Now that things were starting to calm down, Jude was looking forward to a real nights sleep, but mostly he was looking forward to continuing on with whatever he and Beckett had started what seemed like forever ago.

They'd agreed to have dinner, but both were so tired that staying in seemed like the best way to go, so Beckett had invited Jude over. Beckett had left a little while earlier, and after talking with Ally and Clark for a bit, Jude was ready to sneak out the door. He was hoping to avoid Agent Comfort, and so far he'd done a pretty damn good job of staying off of the Agent's radar. Or, rather, giving Cooper the slip at every oppurtunity.

He slipped into his office to secure his computer system and he was busy tugging on his peacoat and messenger bag at the same time while he tried to make a go for the elevator. He was in such a rush that he didn't even see Cooper until they'd run into eachother, and Jude reached out to steady the other man as soon as he'd recaptured his balance.

"Sorry, excuse me," he managed before he tried to slip past Comfort so that he could be on his way.

	Jude let out a soft laugh as he leaned back and hooked one of his hands into Beckett's. He tipped his head up and met the older man's eyes with a smile. "Do I get to stay the night?" he asked softly as he leaned in for a kiss. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Beckett dipped forward to kiss him, drawing it out a little to enjoy it thoroughly. "Yes, of course, if you'd like. I know I'd like." There was nothing he would appreciate more. The oven timer went off and he turned to open the door and grabbed an oven mitt to grab the tins out of the heat. He had plates ready to dish up the food. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Jude took their drinks to the dinner table, and when he got the opportunity to really see the dining room, he smiled. Beckett was really too sweet. "Are you sure you want coffee with dinner?" he asked as he slipped into the kitchen again. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Beckett glanced over his shoulder just so he could watch Jude leave the room. With a smirk, he nodded. "Yeah, I'm positive." Caffeine was definitely what he needed after a long work day if he was planning to get very little sleep--which he was. Not that he planned on taking advantage of Jude on the very first date, but he wanted to be able to stay up as long as possible and enjoy his company. Beckett may have been very healthy, but he was over 40 and sleep came quickly once 10 or 11 o'clock rolled around.

The dining room really was decked out. He wanted to make it look as if he hadn't spent a ton of time on it, but in truth he really had. Jude deserved a healthy dose of romance, especially after experiences falling in with the wrong sort of relationship. Beckett had every intention of proving over and over that he was the right type.

Jude smiled and leaned over to kiss the corner of Beckett's mouth before he waited for his plate. He'd always been an easy going type of person, but his crush on Beckett had made him nervous around the older man until the night they'd spent together. Now it was if a barrier had been broken, and it was easy for Jude to just open up and be affectionate in the ways he'd always wanted to be.

"Do you think Liam's all right? He seems all right to me, but that IA guy was asking questions. He caught me on my way out."

The new displays of affection had not been lost on Beckett; he loved every second of it. It was relieving to be able to touch Jude without worrying that he might pick up on his attraction.

Taking a drink from his coffee mug, Beckett frowned a little when Comfort was mentioned. He hadn't held back those cases without fully understanding that he was probably going to get called on it. It had been worth it not to protect the team from thinking about something other than getting Reagan back home. As far as Beckett saw it, Reagan's case deserved special attention because of his relationship with Liam. While Comfort saw that as unfair, Beckett saw it as a well earned perk of the job--if one could call rescuing their loved one from the clutches of evil a perk. "I think Liam is fine. He's an exceedingly professional individual, even in the face of intense adversity."

Jude valued Beckett's opinion, he had for a long while, and now even more so for obvious reasons. He carried his plate into the dining room and sat down, anxious to enjoy his meal and to spend time with the object of his affection.

"I kind of went off on him," he said quietly after a moment. He looked a little sheepish as he spoke. Jude was always so sweet and friendly to everyone, the idea that he'd been rude to someone bothered him a little.

Beckett tried not to laugh because he realized that Jude probably did feel pretty bad about it. But he tried to imagine Jude being jerky or threatening to anyone and the idea was preposterous. "I'm sure he's been through worse. No one likes a visit from internal affairs. He had to deal with Chancellor, didn't he? He has a thick skin, don't worry."

He started in on his food and then couldn't help but ask. "What did he ask you?"

"Things about Agent Connelly, Agent Montgomery, and you," Jude said honestly, because he wasn't about to lie to Beckett. "He wanted to know if any rules were broken, I guess. And if the last case received special attention because of Agent Montgomery's personal ties to it, if anyone or Montgomery thought he should have stepped down. If you had other more important cases that needed our attention."

"Nothing was more important than finding Reagan," he admitted. With a sigh, he tapped his fork on his plate, staring at it as it clinked against the ceramic. "I should have presented some other cases, but I didn't want him to have to think about anything else. I wanted him to let me worry about reassigning cases and the only way to do that was to not tell him. You know how Montgomery is." He was calm about it, even though he may have been in trouble.

	"I think your job is probably one of the most difficult," Jude said softly as he reached over to put his hand on top of Beckett's. "I couldn't make the decisions you make. Beckett turned his hand over beneath Jude's so that he could curl his fingers up and brush the tips against his wrist. "I love it though. I love it when I can make things easier for the team. Or when I can get the media under control or help get a family set up with victims' groups." It was all part of his liason role. "I really don't want to be transfered or fired." He wasn't sure how they'd handle this sort of thing, but he wasn't going to deny exactly what he'd done and why. He didn't believe it was wrong. Against protocol but not wrong.

Jude smiled at that soft brush of Beckett's fingertips against his wrist, and he leaned forward over the table to press a kiss to the other man's mouth.

"Lets hope it doesn't come down to either of those scenarios," he murmured before he sat back to take a bite. He inched one of his feet over to Beckett's and tapped his toes against the other man's. "You're an excellent cook," he grinned.

Being reassured by Jude meant a lot to him and he relaxed easily back into the evening. Wriggling his toes beneath Jude's, Beckett stared at him closely. "Oh yes, I slaved very hard over this meal. I do hope you appreciate it."

Part of him had the urge to eat fast just to get the table out from between them, but he also wanted to savor the time spent, so he slowed down. "I'm really glad things have settled down and you're here."

"Really?" He remembered back to that day. "Yeah, I was pretty floored when you walked in. You have no idea how much torture it was to hear about your dates." He was in the office quite a bit while the others were out working a case and he and Jude had talked a lot, so Beckett had heard about Jude's love life in those casual tidbits of information. It had killed him half the time, but he'd hidden it well.

Jude's cheeks flushed a nice shade of pink as he took a sip of his pepsi. Honestly, he was shocked that Beckett hadn't thought he was a tramp or something. Then again, Jude never talked about any sexual experiences he had while dating someone, but still, he dated a lot.

"I'm sorry," he said with a shy laugh as he put his chin in his free hand and looked over at Beckett. "I really had no idea."

	Beckett had filled in the gritty details in his mind, and he wasn't too proud of the fact that he'd certainly imagined Jude with his dates. It made him jealous, but he couldn't stop himself. He didn't have to do that anymore and it pleased him to no end. "I should have said something sooner," he laughed and offered a shrug. "Think of all the time I wasted." 	He nodded. "I'm definitely putting that on the agenda." Cuddling and making out. That wasn't going too fast, and that was Beckett's goal. Ultimately, he doubted he could hold off that long, but he was going to make a valient effort. Finishing off his plate, he leaned back in his chair. "Any other activity you'd like to put on there?" 	"Oh, there's a few I'd like to add, but maybe I should keep those to myself for now," Jude said with a smirk as he finished up his dinner. "I'm sure you can guess some, though," he added playfully while he got up to carry his dishes to the sink so that he could rinse them off and put them in the dishwasher. 	Beckett followed him into the kitchen and watched him clean up. "If you keep doing the dishes, you can borrow anything you want." He hated doing the dishes with a passion. "Oh really?" Jude asked with a grin as he took Beckett's plate away from him to rinse it off, too. "I think I'm getting the better end of that deal, just so you know."

He continued with cleaning up, which didn't take very long, and when he was done he washed his hands and dried them off before he went over to slip his arms around Beckett's waist.

"Pay up," he said softly as he leaned in for a kiss.
