To Mick
Misty Rains was the name she gave the woman who took her information. It was second nature to use that name instead of her real one. She knew that the agents upstairs would find out her real name because it was in the letter she had in her jeans pocket, but before she could correct herself the woman had called up to send someone down to fetch her. "Yes, she says she has information relating to the current DC shootings. No, she won't tell me exactly what but she says the local PD sent her here."

Brie shifted nervously from foot to foot, wondering if this was the right decision. Years ago, back in Texas, she'd had a stalker. Harmless, she thought. More of a secret admirer than something she feared. The incident never went reported and when she'd moved to Washington DC for school, she assumed that she'd left him behind. She hadn't even thought of him for years and wouldn't have if it hadn't been for the letter she'd received a couple days ago.

Given her own mother's history, it was difficult for Mick not to sympathize with Brie. For some reason, Mick felt a bit of an attachment towards the woman, and she couldn't quite put her finger on it. In her profession, that wasn't a good thing, and she knew it.

"That would be helpful, thank you," she said softly with a nod. She fished a card out of her wallet and handed it over after she'd scrawled her personal cell on the back of it. "This is my card, I want you to call me if you need anything. Or think of anything. Day or night, I mean it, all right?"

She took the card and held onto it tightly as she stared down at it. Flipping it over, she let her eyes linger over the woman's scrawl. "I like your 7's. You do them right." It was a weird thing to say, but it was the first thing to come to mind. If she'd met Mick in another situation, she would have tried to get her number. How funny it was that she'd gotten it anyway. She actually laughed and then felt embarrassed for the sound, which seemed really inappropriate for the moment. "Sorry," she said sheepishly. "I'm all over the place with demeanor right now...what does that say about me, oh wise behavior specialist?"

Mick smiled warmly, finding Brie's sheepish smile endearing. This woman was not your typical woman, Mick could tell. And it wasn't just because she was a prostitute. In fact, that was a small fact about Brie that was easy for Mick to push out of her mind.

"That says you're nervous, which is completely understandable," Mick replied. "It'll be all right. We're going to do everything we can to catch this guy and to keep you safe, all right?" she added as she reached out to gently touch the side of Brie's arm.

She really wanted to believe Mick. Never in her life had she been able to just put her problems on someone else and trust them to protect her. Even though the agent had said 'we'll' catch the guy, Brie imagined that it was only Mick that would be looking. It was kind of a silly notion, the whole white knight thing.

But the touch felt a bit thrilling and she didn't feel like recoiling at all. Normally she was quite sparing with her casual touch, but she welcomed the comfort from her. "Well then I'll check in with you and call you if I need something."

Mick drew her hand back and handed a pen and a pad of paper over to Brie. She wanted the woman's address and number so that she could keep in touch with her.

"Can you write down your number and address down for me? I just wanna keep in touch, make sure that you're safe."

She found herself missing the feel of Mick's hand there. For a moment, she just looked at the other. When the look drew out just a bit too long, she glanced down at the paper and wrote her cell on it as well as her landline. Then she scrawled her address in DC and it was located in a rather expensive end of town. She was high priced, though that lifestyle costed more and so her school loans weren't getting paid down and her mother's debt was keeping her in the life. She wasn't about to abandon the woman financially.

After, she stood up and reached for Mick's hand to shake it, but she ended up just kind of holding it. "You're really not what I expected. I can't get over it."

Mick had a feeling that she needed to be really careful with this one. She could easily sense that there was something there beyond just attraction, and that was a little bit unnerving. At the same time, it was nice to know she could feel something beyond just attraction for someone. It'd been such a long time since she had.

"What were you expecting, then?" she asked with a half smile as she kept a hold of Brie's hand.

"Someone with a stick up their ass, I guess," she said honestly. "Not someone i'd pursue at a bar." She didn't think it was a bad idea to be honest, though she wasn't really planning on going after Mick, even if she wanted to do so. "Anyway, thank you. I'm sure we'll see each other again."

The words made Mick smile, and she felt an odd flutter in her stomach that she hadn't felt since she was a teenager and had her first real girlfriend. She gently let go of Brie's hand, but only after giving it a squeeze.

"You're welcome," she said softly with a nod. "And yes, I'm sure we wil see eachother again."

Lingering for only a moment, she headed out of the office, thankful that at least her makeup hadn't run from the little bit of crying she'd done.
