Parker and Murphy were sound asleep, Elijah could tell. The sound of their breathing always let him know if they were awake or asleep. Parker had fallen asleep before Murphy had, and he'd been out for two hours now. Murphy for an hour. Everything in the house was silent. Though they were downstairs and a bit away from the house, Elijah could hear Adam's footsteps sometimes. If Adam was home, he usually had one of the three upstairs with him, too. The moment he heard footsteps he sat up on his bed and scooted to the edge, waiting to hear if Adam would come downstairs or not. It made him feel sick to his stomach that he often wanted to be the one Adam chose to take upstairs. It was the only time he was out of the cage, and his only sense of freedom, even if it wasn't real freedom at all.

The bed was exceptionally messy from his previous romp with Shay. The sheets were wadded up, twisted from the way Adam had used him, and now he was climbing into bed with Elijah. It didn't seem wrong to him at all.

Sensing that Elijah was distressed, he pulled him into an embrace. "You're worried about him. He fights harder than you've seen. It's all right; I promise that he'll come around eventually."

Elijah didn't want to let Adam comfort him, but he needed some sort of comfort and Adam was good at it. The man could be very charming when he wanted to be, and he was often so with Lijah. He let Adam hold onto him, and he sniffled a little bit.

"I just wish you two didn't have to fight," he mumbled. He wished Shay hadn't been hurt.

Adam kissed Elijah's head again and then his cheek as he stroked his hair. "Do you think he'll try to run?" He asked after a moment, wondering if Elijah had gotten any impressions from him in the time that he'd been awake. He would never admit to pitting the boys against each other, but he did realize that having more than one was often a good way of keeping them in line. It gave him bargaining chips, and everyone felt better when they had a family.

"I don't know," Elijah lied. If Shay was going to try and run, Elijah wanted him to have every advantage. "He didn't say much, he was kind of out of it. Confused. He was mostly worried that you planned on killing him. I told him you wouldn't." That was true, so he wasn't lying entirely.

Adam believed him because he had no reason not to believe Elijah. The boy was an angel as far as he was concerned. Feeling the weight of exertion hit his muscles, he exhaled a long breath, realizing just how exhausted he was.

"Help him adjust," he requested kindly as his eyes began to droop and he laid his head back against his pillow. After a moment, he kicked off his shoes and let them drop over the foot of the bed onto the floor.

Elijah had to arrange the covers, and he was well aware of what had probably happened in the bed with Shay. He rolled onto his side, so that he was facing Adam, and tucked an arm beneath a pillow. It smelled like Adam, and a little like someone else, and Lijah knew it must have been Shay. He turned his head and pressed his face in against the pillow for a moment before he relaxed again with a sigh. He could tell by Adam's breaths that the man was going to fall asleep soon, and he leaned over to kiss his cheek out of habit.

"Goodnight," he mumbled softly.
