairing characters. This is to allow greater flexibility for people interested in picking up a sibling or parent. A vague reference like "Character X has three other siblings." is fine.

It is okay to give names, gender and ages to siblings of characters who have non-canon parents.

4. Apping Characters just to "hook up with someone" - Please do it somewhere else. This is a game for people who are interested in more than just hooking their character up with another character. While it is natural for characters to start dating and otherwise participate in physical relationships, it should not be the main purpose of the character and it is not the main focus of the game.

We accept applications for heroes, villains, parents and other adults.

We will accept applications for Original NPCs (Next generation of - Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Masters of Evil, Serpent Societly, MLF, etc) seen here.

Notes:
Xavier's is not publicly known as a place for mutants. There is an underground in place to direct mutants to Xavier's.

Avengers are listed in the phone book and publicly known. Characters can directly contact them.

OC App
Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Dylan
Email: you've got it
AIM (if you have one): you've got it
Character Name: Jessica Morgan (aka Photon)
Character LJ (if applicable): glowstick_girl
Physical description (face, build, weight): Jessica appears to be about 5 ft 7 inches, slender build, with dark hair. When she concentrates on being solid, she weighs about 115 lbs.
Age: 16
PB: Nina Dobrev

Abilities: Jessica's powers have transformed her from flesh and blood into a living mass of photons. Under normal circumstances, she would resemble nothing more than a glowing ball of light, but through concentration she can maintain her normal appearance. She is normally intangible and has to concentrate to be solid. As living light, she has the power of flight, the ability to project laser blasts and flares, reshape her appearance in anyway she designs, create holograms, create solid light constructs.

Weaknesses and flaws: Jessica is not particularly good at using her abilities yet and considers them (except for flying) to be a curse. She has no sense of smell, no sense of taste, and no sense of touch. Refractory materials can be used to disrupt her light matrix and she must concentrate to be solid. It is unknown what affect power dampening technology would have on her.

Character location/Home: Xaiver's
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Walter and Linda Morgan

Backstory: Prior to her fifteenth birthday, Jessica's biggest worry was passing Algebra. Then, when her powers violently manifested and she nearly destroyed the girls' locker room of her school, things went from bad to worse. At first, it was just uncontrolled light blasts, sometimes just bright, sometimes heat as well. But those manifestations hurt. Like her body was trying to burn itself out from the inside.

Eventually, a powerful manifestation of her abilities destroyed her physical body entirely. But she did not die, instead surviving as living light, a light matrix containing her consciousness. Her own parents were afraid of her, convinced she was a ghost. She had little choice but to run away from home.

Life on the streets was hard, but not as hard as it could have been. She felt no pain from the elements, never got hungry (she never had to eat), never needed to use the bathroom. Her biggest worry was simply drifting apart and slowly going out of her mind from lack of sleep. She was eventually found by the X-Men, who have helped her gain some measure of control over her abilities and provided her with an opaque sleeping chamber that she can use so she does not break apart while asleep.

But Jessica hates what she is. She desperately wants to be normal. To see her family again, even if they consider her dead. She can't even cry about her fate. No organs, no tear ducts.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: She'll have been at Xaiver's a short amount of time prior, just not seen before on camera.

What are you planning to do with this character? I'd like to play around with the idea of a powerful mutant (which I admit she is), who also totally hates being a mutant. Too many of our x-peeps are far to accepting of who they are. We need x-angst.

What do you want to see happen with this character?: Jessica will slowly start to come out of her shell, and grow closer to others, and maybe start to accept herself.

Sample post: pending

The sun was shining and it was a spectacularly warm day, but she couldn't tell.

A gentle breeze carried the smell of flowers across the lawn, but she couldn't tell.

It wasn't until you stopped doing them that you realized how much you could possibly miss things like feeling or smelling or tasting. It wasn't until you stopped doing all the little tasks that made up a day that you realized how many hours there were to fill. She didn't--couldn't--eat, didn't need to use the bathroom, didn't breathe. She never needed to bathe, didn't even need to comb her hair. She never had to shop for clothes (everything she wore was just a hologram, shaped light, just as her own appearance really was).

...She would never even get to have sex. She would never have children. And what guy would even want to kiss a girl who didn't feel like a real girl, who was just a solid mass of light, not flesh and blood? She wouldn't feel anything other than a faint pressure sensation along with photonic field anyway.

About the only normal human thing she could still do was sleep. And even that required a specialized isolation pod, that was purged from all exterior light and was the only thing keeping her from simply dispersing into random light particles while her mind was not focused.

Professor Xaiver said she was likely an omega-level mutant, or a very high end Alpha. Potentially one of the most powerful light manipulators on Earth.

But she didn't care. She just wanted to be human. To have her life back. But that was impossible. She'd literally burned herself out of her body, seen in lying charred on the floor. Seen her parents' panic, seen their fear.

Not far down on the lawn, some of the other students were playing touch football. One of them spotted her and tried to wave her over.

She shook her head. They tried to make her feel welcome... but nothing could change the fact that even among freaks, she was the queen freak.
