To Elijah
Adam still held down a job through all of this. While his father had left him some money, it wasn't enough to keep up his extracurricular activities. He made good money as a general contractor and he was good at his job. So good, in fact, that many times his employer had asked why he didn't go into business for himself. Adam always passed it off, saying he didn't want the responsibility of owning a business. Really, he didn't want more time taken away from his passions at home, or the collecting of more. Today, he cut out early claiming he had a doctor's appointment. When he arrived home, he went downstairs and pulled Elijah gently from his cell to take him upstairs. He never expected the boy to struggle.

"I drew a bath for you," he said quietly, leading Lijah to the bathroom, smoothing a hand up underneath the boy's shirt so he could touch his back. It had been a couple days since Elijah had slept in Shay's cell. "Maybe this will help you sleep."

Elijah swallowed hard and bit down on his lower lip. It was difficult not to think of Shay, especially after what had happened between them when he'd slept in the other boy's cell. For the first time in a long time, the urge to shove Adam's hand away came flooding to the surface, but Elijah effectively pushed it back down. He turned his head to the side and tucked his chin down against his shoulder as Adam kissed at his cheek. His breaths grew a little short, because no matter how much he didn't want what Adam was doing to feel good, it did.

Adam always treasured Elijah's seeming willingness and his hand sped up as he turned the man's face so that he could kiss him on the mouth. His kiss was familiar and gentle, though it always felt as if there was an underlying hostility writhing beneath the surface.

Tongue sliding between Elijah's lips, he prodded and probed, wanting to get closer, get inside. Even though it was a violation in every sense of the word, Adam felt like it was simply the desire to connect with Elijah and show him that he was, indeed, loved.

After what he and Shay had done the other night, Elijah felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. It was so easy to go through the motions before, but now it was difficult again. But it was worth it, having those moments with Shay. Feeling Adam's hand on him, though, he didn't know if he could handle it after having felt Shay's there.

To make it easier on himself, Elijah lifted both of his hands out of the water and cupped Adam's face to kiss him back. He just wanted to get this over with, the sooner, the better.

"Take me to your bed," he said softly against Adam's lips, figuring they could just fuck and it would be done.

Adam was an observant man. His problem was that he always twisted things in his brain. He assumed that the undercurrent with Elijah was different because he wasn't sleeping right or because there was a new guest in the house. Heeding the boy's request, Adam lifted him clear from the tub and carried him to the bedroom, unmindful of the water he was trailing behind him.

Laying him down in bed, he dried him off a little. "I thought perhaps you could sleep up here with me tonight." That rarely happened and it meant Adam trusted him implicitly.

The moment he was lifted from the water, the air hit his skin and he shivered involuntarily. His arms wound around Adam's shoulders and he pressed his face against the man's neck as he was carried. Swallowing hard, he tried his best to push back the wave of emotion he was feeling. It was so difficult to get Shay out of his head. He settled on the bed and let Adam dry him off some, and at the mention of sleeping upstairs he just nodded his head. He'd rather be downstairs, where he could be somewhat close to Shay, but he knew the consequences if he said no. Adam had a way of offering, but it wasn't an offer at all, and Elijah knew that.

"All right," he said softly. "Thank you."

Instead of getting amorous with Elijah again, Adam got him some pajamas and a blanket. He laid down next to him, always sure to make some sort of noise so that Elijah knew right where he was. Wrapping an arm around him, he tugged Elijah close as one would hug a stuffed animal, securely, needfully. He wanted to ask Elijah to promise that he would never leave him, but deep down, he trusted that such a sentiment went without saying.

Elijah was completely quiet as he listened to the sounds of Adam's movements so that he could determine where the man was. He was surprised for the pajamas, but he was thankful for them, and once he was tugged up neatly to Adam's side he just curled up there and closed his eyes.

"Do you think Parker will write a story for the holidays?" he whispered after a moment.

"I haven't asked him to yet, but I'm sure that he will." Parker had gotten so used to the routine after five years that Adam didn't bother asking anymore. The man was a prolific writer and always produced something good for him without even being instructed to do so. Adam's greatest desire was to get the newer guests to that point of creativity, where things just came out for him, always something new to enjoy and worship. "I think I'd like Shay to take portraits of everyone. What do you think of that?"

"I don't know," Elijah aid as he worried at his bottom lip a little bit. He shrugged his shoulders some and closed his eyes. "I can't really see them. But I'm sure that they'd be nice," he added honestly. He hated that he couldn't see Shay's face, or what he could do. But he didn't need to take Adam's word for it that Shay was lovely, as was his work. Elijah was most certain that both were true.

"Even if you can't see them, the experience of being photographed is still there. Knowing someone is watching through a lens every little movement you make, hearing the shutter each time he catches a moment of you." Adam drug his hand down Elijah's cheek as if he was stroking a cat. He loved to watch the artists work, and he loved to see their interplay when they worked together.

Elijah knew very well that Adam would be watching both he and Shay, and he was terrified that the man would see how they felt about eachother. Adam had a way of seeing only the things he wanted to see to a dangerous degree, but would that work out in their favor? It was hard to say.

"I'll do whatever you want," Elijah finally said, thinking that was the best answer with Adam, always.

"Okay," he said, pleasure in his voice. Elijah clearly trusted him and wanted to please him. That meant so much to him and he kissed the boy's cheek before settling next to him, ready for sleep. He would be sleeping light, trusting--yet not entirely naive. He also trusted that his two dogs outside would alert him if Elijah tried to run, but he really just didn't believe that the boy would try to do that.

More than anything, Elijah wished that he was down in his little cell, curled up with Shay. But for tonight, he'd have to stay next to Adam. He was quiet as he listened to the older man fall asleep, and eventually he gave in to sleep, too.
