Charlotte missed Bruno. The worst part of him being locked up was being alone in the house all the time, and now she'd given him her stuffed unicorn so she didn't even have that to cuddle with. She'd thought about moving back home until Bruno got out, but she didn't like the idea of leaving the house empty for weeks either.

So she'd done the logical thing and got a puppy, except now her puppy was free in the park and having way too much fun to come back when Charlotte called him, and chasing him just made him skip away happily. "Bertie, come back!" she called, and then Bertie was coming to a stop in front of someone and looking up at the stranger happily and then realized that it wasn't a stranger, it was Jaden, and this was incredibly awkward. "I -- Hi," she said, running her fingers through her hair to straighten it out.

Charlotte looked down at Bertie's little tail wagging happily as Jaden scratched his ears. "He's working on getting better," she said. "He doesn't want to be the way he is. He just needs some support so he can get out of the hospital and start living his life again."

She looked up at Jaden, smiling. "I think my puppy likes you. He's very friendly. She leaned down and kissed the top of Bertie's head. "If I live alone, I start feeling like I'm being haunted so Bertie's my protector now."

That's why she's always sleeping with Rider. Because she can't control it." His eyes moved to the puppy in her arms and he shrugged. "He's cute. His eyes are huge, though." 	"I know that," Charlotte said quietly. "My mum has an eating disorder. It's not the same thing, but it's similar. I know mental illness isn't something you can just turn off, but they're going to help him and Bruno will get out and things will be better." She kissed Bertie again. "I like his big eyes. 	Jaden snorted at that. He'd lay off the Bruno thing for now. But, he didn't want to see her get hurt again. He leaned in and kissed her forehead, then took a step back, not wanting her to think he was pushing her. "I miss you." Jaden told her. "I miss you too," Charlotte told Jaden, looking up at him. "I didn't think you'd want to hear from me, honestly. I was a complete bitch to you. If you wanted to carve me out of your life it would make sense."

She smiled, putting Bertie down and reattaching his lead. "Do you maybe want to go get coffee?" Charlotte asked. "We could catch up on the normal stuff in our lives."

"Okay, we'll get lunch," Charlotte said, laughing and starting towards the street. "You can eat food and I can have coffee and a sandwich or something less huge sounding than a thick, juicy cheeseburger and bottomless chips covered in cheese."

She glanced at Jaden and his arms and chest. "It's a good thing you work out and you've got your natural metabolism on your side. You'd be able to roll me around if I ate like you."

"I go for runs," Charlotte said, scooping Bertie up and putting him in her bag. There was no way she was leaving her puppy tied up outside somewhere. "I've been thinking about getting a part-time job somewhere to keep me busy."

She walked into the diner, taking a seat at a booth and putting Bertie down beside her. "Maybe taking dance classes or something. I hate being home alone all the time."

"I've been seeing Elodie a lot, but she works nights," Charlotte said, and laughed at his suggestion. "I'd be a terrible stripper. I don't have any boobs."

She smiled at the waitress when she poured them both a cup of coffee. "Scorpius and Albus are a big ball of drama right now. I don't want to touch that. And Cepheus is marrying James." Charlotte shook her head. "I love my cousins, but I didn't think James would get married first."

She took a sip of her coffee and laughed. "Ew. Can't it just be true love conquering all? I bet Cepheus will have a great wedding, though. He has great taste and no budget."

Charlotte looked down at her coffee when Jaden said he didn't get to touch her breasts enough, reaching out and petting Bertie in her bag. "Nobody really touches them now. Just me."

She grinned at Jaden. "I don't know. He's pretty little and fashionable. Maybe not the same way Scorpius is, but still. He did that magazine shoot with all those boys where he was in a tiny speedo on the cover. That's pretty gay."

"Well, okay. Cepheus is definitely taller than me, but still. It's not like he's all muscular like you are," Charlotte pointed out. "James is buffer than he is too, but I guess he's a professional athlete."

She took a sip of her coffee as Jaden's food arrived. "Scorpius is tall. And he looks like he'd blow over in a stiff breeze. Sometimes I'm jealous of models, but then I think about my mum." Charlotte shook her head. "I'd never want to be like that."

Charlotte took the phone from Jaden, staring at the photo of him and his muscles for a moment. "I... That's true," she said, pulling her eyes off of Jaden's abs. It was not good to think about how attractive her ex was when she had a boyfriend. "You look really good."

She pulled away from the phone, reaching over and petting Bertie. He was the only man she needed in her life until Bruno got out. She was a good girl. "I didn't know you modeled. When was that?"
