"Are you trying to terrify me on purpose or is it just kind of happening?" Scorpius asked, eying the piles and piles of wedding... stuff that Cepheus had spread out over his and James's flat. Scorpius didn't have any work to do, so he'd shown up to try and help Cepheus get stuff together. Especially since he and Albus were engaged and eventually they were going to have to have a wedding too.

He set down the coffee and sweets he'd picked up on the way over next to Cepheus, then took a seat with him on the couch. "Like marriage isn't scary enough without all this... research and paperwork involved too."

"I think I can handle all that," Scorpius said, smiling at Cepheus. "You should let Lala be part of the wedding. You'll be able to make her dress up nicely. It'll be a nice change, although I think Rex is a positive influence on her. She's been wearing real pants and sweaters that fit lately."

James found suit shopping a lot less fun without Cepheus, even though he knew it was more efficient to do it by himself. He walked into the flat holding a couple bags from Harrods and smiled when he saw Cepheus and Scorpius sat around a table full of cake. "Samples came? I hope you saved me some. I'm starving. I went right from practice to pick out my suit." He walked up to Cepheus, kissing him softly and then stealing his fork. "Let me dig in."

	Cepheus laughed at James and kissed him back. "You're going to get fat if all you eat is cake." He took the fork back from him and dug it into the strawberry cake James had requested, then shoved it into his boyfriend's mouth. "Scorpius likes this, but I enjoy the chocolate with the orange zest." He informed him. "Albus is coming by in an hour with dinner." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

James chewed the cake, humming as he swallowed. "I work out for at least two hours a day. I don't think I'm in danger from eating wedding cake samples. I'm only going to be doing this once." He kissed Cepheus's neck, sitting beside him and reaching over to try the chocolate and orange.

"This is good too," he agreed, nodding. "I don't know. Is there a chocolate and strawberry option so we can compromise?"

"Just do alternating layers," Scorpius said, shaking his head. "It's what I was telling Cepheus to do before we got distracted by other things. How many people are you inviting to this wedding?"

	"Somewhere around three-hundred?" Cepheus glanced up at James and nodded. "Once you invite everyone from James's very large family, you've got around two-hundred people. And then with my friends and family it's another one." Albus came into the flat after knocking and glanced around, putting the bags down on the table. He kissed Scorpius softly. "I brought food." Scorpius kissed Albus back. "Cepheus was just terrifying me about the whole wedding thing," he said. "Apparently we have to invite, like, three-hundred people when we get married. At least we'll get to have cake samples."

"Having three hundred people at your wedding isn't so bad," James said, shrugging and grabbing the food, opening the containers and digging in with his cake fork. "I'm starving. You and Al won't have to invite my entire football team, my coaches, and their families. That'll cut down your guest list."

	Albus shrugged. "We can elope and then have a huge wedding for everyone when we're ready." He told him, sitting down beside Scorpius. He dug out some of the food and held a container out to his brother. "It's not that big of a deal." Cepheus arched a brow at that. "It's not. It's just your wedding. It's not important, right?" "I'd rather elope than have some huge ceremony," Scorpius said, shrugging as he ate some more of the cake. "I mean, except for the wedding cake thing. I definitely want to sample wedding cakes. But other than that... why should it be anybody else's business but ours?"

"Grandmum will kill you if you get eloped, Al," James said, shaking his head as he took the container of food from his brother. "Getting married is a big deal. Do you really want to show your kids some photo of the two of you in Vegas or something?"

"You're giving us kids now?" Scorpius asked, raising an eyebrow at James. "We've been engaged for a week and together for three. It's a little early for kids. I don't even know if I want kids."

Albus looked at Scorpius sadly for a moment. "You don't..." That bothered him. Why wouldn't Scorpius want kids? "I thought that you'd said... Nevermind. I have to go to the bathroom." He replied before he stood up and walked up the stairs.

Cepheus chewed at his bottom lip for a moment. "It's kind of Albus's thing, Scorp. He's wanted kids since we were kids. How could you not know that?"

"I -- it's not like I said I don't want them for sure," Scorpius said, looking at Cepheus and James for a moment, then running a hand through his hair. "I need to go after him."

He got up and went up the stairs, knocking on the door to the bathroom. "Albus, I didn't..." Scorpius trailed off. It wasn't like he hadn't meant it. He wasn't sure. Scorpius pressed his forehead to the door. "I'm just feeling overwhelmed right now. Like everyone is expecting us to be exactly like Phe and James and I'm just... so not ready for that. I never had a boyfriend I cared about before you. I never sat around discussing kids and a future and a house with anyone like you have, okay?"

James pulled a face when Scorpius left to chase down Albus. "That's not going to be fun," he said, digging into the food Albus had brought them. "I see why you bet against Scorpius saying yes to Al's proposal."

"Yes you have." Albus told Scorpius as he leaned against the sink, looking down at the running water. He closed his eyes and sighed softly, turning the water off. He leaned back against the door. "We used to talk about it when we were younger. We talked about the kids we'd have."

"My brother is an idiot." Cepheus shook his head and sighed. "It's like.. I'm always afraid he'll never learn to compromise."

"Okay, when I was thirteen and hoping you liked me as much as I liked you, we talked about the kids we'd have. That's not the same thing as you and Kit doing it, Albus." Scorpius lifted his head so he could bang it against the door lightly. "I just... I'm sorry. I want to do all that stuff. All the couple stuff we never got to do before. I want to be able to be young and in love before we get married and have kids."

"If he breaks Al, I'm punching him," James said firmly. "You can hit me for it after if you want to, but I have to look out for my little brother. Even if he doesn't want me looking out for him."

Albus closed his eyes, feeling tears spring to his eyes. He didn't want to hurt anymore. Things weren't allowed to go bad like they'd been before. "So take off your ring." He told him quietly. "If you didn't want to get married to me, you should have said something."

"I don't think I'd hit you after that." Cepheus shook his head. "Sometimes I wonder if I was a better friend to Albus than Scorpius ever was."

Take off his ring? Scorpius felt a thrill of fear run through him. "No," he said, quickly. "No, Albus, that's not what I meant at all." He was doing everything wrong again, just like last time, and it was all going to come apart. "I love you," Scorpius said quietly. "I want to marry you, Alby. I want to do everything on Earth with you. I just don't want to skip this part on the way there. The part where we go on dates and I visit you at school and we're young and in love. I don't want to jump right to married with kids like James and Cepheus. I'm ready to be engaged, but I'm not ready for that."

James raised an eyebrow at Cepheus. "Well, it's hard to be a good friend to someone when you want in their pants, that's for sure. Scorpius's opinions wouldn't be unbiased. You're the one Albus took ring shopping. Of course, I guess taking Scorpius would have ruined the surprise."

"Being married to me isn't going to mean that we're not young and in love. I never said I had to have kids right now." Albus told him, shaking his head, even if Scorpius couldn't see him. "You made it seem like you'd never want them and like I was pushing you into this."

"Definitely would have ruined the surprise. And I was always good friends with people I wanted to fuck." Cepheus pointed out. "Except for you. I hated you. Still kind of do." He tilted his head and gave James a serious look, then snorted.

"I didn't mean it like that," Scorpius promised. "I don't feel like you're pushing me at all, Alby. We talked about waiting to get married. Neither of us seems to want a massive bohemian fairytale wedding like our brothers are having. It's just James and Cepheus. My mum and Toni, sometimes. All talking about the way things are going to be. It was a knee-jerk reaction to James pushing his idea of what we should be doing onto us. I'm sorry."

James gave Cepheus a fond look when he said he still kind of hated him, leaning in to kiss him softly. "You're cute when you hate me," he said. "Especially with all that blond hair. You know you've got a post-it in it?"

"You freaking out about what other people are saying is really stupid." Albus pushed open the door, frowning at Scorpius. "You'd rather freak out about it and hurt my feelings in the process for no good reason. Who cares what James says? If you're going to act like this, I'm going to wish I never proposed in the first place."

Cepheus grumbled, reaching up to feel at his hair. "There are post-it's everywhere. You could probably find them in more interesting places if I wasn't so tired."

"I know," Scorpius said quietly, looking down at his hands. "I know it's stupid. I just get scared. You were with Kit for so long and you had your entire future planned out and I don't even know what I want to study in school. Or even if I'm going to end up going to school. I'm sure about how I feel for you, but that's pretty much all the certainty I have."

James plucked the post-it from Cepheus's hair as gently as he could, laughing at him. "I'll go looking for them tomorrow, after you get some rest. You're sure you don't want to bring in help for this?"

Albus looked back at Scorpius and shook his head. "You don't have to go to school if you don't want to. You could do anything you wanted to do, Scorpius. So what if you're not Kit? Yes, I loved Kit. But, I love you more than I loved him. I just... never thought you wanted me. And now that I have you, I'm terrified of losing you."

Cepheus glared at James. "Stop suggesting that or I won't marry you at all. You're underestimating my abilities and I don't like it."
